Was an usher at a theatre when this was on. The editing is far too choppy but anytime O'Toole was on film the audience was SILENT! Those days are gone, folks. Magnetism has been replaced with CGI.
Ignore the comments that you see below; please watch the movie and enjoy the genius that went into & behind every aspect of it. They do not make them like that anymore !!!
Reading about Ryan's Daughter recently, I learned that Leo McKern was nearly drowned while filming the storm scene. Makes sense that O'Toole based his performance here on David Lean...
One of the most underrated films ever made. Peter O’Toole pretty much steals the whole movie. Shame he never won an Oscar.
Neither him, Richard Burton or Richard Harris. Yet Remi Malek and Nicholas Cage have a freaking Oscar
O’Toole was so good in this role.
I love the line "Look over here, son." It's out of key with O'Toole's scene chewing style, but he makes it work because he's a genius actor.
"Besides... I've fallen madly in love with the dark side of your nature." : D

I worked security for the production
“COME HERE TO ME!”
So great.
RIP, you mad queen!
This has the beginnings of some weird, but welcomed fever cream
Гениальное кино!
In my next life I want to be Eli.

Then the god ... wanted to say O'Toole descended to see his flock dashing about...
me too
Loved O'Toole in this but Hershey & Railsback annoy the schitt out of me. How did they ever get cast in this?
I agree...but Hershey at least is a pleasure to look at.
