Railroading changed for good beginning in 1980 with the liquidation of the Rock Island. You never know what you have until you don't have it any more. Thanks for recording and sharing.

I was lucky enough to see the tail end of Frisco and Rock Island. Both of which ended in 1980 before I began grade school.

Thanks for posting this. I have lived in Carrollton almost my whole life. I was about 3 in the late 70s when we moved here. I remember seeing the Katy in Old Downtown Carrollton, along with the tail end of The Rock Island and Frisco. I miss seeing these and I'm so glad that all of them had a caboose at the end.

This was back before physics changed and 4-axle geeps were powerful enough to pull Class I road freights.

If I had a dollar for every thing I had taken for granted in the 90s that are now gone along the railroad scene I could retire early. Great action!

I always loved the green and yellow scheme. The late 70’s and early 80’s were really interesting times for railroading in the Ft. Worth area.

I miss the Katy. As a kid, I got to see a lot of Katy action around Sherman, Denison, Whitesboro and Tioga.

I remember seeing MKT SD40-2s on the Milwaukee Road circa 1985 both on the road and at the enginehouse in Bensenville, IL. I photographed a couple of their engines in St. Louis shortly before that line was abandoned.

Thanks for posting these videos. The MKT was a great railroad with a lot of friendly employees. You captured some great memories.

What a trip down memory lane. I lived in that area for 15 years. Use to run up & down 377 often. Your pre-cell fone vid was cool beans. Downtown Fort Worth in the distance. Old Roanoke water tower. Can't run that chase now. 377 is 6 lanes with a red light every half mile. No two lane sections anymore. Im guessing thats was made on VHS tape. Thanks for the trip.

I used to see them all the time when I was a kid in Carrollton, Tx. I really miss these green monsters.

I didn’t know the Katy ran through Carrollton. I wish I had been there for that.

@@williamgregory6129 yes sir. They actually owned the trackage that ran right through old downtown Carrollton by the grain elevator.

It's nice to see videos of when living around the Dallas/Fort Worth had some truly interesting railroad action, unlike the incredibly boring trash we see along the rails today. Thanks for sharing this.

Nice pacing shots of an MKT diesel consist. Love the sound! Thanks for sharing precious video of this "fallen flag" railroad. I use to work for the C&NW RR in Iowa and recall the MKT run through power with, I believe, F unit slugs that came up the old Rock Island "spine line" from K.C. to Des Moines.

If I remember right those F units were basically turned into "B" units and they covered up all the windows on the cabs.

The engineer needs to reread rule 14L. Two longs a short and a long, for road crossings.
