@@abelinolopez1957 That’s kinda funny you mentioned that… 🤔It’s actually not a bad idea! 😄I’ve owned a Mexican Telecaster for over 32years , I paid $200 used in but in 100% mint condition. I set it up super carefully as best I knew how and tweaked it a tiny bit after that and it’s been a pretty much perfect playing guitar for over 3 decades 😮 If I could get a replacement new cheaper ultra features version with the rib and forearm body cuts in pearl white with a black pick guard Mex version. Just a slightly nicer version of what I already have for about $600-$750 bucks depending on Pickups, Locking tuners, Stainless Frets etc. I would probably buy it right away ! The old one I have is just a well built guitar that plays perfectly. It’s nothing fancy but a smooth workhorse of a guitar that sounds good in any amplifier and almost any style of music including crazy shred or even brutal metal styles. I’d actually love a John 5 signature Tele. But it’s probably a bit to expensive for me but if I could just get a Mexican striped down version of the ultra or whatever J5 is running 👍🏻that would be a great guitar and just expensive enough to be quite well made as well. I’ve never owned a Squire but that’s basically what my guitar is before the squire Fenders existed.
Not a metal head (anymore). Had the same opinion on teles. After buying a modded Harley Benton TE-20 (single humbucker, nitro finish, locking tuners, for €80? Why not) a few months ago, I've been constantly looking at them. It's not a matter of "if" but "when" I get a new one 😂
Can confirm this is definitely a true thing with Metalhead guitarists 😄 I started playing at 14 years old on my first guitar that I still own. A Harmony strat knock off that I covered in stickers and pinstripe tape because it looked way too Country 🤠 style for me! 😄) Next guitar was a Mexican Fender Telecaster I bought for $200 from my Tinbasher boss at 21 years old. I still own it more than 30 years later and play it all the time because it sounds great playing almost any style and is super comfortable to play with really low string action. I’ve been playing for 38 years and I now own 11 various electric guitars, 2 acoustics ( a Black BC Rich acoustic/ electric and a Baby Taylor straight acoustic) and a Dean Metalman Bass and a borderline ridiculous amount of amps and pedals. My favourite electric guitar that I own is an Ibanez SZ 720 FM in trans grey, flamed maple that I have owned for about 20 years now. I was fortunate enough to have it autographed by Joe Satriani about 10 years ago. He is the reason I was looking at the Ibanez guitars when I bought it. I played about 25 guitars the day I bought it and A/B ‘d them against each other for a few hours and the Ibanez came out the clear winner 🥇 for overall playability, sound and looks as well for the money I had to spend at the time. ( about $1100) I never dreamed that 15 years later Satch would actually sign it ! 😄 Thanks so very much🙏 I’m eternally grateful Joe! Such a great guy for real, You Rock ! 🎸🤘🏻
I work in a music store so I’ve been able to play a bunch of the new fender stuff. While the ultra II series are really nice, I don’t feel like they’re worth the money. However, they really stepped up the quality on the player II and American Pro series. I am very impressed with the player 2 series. I would also love to take home one of the AmPro Telecaster Deluxe Dark Nights. What a beautiful guitar, and amazing to play. So versatile.
Recently played an American 🇺🇸 Pro Tele in white pearl finish in the local music store it’s an absolutely beautiful guitar to play and looks damn good as well might just have to pick that one up I can’t stop thinking 🤔 about it for the last couple of weeks! 😄
I am impressed with the Ultra II series. There a lot of people giving them shit about the "innovation" element of the marketing campaign. I think a legacy brand like Fender have limitations of what their core audience will accept with big changes to the classic models. Gibson fanboys are a prime example of almost complete rejection of anything that isn't a carbon copy of a 1950s or 60s Gibson spec. The Fender audience is more tolerant of pushing things outside the boundaries of the past (look at what Fender Japan does quite successfully), but there are still limits. I am impressed with specs like the compound radius, the intensified body contours, the Luminlay dots, and the electronics changes. Those certainly go outside the comfort zone of a Fender traditionalist, so I am glad they are doing things for more than the 60 or 70 year-old buyer. I am not expecting that Fender will make a guitar made out of carbon fiber and make it headless with Bare Knuckle pickups, but Fender is doing a good job keeping their traditional guitars forward-looking. EDIT - A note on price...I don't think they are out of line for a Made in USA guitar. They are about the same price in inflation adjusted dollars that they were in 1950s and 1960s. These are a luxury item for the non-professional, and for a pro they are a tool for their job and they want a high-end device.
Every Telecaster owner is a former Telecaster hater, myself included. Thought they were these ugly-looking chicken pickin guitars when I was a teen, but as I grew older, I became a sucker for the blackguard butterscotch blondes. After two years of desiring one, I found a good deal in my locals and made it mine. Telecasters are so cool in how understated they look, and yet they’re truly limited only by your creativity. They’re to electric guitars what the Gibson J-45 is to acoustics: workhorses. Also, if you’re loving Teles now, you’ve reached the next level of guitar dad. 👴
The new fenders are... really cool but No stainless frets???? for 2,200?? I think that's ridiculous. Though I will say, fender has the noiseless pickups down! Thanks for another great video Hunter!
Although I'm still learning to play I love the feel of the neck on a Telecaster. This one is out of my league for my skill level and what I intend to do with my guitar playing. That being said a MIM Telecaster is more in my future.... Love your channel by the way and I am subscribed...
I’ve been playing for about 38 years now and just for kicks I suggest that if at all possible you go to a music store near you and play a Fender Tele Squire , I think if it’s set up really good with some decent new strings on it you will be pleasantly surprised at how good of a guitar it is for that kind of money 💰 or if you can find an approximately 30 year old used Fender Tele Mexican made ( I have owned one for many years that’s about that old now and it’s a damn good guitar for the $200 I paid back then. It was barely used but in 100% perfect 👌🏻 shape when I bought it. Still sounds and plays great I play it almost everyday and it’s never more than 10 feet away from my couch in case I want to try and play something by ear really quick but I usually end up going for a couple of hours because it just plays great. Don’t write off the old used Tacocasters or the cheaper Squire models especially if you are just getting started and really want a real Fender Telecaster ! As you have just seen for yourself in this video a Telecaster is a great sounding guitar for almost Any kind of music not just country! Prime examples are John 5 or Jim Root from Slipknot! Just recently seen John 5 live on his solo “strung out tour“ and he was insanely awesome! Definitely check him out if you get the chance his solo show and albums are amazing! 🤘🏻
I’ve owned a Mexican Fender Telecaster for about 30 years and that very issue with the rib and forearm cuts have been on my Telecaster wish list for all that time ! 😄 I’ve always loved how they sound and play but the Stratocaster has always been way more comfortable to play for long periods for that exact reason. I agree 100% . I played a really sweet pearl white American 🇺🇸 Telecaster in a local music store a few weeks back and I can’t stop thinking about it! 😊 might have to go and buy it I think but after seeing Hunter demo this Beautiful Ultra Tele I’ve got a tough decision to make as I’m really digging that one as well , maybe even more 🤔. Might have to go and demo one for myself and figure that out ! 😄
The s-1 switch wires both pickups in series not parallel. Parallel is already the default wiring on telecasters when both pick-ups are on. Series wiring is what gives both pickups the humbuckers sound.
I always did too when I was younger. Thought they were always a little too “ country 🤠” for my tastes… 🦇 as a 🤘🏻metalhead 🪦… and then I bought one 30+ years ago for $200 a Mexican made Tele and was instantly converted and loved how it sounds and plays. You can play pretty much any style you want and the pickups will cover it in combination with the amp you are running. I play it all the time , great guitar in every respect 👍🏻 the old Mex ones are actually really well made. 😊
That was one of the most wicked demo tracks you've made imo. The guitar looks and sounds amazing, in your hands at least. I am wondering tho who a modern version of a tele is for. I assume the traditionalists will always go for the original look and feel. And if you're looking for modern guitars, well the world is your oyster with the wealth of shapes and specs that is limitless really. Dunno, maybe it will be Fenders biggest hit ever, I just don't see it personally.
Quite cool! And who knows, with a later iteration, maybe Ultra IV or V, we might get even stainless steel Frets, catching up with Harley Benton in 2023😂
Seriously! So stoked to see someone use them for hi gain. Wish they’d sent him an HSS too. Interested in how the new “haymaker” humbucker takes hi gain. The Quadratap in the Amethyst Ultra seems like it should take it well but mine had to be sent back under warranty so I didn’t get to fully test it yet.
Couldn't agree more. Never liked it until I owned it. Now its hard to put it down. It has a special wirey funk sound, and a butter softness for when you want to serenade your woman's clothes off. So yes I absolutely love it.
Seen John 5 live in concert on his solo tour about a month ago and I can fully confirm this fact ! Tele’s can definitely CHUG 🤘🏻, Rock and chicken 🐓 pick , and cut solos like a freakin monster as well. 😊
I have the Telecaster American Ultra 1 in Arctic Pearl and it’s the best guitar I’ve played or owned…..the neck is amazing! The Ultra 2 is missing the binding, but nice upgrades otherwise
Gonna be honest, the ultra II is so mid to me. I don’t think the price justifies it. I’m not a fan of the colors and for the basses, I hate the fact that they are no longer doing block inlays on the jazz bass. I feel like they’ll be worth at a discounted price. The series they seriously improved on is the Professional IIs. I have a Am Pro II jazzmaster and it’s hands down one of the best guitars I have.
These things look awesome, despite being way too pricey for me. Very happy with my Chapman ML3 Pro Traditional with very similar specs as much as people shit on them

In my opinion, the Ultra line is basically catching up to the features of the AZ and AZS prestige line has to offer. They still don't have stainless steel frets or roasted maple necks though. Different takes on a modern stratocaster and telecaster guitar. more competition at the top, good for guitar players.
That's true, not everyone likes Ibanez's AZS shape, though. I also forgot to mention that while I'm 100% team stainless steel, a lot of non-metal players don't like them for how "clangy" and cold they sound. My luthier is a crazy good older generation EVH-style shredder and can't stand stainless steel frets... but he loves luminlays and compound fingerboard radii. That "in-between" void is what this the niche this Fender fills. Meanwhile my shallow butt is like ooOOoOoOo anodized pickguard 😂
@@agufish Fully agree. Last year I was one second away from buying the Ultra Luxe Tele (loved the matching headstock and the augmented D neck), but I absolutely hated the stainless steel frets. Slippery and sound disgusting.
Man these sponsored videos ain't it. Some of the notes on "vintage but also modern" sounds like Fender told you to say this. Praising luminlay dots and locking tuners on 2.5k guitar is a stretch. Brands are wrecking fender for value for money. Fender and gibson are just for people that love rampant consumerism.
How many times has Fender taken "the first production slab electric guitar" the Tele to really cosmetic and electric changes but honestly no real improvements !
You've been doing this for quite a while and pretty impressed with your skills and also your work inventory app. As i'm sure you kept some of the better guitars. I'm just curious as to today versus 510 years ago. How many hours per week are you dedicating to your channel? It definitely is a love affair.

All metal heads eventually have the phase where they suddenly need a Telecaster, me included.
I always thought Telecaster were ugly, now I like them.
Literally me. I have purchased a Squier Tele + Fender Subsonic baritone tele neck. Sounds great with fender noiseless. What a chug machine
Absolutely yes.
And yes, Jim Root and John 5 played a part in this for me.

same, buying squier sonic it just feels like swiss knife to me, it can go metal to full clean at any genre
Biggest missed opportunity in this line up is not having a five string version of the meteora, that thing is begging for those chunky low notes.

The s-1 switch wires both pickups in series not parallel. Parallel is already the default wiring on telecasters when both pick-ups are on.
Series wiring is what gives both pickups the humbuckers sound.
Your fun fact about subscriptions vs non got me. Good content.
When are the Harley Benton signatures coming, Hunter?
Sometime in the next few thousand years…. Hopefully…
Parallel is standard tele. Series wiring is what the S-1 gives you that's more like a wide humbucker.

You should make a super metal high intergrity tele
If he does, I hope he uses a regular Telecaster and replaces the bridge pickup with a single coil-sized humbucker.

I’d like you to compare the ultra II Tele SS with the Charvel Pro Mod So-Cal II HH
gotta love the heart from your hate riff in the isolated demo....

Finally another tele.
This man tried to sneak in Trivium and thought we wouldn't notice

Great video as always! One piece of feedback - you mixed up series and parallel- when both SCs are wired together like a humbucker, they’re in series.
what tuning are you in for the track you made?

I’ll get one just for the forearm carve. I never have liked the way a flat top tele cuts into my forearm after playing for 30 to 45 minutes

Can we please get a left handed Meteora? I’ve only been asking since it came out.
Alas, lefties just get perma-boned when it comes to availability of guitar models and colors...
When do we get a new Gibson double cut review??
I just wish they would bring back the spoke wheel truss rod cover like on the American elites and that are currently on Sterlings and Ernie balls.

Gotta say, the anodized pickguards are a sensory nightmare for me - imagining a pick scraping against the grain of one makes me cringe
Stainless steel frets please❤
Would still rather have a charvel... these are an immense rip off for what they are.
But i suppose when its free it has to be amazing...
I HATE that tele sound
LP for life!
First comment yo
Shut up and play TV he guitar.
Turn off the trash pedals and let’s hear the pickups.
You've been doing this for quite a while and pretty impressed with your skills and also your work inventory app. As i'm sure you kept some of the better guitars. I'm just curious as to today versus 510 years ago. How many hours per week are you dedicating to your channel? It definitely is a love affair.
