Coombs and indirect coombs are not properly defined in this video!! A direct coombs test detects antibodies that attach to the red blood cells in vivo (or within the patient's body), and indirect coombs detects antibodies that are attached to the red blood cells outside of the body or in vitro. When testing to see if the mom's antibodies are attacking the babies cells this is done doing a direct coombs test. To detect if the mom has antibodies in her plasma this is done using an indirect coombs test. These are the two basic tests in the blood bank and can test for all antibodies not just anti-D.
She states that the test depends on where the blood is collected from and this is 100% incorrect. A DAT or Direct Coombs test is run on either cord blood or babies blood (it can also be run on adult blood). The Direct coombs in prenatal testing is looking to see if moms antibodies are attached to babies red blood cells. This test is used in the blood bank to test for other things as well, not just on moms and babies.

I have B- blood. RH negative factor. They make a huuge deal about getting Rogam every single pregnancy. It makes me tired and achy but it's worth it

I’m confused. My medsurg book right here states ‘if the woman has a positive indirect coomb’s test, RhoGAM is administered at 28 weeks of gestation’?? Then cord blood is tested and if baby is Rh+ the mom will receive another shot within 72 hours of delivery. ??

A few things I might clarify further, but an EXCELLENT presentation of an often misunderstood issue. I'm a blood banker. We dedicatedly check charts and pharmacy records to make certain Moms get RHIG when required. But admittedly, some of us are frustrated when nurses and doctors are not doing what needs to be done, and are depending on underpaid, frayed peons in the lab give them a worried call. Would love to see a presentation from you on WHY Rhogam or its generic equivalents are crucial to Mom's next child. PS Could you please tell your colleagues we cannot simply hand out blood product to a 600 gram neonate without orders and PROPER identifiers? Blood products are much more dangerous and controlled than any opioid you can name: try waltzing into the pharmacy and asking for a slog of Oxy without patient identifiers! If a caregiver is unsure of hospital protocol, stand strong and DEMAND the training.
If the mom as antibodies against RH+ shouldn’t she take Rhogram to stop her from attacking the fetus if it’s rh positive

Hi there what the risk of getting pregnant again being over 40 years old haven't the Rh-negative factor baby being positive after birth, I had the two RhoGAM shot. last year I had spontaneous abortion. What the risk of the future pregnant 😳 🤔 what are the procedures or steps to be taken???

What happens if you don't give RhoGAM to the mother?
Teevee nothing bad with the first born if the mother never had a miscarriage or amnio prior to delivery. If baby born is Rh negative no shot is necessary even after delivery. There is mercury in that shot and children of Rh negative mothers who took the shot suffer from autism and neurological damage at a much higher rate than children of Rh negative moms who never took the shot or Rh positive moms who of course did not take the shot. Check cord blood after birth of first child w every Rh negative mother as the father could well have carried the Rh negative trait and the baby if Rh negative has same Rh factor type (negative) as mother and therefore the mother would not need the shot, as she would not have developed the antibodies against the D antigen because it would never have existed. Only if the mother had developed antibodies for the D antigen would the mother need a shot during pregnancy. A good doctor would test for the antibodies in the mother to determine that. And they should keep the mercury and other inflammatory additives out of all vaccines. What they are doing is damaging the fetus be it an Rh negative or an Rh negative carrier.
I didn't get Rogam on my first pregnancy...she didn't make it @38wks. Had prior miscarriages and did not know I was negative

After having a baby, I was not given anti-d injection, because of which my child had an abortion, then I was not given anti d injection. After conceiving the baby again, I was given anti d injection at 28week 38week is the baby and dies. After 24hr of having a baby, I was given anti-d injections. This time when I take the baby, there will be no harm. Can I have a healthy baby?

Rhogam gave me 2 beautiful baby girls after loosing one and multiple miscarriages b4 figuring it out
My doctor was intelligent enough not to give me an Rh mother pregnant w her first child one of these shots until after the baby was born. If the baby is Rh negative the mother would not take the injection. Thank God my doctor knew this. So my Rh negative daughter and I were never injected with mercury and she did not suffer autism or any other neurological disorder as so many children of Rh negative mothers, who took the injection do. For first time mothers, who have never miscarried, never take the shot until after the cord blood is tested and a confirmed Rh positive child is born.

lcsoccer wrong. My doctor knew what he was doing.. kid vaccinated, yes. And think think please..and let me guess , based on your prejudiced reply, “you must be Rh +,” if so I hope your protect your immunity... because studies show that the RH factor positive’s immune system is weak in comparison to the Rh negative’s. Some very good and interesting medical journal comparative studies in the literature review with equal sampling of the blood types including Rh factor, shows that. Also if you understood the Rh negative blood types well enough you would also understand that a dose or two or three of mercury would detriment the brain of the baby possibly worse than an Rh positive, but no matter the type if the injection is not warranted just avoid it. That’s what my doctor decided. So I gave birth to a very healthy A - baby girl. And a non complicated pregnancy and delivery.
lcsoccer however that is not to say I shouldn’t have been tested for the antibodies for the D antigen. Knowing what I know now I would have asked for that... but I followed his advise. Possibly my mother could have given me the antibodies at my birth has she rejected and Rh + baby. She had Rh negative children though. My spouse was Rh+ but the only man I ever been with and this was our first child and my doctor knew all of this. He made the right choice based on the information at hand.
Why do you have to get Rhogam right away after the birth of the baby if mom is neg baby positive and first child? Won't that affect the breast milk?
