Hi Randal - When you get your Note 8 go to settings then tap on Device Maintenance (I am with Verizon) go to Battery and in the center tap MID then tap Save Power button and I checked all the apps shown. You will be amazed on how great this battery is........
just got my s8+ orchid grey today and love it. As my personal experience using since note 2, note 3, note 4, note 5, note 7, I ddn't use S-pen too often. I do love BOKEH that note 8 has, but you can get such thing with your s8/s8+ using Food Mode camera, it does focusing the main object and blurry the background.
k brooks yesterday at work, after 8 hours of minimal usage, texting, UA-cam and web browsing I left work only using 10 percent which is crazy. Then again I keep my bright was 50% too because this is definitely a bright phone. Hope you enjoy yours my friend it truly is an amazing device

sanjay neelam I traded in my note 5 and it's all worth it. Having no sd card slot and not so good of a battery is well worth my investment. Camera and live messaging are awesome. I enjoy this display more than the note 5.

I originally had the S8 Plus mid night black 64gb I used it for 3 months untill I dropped it and cracked the screen. The S8 plus is Definitely a great phone, with the note 8 which I have now everything is the same only difference is the S Pen which I hardly used and the extra camera for more zoom that's if you really take pic that far away. What's the point of having a few more Features on the Note 8 and 1 hour less battery live I'm disappointed for that reason which makes me thinks the S8 is still a better phone. Plus the note 8 feels kinda uncomfortable in my hand after using for a while. I have 14 days to return the note 8 if I don't like it and to be honest I'm thinking to switch back to the S8 Plus. "Reason why" 1 it feels way more comfortable in hands 2 it basically does everything the note 8 does 3 1hrs more battery live that's a big plus 4 i find it more stable in hands to take selfies due to its not an oversize device. Both phones is great but that extra 1hr battery live could be a life saving in Emergency situation.
I know some other devices say up to 128 but can go much higher, it probably can use a larger card but the phone itself may only recognize 128 out of 256 but all 256gbs is still available
Great review as usual. You did miss one major issue however as Doctor 101 below just pointed out. Displaymate rated the S8 and S8 plus displays as quite good but the Note 8 even better for several reasons including the fact that it's 22% brighter which could make quite a difference in outdoor use. For me that's a biggie as I use my phone outdoors more than indoors.
I moved from a note4, which I love to the S8 mainly because I'm little and have small hands and the Notes series is impossible for me to hold for any length of time. Actually got a callous on my pinky from resting the note on it. The S8 is just the right side for me so I won't be note 8ing anytime soon.

Thanks Sakitech you broke it down beautifully. I have been a Note user for years, but since I've retired I don't get much use out of the stylus and some of the S-features as I used to therefore I switched to the Galaxy S 8+ just two days ago. However I've noticed some of the features of the old Note phone I had are no longer there, that I consider really convenient like the texting part of the phone where you could save contacts that you text regularly as favorites right in texting section of the phone. And the option to save contact shortcuts on the pages along with other apps that are used regularly as well...I miss those features because they were very useful and convenient! Unless they're hidden somewhere in the confusing "User Manual".

WOW, what a nice review!! Want to buy one of these two for my wife! She's using the Note 5, I have S7 edge. Both great! I have to be honest...I'm buying like each 2nd year another phone and the same with my wife (always Samsung - starting with the S2 in 2011). Before I do that I used to go and watch tons of reviews and comparsions. This time this is the first one I'm watching and honestly I don't need to watch any others again, because you did such a great job and explained everything step by step + always wrote it down as well !! I've always been a Note purchaser. The S-pen was always the selling point for me. (Along with screen size.) Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances, I can no longer afford to feed my Note addiction. Thank you for the comparison. I'm definitely going to look into the alternative.
Best video I've seen so far that doesn't push the note 8 on you. Very good comparison. I've owned the note 2 and note 4. Then I fucked up and got the iPhone 7 plus. I'm going to go with the S8+ on Black Friday to get the 300$ Walmart gift card. The note 8 also qualifies for the 300$ but after messing with the phones in Best Buy for an hour and seeing all of the videos I can't justify spending another grand on a phone that has features I'll never utilize. It was rare for me to ever use the S pen and my IPOS*** 7 plus has duel cameras already which I don't use outside of taking normal pictures. The note 8 is amazing but if your not playing intense games or using the pen it's pointless IMO

Outstanding video as always Saki. I have the S8 plus and although I love it, I'm switching to the note 8. The primary reason is that my job often requires me to take notes in a hurry. You can do it on the S8, but you always have to unlock the phone and possibly also launch an app first. You could make a habit of always carrying a pencil and notepad, but most of us always have our phones on us anyway. So for me, the ability to quickly take notes is the killer app of the note 8. In addition, I prefer the precision of navigating with a stylus as opposed to a finger.

Great video. I know some people love bigger phones and some like the regular size phones. Look at the regular models for the to be iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8. I know some consumers going to choose the regular 8, but the Plus version of iPhones been very popular. This goes to for the S8 Plus. Since for myself I was using smaller size for years.
Suggestion: When reviewing phones side by side, keep the phones on the same side, (Left or right) throughout the video. You seem to change the Note & the s8+ from left to right and it would be easier to keep up with the video if it was more uniform throughout the video. I just purchased the Galaxy Note 8 and have experienced problems with some "stickiness" in the keyboard on the right side. I took it in and the tech said a lot of people are complaining about this. Do you have comments about this? I am thinking about changing to the S8 + or to the Google Pixel 2 XL because of several reasons this being one of them...
I really want to buy the note 8 but I'm not sure should I buy it now or waiting for its price to drop ? I went from the Note 3 to the S6 Edge+ which I've had for almost 2 years. I did use the s-pen on my Note and I still miss it sometimes. My brother has the S8 and I just don't like the feel and look of it, I do however like the more squared Note 8, but I still don't know which one to get...
same here, currently using a Note4 and used my wife S7 Edge, personally I dislike the taller design and the 18.5:9 aspect ratio making fonts looking skinny, the price is also astounding, I wish they were able to make the Note8 less heavy, I like the Samsung A5 format and price but the camera is not good enough and I would miss the pencil (great for taking notes on the fly)
You have a really good content here, but I still have some questions. I'm switching from iPhone to Samsung, but have no idea whether I should get S8+ or Note 8 or wait for S9. I can afford S8+ now, but I want to know if it's a good decision. I believe I'll use all features in Note 8 and I really like the dual cameras. However, Note 8 is more expensive and if I want this model, I can afford it around Dec-Jan which a few months away from new s-series announcement. Should I wait for S9 to come out? Samsung may put dual cameras into S9 then. I'm really confused here.
I have switched too from apple. And as an apple user i'm used to the buttery smooth ios. And let me tell you the note 8 therefore is the best choice since it has 2 gigs of ram extra wich goes a long way. And the only Samsung who can match the current iphones due there are that darn reliable,fast and familiar to work with. (yeah we are spoiled on that area)
in the market for new Samsung phone, still currently on note5, i think im gonna stay with the note line up. just has that premium look to it and the specs to back it up

I have the S8 plus, but was thinking of getting the Note 8 however, after watching your video, it sort of makes up my mind that, the both phones are identical apart from the s pen and extra ram in the note 8. I love my phones and have to decide on which is better for me to stick to. S8 plus my current phone or buy the note 8 which would be a waste of money considering they both do the same thing except for the s pen and the note 8 having a smaller battery. I don't mind big phone's even though i have small hands, i am used to holding my S8 plus in both hands anyway. My gut feeling tells me to stick with the S8 plus, but my head tells me to get the note 8 which, would be wasting my money. The only difference in height is an inch and width well slightly wider, not by much. What would your advice be?
I had Note 5. When it died I changed to S8+. I am really liking it. Never used the S pen anyway. S8+ is a awesome phone. It was $825 when my husband and I both got ours.
One Statement is that Sakitech said that the S8+ can get up to 128g's of Storage. But That's not true...The Phone Supports up to 256G additional storage. Not 128g.

I'm debating between the s8plus and note 8 too... waiting to get either one on Black Fri, if Note 8 goes below $800 (with gift card deals, I think it's very possible) I will definitely go with Note 8. although I do feel that s8 plus feels better in hand than the Note 8, Note 8 is a little too tall and big for my hand. But I want the extra 2GB RAM, better camera and more screen is a plus.
I pre ordered a note 8 yesterday on my network provider contract renewal ❤ I was having a hard time deciding between the S8+ and the Note 8, but I decided based on my network provider contract being that the difference was about 130 US dollars in my country I went with the Note 8.. I figuered Id rather upgrade while the phone just came out because the S9 in coming out early in January. And because of the slight difference in price and that Id be spending the money anyway Id rather just add the extra 130 bucks for a better phone that would last me til the next Note release which would be about a year from now.. on my contract the Note 8 is 560 US dollars hehe
@sakitech The Note 8's display brightness can go to 1200 nits. The S8+ tops out at 1000 nits. So the Note 8 would win in an outdoor visibility test.

The Samsung galaxy note 8 sd card slot is expendable upto 256gb. Not 128gb.

Why do they always say expansion up 128gb on the SD expansion. It goes up to 256. I use a Samsung 256gb Micro SD card.
havensmayor wife and both too use 256gb micro SD cards in our s8+ phones as well, mine is mostly full
I bet you could use a 1Tb SD card without breaking a sweat on any of these devices

Yup. Because a 5.8 screen on the s8 is "not" bigger than the 5.7 screen on the note 4. Dimensions are very minimal.

If you all ready have the S8, it makes no sense for you to up grade to the Note 8. So stop complaining.

I know some consumers going to choose the regular 8, but the Plus version of iPhones been very popular. This goes to for the S8 Plus. Since for myself I was using smaller size for years.

Suggestion: When reviewing phones side by side, keep the phones on the same side, (Left or right) throughout the video. You seem to change the Note & the s8+ from left to right and it would be easier to keep up with the video if it was more uniform throughout the video. Video would be much better if you can be consistent in presenting the same phone in all frames either on the left or right.
I just purchased the Galaxy Note 8 and have experienced problems with some "stickiness" in the keyboard on the right side. I took it in and the tech said a lot of people are complaining about this. Do you have comments about this? I am thinking about changing to the S8 + or to the Google Pixel 2 XL because of several reasons this being one of them...

go with the note 8. Price drp wont be for months, or at least around christmas or new years. I'm coming from a note 4, and my phone is running out of storage every day too.
Note 3 here too but I'll probably wait till after first of the year to upgrade. I wish it had dual front facing speakers. Then it would be perfect.
you can put an SD card for extra space, personnally I would have to change the battery and the camera is showing it's age

I went from the Note 3 to the S6 Edge+ which I've had for almost 2 years. I did use the s-pen on my Note and I still miss it sometimes. My brother has the S8 and I just don't like the feel and look of it, I do however like the more squared Note 8, but I still don't know which one to get...
same here, currently using a Note4 and used my wife S7 Edge, personally I dislike the taller design and the 18.5:9 aspect ratio making fonts looking skinny, the price is also astounding, I wish they were able to make the Note8 less heavy, I like the Samsung A5 format and price but the camera is not good enough and I would miss the pencil (great for taking notes on the fly)

You have a really good content here, but I still have some questions. I'm switching from iPhone to Samsung, but have no idea whether I should get S8+ or Note 8 or wait for S9. I can afford S8+ now, but I want to know if it's a good decision. I believe I'll use all features in Note 8 and I really like the dual cameras. However, Note 8 is more expensive and if I want this model, I can afford it around Dec-Jan which a few months away from new s-series announcement. Should I wait for S9 to come out? Samsung may put dual cameras into S9 then. I'm really confused here.

I have switched too from apple. And as an apple user i'm used to the buttery smooth ios. And let me tell you the note 8 therefore is the best choice since it has 2 gigs of ram extra wich goes a long way. And the only Samsung who can match the current iphones due there are that darn reliable,fast and familiar to work with. (yeah we are spoiled on that area)

Thank you for a wonderful comparison. I will go for the Note 8. However, before I actually buy the phone, I will try to find a good case (preferably one that closes like a book) for protecting this very expensive investment.
I have the S8 plus, but was thinking of getting the Note 8 however, after watching your video, it sort of makes up my mind that, the both phones are identical apart from the s pen and extra ram in the note 8. I love my phones and have to decide on which is better for me to stick to. S8 plus my current phone or buy the note 8 which would be a waste of money considering they both do the same thing except for the s pen and the note 8 having a smaller battery. I don't mind big phone's even though i have small hands, i am used to holding my S8 plus in both hands anyway. My gut feeling tells me to stick with the S8 plus, but my head tells me to get the note 8 which, would be wasting my money. The only difference in height is an inch and width well slightly wider, not by much. What would your advice be?

I had Note 5. When it died I changed to S8+. I am really liking it. Never used the S pen anyway. S8+ is a awesome phone. It was $825 when my husband and I both got ours.
Also found out S8+ is not water resistant. Already had to pay the $200 deductible because mine fell into 1/4 inch of water and would not change again.

One Statement is that Sakitech said that the S8+ can get up to 128g's of Storage. But That's not true...The Phone Supports up to 256G additional storage. Not 128g.

Had the s8 plus, but destroyed it :/ now I have the note 8 so far so good but I keep watching this videos and it's making me want to take it back and go back to my s8 plus but it would almost feel like I'm upgrading to the same phone Lol. I just hope battery issues don't happend with this one the pen is cool and all but I don't think I'm going to use it a whole lot but so far the phone is pretty good. Now you said the battery on the n8 last longer I really really hope you're right because I'm on my phone watching vids allll the time.

I'm debating between the s8plus and note 8 too... waiting to get either one on Black Fri, if Note 8 goes below $800 (with gift card deals, I think it's very possible) I will definitely go with Note 8. although I do feel that s8 plus feels better in hand than the Note 8, Note 8 is a little too tall and big for my hand. But I want the extra 2GB RAM, better camera and more screen is a plus.

I was having a hard time deciding between the S8+ and the Note 8, but I decided based on my network provider contract being that the difference was about 130 US dollars in my country I went with the Note 8.. I figuered Id rather upgrade while the phone just came out because the S9 in coming out early in January. And because of the slight difference in price and that Id be spending the money anyway Id rather just add the extra 130 bucks for a better phone that would last me til the next Note release which would be about a year from now.. on my contract the Note 8 is 560 US dollars hehe
