superb i ´ve been trying to keep it by ear this afternoon but seems there are two guitar at once doing the leads it ´s a bit difficult to keep, anyway with time i will get it decent for one guitar
vodka PARLAMENT GLachichais malako That's Verlaine, as depicted in the vid. A great solo as well. Lloyd's is always in the background, but it's way more than just another part; it's an "ongoing" solo. While Verlaine's is typically dreamy, Lloyd's has this manic intensity that more guitarists latch onto, which is what I was thinking in my original post. Really, top to bottom, it's an amazing track, utterly unlike anything else going on at the time.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️🌎🌎🦌🐓🍓🤪 I just discovered "Television" a month ago, and cannot stop listening to them. Richard Floyd has just jumped back into my top 3 guitarists, of all time. Verlaine is a unique talent and groundbreaker, but Floyd put them all over the top.
I was living in the Chicago area when I first heard this song on WXRT .......the only radio station playing anything worth listening to at that time. I was blown away 😳
Marquee Moon changed the world when I was 16, how you write songs, play guitar..... would never be the same!! Thanx Pincher..... Thanx Tom, Richie, Billy & Fred eternally greatful!!
never played before guitar riffs and solos..never heard before lyrics..magnetic songs and voice..a natural purple diamond, just one of this kind..not gold, too shiny, too bright..darkness and soul..
Okay, so it is my understanding that there is a lot of uncertainty and speculation around the meaning of this song, but I have a theory. "Mr. Lee" is Bill Lee, the main character of Naked Lunch. The film came out in 1991 and this song was released in 1992. The concept of "calling" Mr. Lee checks out as Bill Lee is an exterminator who would have received calls for jobs. The abstract and surreal nature of the lyrics, as well as the idea of a "trip" follow with Bill Lee's bad drug trip. Further, the iconic hat that Tom is sporting in the video might be a nod to the film poster for Naked Lunch. Wild stuff!
I enjoy this video and song since day one! and it just kicks ass, I love the tone of the guitars and I just love how they just sit down and just fucking make it sound great.
Television is the eponymous third album by American art punk band Television. The album was released in 1992, fourteen years after the band's second studio album and subsequent break up in 1978. A video for "Call Mr. Lee" was filmed and aired on MTV to limited play.
Tom Verlaine has one of the most gorgeous necks in Rock and Roll. - Patti Smith. I recommend reading "From the Velvets to the Voidoids," just for anyone that... likes music.
Great song, great delivery, great guitar work/sound, good video...This song could have been big hit with the right push...Girl looks like she shot up a real good bag!
Finally! My all-time fave as well. Love the bw simplicity and the way the guitar interplay between Verlaine and Lloyd is filmed! Television "Television" was one of the top albums of the 90s but received criminally little attention..maybe it came out at a wrong time when everybody was into acid house and the Strokes were still in school! Great big hand of applause to pincherbarnet for sharing this absolute classic with us!
Television inspired my guitar playing since the very beginning in 1977. Too bad very few people know them. Best guitar players ever! It's very hard to follow what Tom is playing...he doesn't play on blues scales and his chord progression is very jazzy and classical at the same time.
Very creatively filmed video - I especially love the way they stacked the band diagonally linear in the frame so that the guitars and bass necks, and the drummer's toms, are all parallel - so you see them all grooving together, without the usual wide-frame shot / setup.
Props to Czech director/cinematographer Peter Nydrle, a truly exceptional filmmaker, gone too soon. He designed and lensed all the performance sequences, as well as the eerie portraiture of the femme mysterieux. I shot the random Super 8 b-roll. The visual inspiration was classic German Expressionist photography with a taste of Man Ray. Captured in a barren Manhattan rehearsal studio with minimal crew and equipment. The editing style deliberately deploys unusually long, uncut segments to keep the focus on the phenomenal, non-stop instrumental virtuosity. It also creates a creepy rhythmic tension that enhances the song's foreboding vibe. This video is one of my all-time favorites
@heyrubes007 You're so right! If only people started listening to this great album. Where else can anyone find such spiralling guitars, surreal lyrics and tight rhythm section?
I know some people who are not "anti" Television, they're more like... "Oh yeah, they were quite good, haven't listened to they for ages..." QUITE GOOD? Yeah, and Tesla was "a quite good physicist" and Virginia Woolf a "quite a good writer". A lot of my friends, almost everyone, are huge Smiths' fans. I never really got Smiths, plus I hate Morrissey's voice... (Marr's a great guitarist thou)
RIP Tom Verlaine; so original, so pure, so honest, so great.
Richard Lloyd here rips one of the most potent guitar solos in the history of rock music. Wow~!
Absolutely correct.
and he can double it exactly. Just ask him.
It's just unbelievable
superb i ´ve been trying to keep it by ear this afternoon but seems there are two guitar at once doing the leads it ´s a bit difficult to keep, anyway with time i will get it decent for one guitar
Há mais de uma década eu não ouvi essa música .
What a stunning performance by Richard Lloyd. His guitar playing is incredible.
Anyone else feel like they lost a dear friend?? 😢
RIP Tom Verlaine
RIP Tom V.
You are forever brilliant.
True but, Lloyd is the star here
This is probably the best band of New York ever. Intellectual music with punk references and brilliant playing (those guitars man... they rule!)
Definitely the best band from Delaware
Amazing fucking band + Sonic Youth of course
Velvet Underground too
@@donbasti shhh we're not supposed to ever talk about sonic youth - people might notice Nevermind had no new ideas but was just a great record
The fact that Lloyd's solo on this should still be so unheralded by the guitar scene after over two decades is a REAL head scratcher.
Aryno Wyrth I agree, totally!
Aryno Wyrth who plays solo at 2:10? Verlaine or Lloyd?

I listen to this a couple times a month. It’s hauntingly great.
;0 a -bodice-ripper- of a solo!! more so than a thousand dimestore romance-covers...
My guitar heroes. Love Lloyd's playing on this song.

One of the best solos of the instrument
Richard Lloyd is incredible
I loved their comeback record. Bought it when it came out and still listen to it.
I used to see so poorly...but now I've seen the glory...
Into them for over 30 years and they still hit me like a spike in my mainline...
Marquee Moon changed the world when I was 16, how you write songs, play guitar..... would never be the same!! Thanx Pincher.....
Thanx Tom, Richie, Billy & Fred eternally greatful!!
The most innovative melodic band ever in rock!!!
One of my all-time favorite videos...and ya gotta love Television's dual guitar leads...I have goose bumps....
The guitar playing of Verlaine and Lloyd is so satisfying, they really hit the spot for me
Crisp in every respect. Loved this band for 30 years now
Unbelievable guitar playing: brings tears to the eyes.
Great old school band !!!
RIP Tom Verlaine 💔🥀
Everything these guys did was classic. Lloyd and Verlaine made their guitars sing beautifully.
Just exquisite contrast and playing of guitars
smooth...classy...so cool!
There are few/none groups like these nowadays.
never played before guitar riffs and solos..never heard before lyrics..magnetic songs and voice..a natural purple diamond, just one of this kind..not gold, too shiny, too bright..darkness and soul..
Spoken to the Choir !!! Spot on observation.
One of the best bands ever..
I love this song and this band! Awesome! The guitars (Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd) are unique and wonderful.
The guitar work here is spectacular, even in 2020!
I agree 100%!! I saw them live in Oslo 1992, a pivotal moment in my life! :)
Masterful.
'''You could get across with ease...''

Great Bruce Lee tribute

Wow - what a great song!
Absolutely beautiful and brilliant
Thank you for this.
I have no words to describe the talent... what a phrasing, totally suberb.
Wow, that music video is like you're on the road.
Such A Magic Music,Bravo!!
One of the finest examples of how to make a perfect video with virtually no budget.
Simply ...... Great
カッコイイ~!

Richard Lloyd, ladies and gentlemen. A guitar god
this is what i call style
Long time since i heard this song. Nice, thanks.
The best guitar improvisational duet ever without a doubt including Steve Hunter and Dick Wagnor.
It's been speculated that the twin guitars of Gary Duncan and John Cipollina of QMS were a big influence on their sound.
mike patrick I wasn't aware of that...Thanks for the info I was a big QMS fan in late 60's and early 70's
Wonderful band, wonderful video!
R.I.P. Tom.
R.I.P. Tom Verlaine 🔥🤘🔥
Dear Lord Baby Jesus, may Television play this song on May 8, 2019, in Cleveland OH. For all your power and grace, Baby God.
very good.................................
Heard and saw this once at the time it was released. Loved it and thank you for posting!
The guitars.... great!!!
That solo man, outrageous.

Great song, great delivery, great guitar work/sound, good video...This song could have been big hit with the right push...Girl looks like she shot up a real good bag!

Actually, he just goes nuts from 3:06 all the way to the end. I love Richard Lloyd's playing. Not a bad songwriter, too.

I love this song...Very nice!

First time hearing this, really cool!
A MTV me apresentou o Television . Lenda da música que sempre será eterna. Descanse em paz, Tom Verlaine.
