You can possibly win a grand slam, Masters, ATP Cup, Olympics or whatever, but defeating all three Nadal, Novak, and Federer in a single tournament is something unseen, that what has managed only one man, a great Argentinian Nalbandian!
What's crazy is that after Nalbandian, another great Argentinian player, Del Potro, would become the first man to beat both Nadal and Federer in the same tournament. Hopefully Argentina can produce another giant slayer to fill their shoes
@Ryo Shusuke is Gay Excellent point. You are spot on. He was actually the 4th player to do so after Becker, nalbandian and Djokovic. I completely forgot
Antonis Koutroumanis & FEDERER LOST!!!! HE IS NOT GOOD AGAINST EQUALS!!! HE BETTER THANK NALBANDIAN & SAFIN FOR NOT BEING AS SERIOUS AS RAFA & NOVAK OR ELSE FED WOULDNT EVEN HAVE 10 SLAMS!!!
Saludos
Great highlights for once from ATP! And didn’t give away the outcome! Nalbandian was a thorn in Federer’s side for some time. Too bad he never won a slam.
Awesome match! If Fed had won this, he would have had the greatest single season win/loss ratio. But I’m not that disappointed. Nalbandian was a great player who was able to stick up there with Federer when he wanted to. Kinda like Safin.
This ranks in my top 2 matches of all time, along with Nadal v Verdasco in the 2009 Aus Open. Nalbandian, absolutely magnificent. So cruel that he couldn't win the Slam he so richly deserved
He is the only one that could compete with Federer in terms of talent since Federer got on the court, not Nadal or Joker. Unfortunately it was wasted. The other two with a bit of less but close talent are Safin and Kyrgios.
I can see that you have put Nalbandian, Safin and Kyrgios together. Great shot makers, but mental midgets vis-a-vis Novak and Nadal. There is absolutely no comparison.
*Prime Nalbandian was a real monster, a perfect tennis player and a mix of Djokovic and Murray.* Nalbandian played against Federer 19 times, with Federer edging out the rivalry 11-8.
A shame Nalbandian didn't took tennis very serious. He only cared about racing, womens and asados. Who can blame him. Argentina wouldn't have another player so exquisite and talented like him.
If If, you never know, maybe he would get tired of tennis if taking it at its highest. You never know. For example, he wins this tournament cause they called him one week before, he was relaxed and played without pressure.
If Fed had won this match he would have been 82 and 3 for the year, just one win away from Mcenroe's record of 83 and 3 from 1984. Mac still has that record to this day
The amount of drama in this match is surreal 2 set tie-break Nalbandian coming back from 2 sets to love to take it to 5th Nalbandian destroying Roger- winning 16 games out of 19 from the 3rd set to 4-0 in the fifth Roger comeback from the dead to serve for the match Nalbandian breaking back to force a tie-break and winning it Not sure if any other match ever had the twists and turns like this one. Had it been Rafa or Novak this would have been the greatest match of all time!
Nalbandian is a player that offen gets sidelined by todays brainless fans but what he did in this match is next to Divine Intervention, to be able to get a win on this Federer who at this point is Greatest Player Of All Time, man only lost 4 matches that year and won 81
Not to take away from Nalbandian's performance, but people maybe forgot that Federer was still nursing an ankle injury that forced him to withdraw from most of the indoor tournaments prior to the year-end finals. Imagine how much better his mentality would have been had he not been thinking about playing with an ankle brace or re-aggravating a preexisting injury.

I don't know if they were No 1,2,3 at the time Becker defeated No 1,2,3 in a row at the Stockholm indoors (Sampras, stich, ivanisevic)
@Ryo Shusuke is Gay Excellent point. You are spot on. He was actually the 4th player to do so after Becker, nalbandian and Djokovic. I completely forgot
Djokovic done ist before at Montreal 2007 Byte beating roddick nasal and Roger think before write
this is not tennis, this is art
Nalbandian’s backhand was absolutely amazing.
Top 3 ever along with Djokovic and Agassi
Huu Hai Nguyen You couldn’t be further from the truth...
This is tennis from another dimension. Absolutely jaw dropping clean ball striking. So fluid, strategic and precise. Unreal
Faster courts, continuous shotmaking, 5-setters, I really miss this...

David Nalbandian, best double backhand player ever.
Agreed! 100%
This match deserves long extended highlights, not just 6 mins
They already have one lol
@nikolaip5834 now they do...
Great highlights for once from ATP! And didn’t give away the outcome! Nalbandian was a thorn in Federer’s side for some time. Too bad he never won a slam.
What a match..
Nalbandian had a backhand from heaven..
The best player by far without a single slam..
They need to bring back best of 5 for the YEC final. Not everything outside of the GS needs to be best of 3.
Yes Agreed!
No..
Best 8 tournament is not important anymore..
Awesome match! If Fed had won this, he would have had the greatest single season win/loss ratio. But I’m not that disappointed. Nalbandian was a great player who was able to stick up there with Federer when he wanted to. Kinda like Safin.
BTW I’m pretty sure this tournament was played on carpet courts. Would really like for the ATP to bring some of those back!
Nalbandian was the most talented player I ever saw.

From the time when I used to read names of Agassi , Safin , nalbandiyan , daveydenko etc. as a kid to zverev, thiem, tsitsipas khachanov now . Wow!
Nalbandian was such a bad ass.
I miss these type of players so much
Then you must love kyrgios and bublik lol.
I always imagine that Nalbandian is what Federer would look like if Federer had played with a two-handed backhand
Just passing through on my journey to watch every Federer match.

I remember watching this live. What an incredible match ❤❤
damn.. forgot how good nalbandian was. shame he never won any slam..
He los the final against Hewitt
This was such a higher quality of tennis than anything we got at this year's ATP finals
Now that Torino Master is indoors, I can't imagine someone better than nalby playing there at his prime, such a player 🇦🇷🎾
The match that I fell in love with the game.
Genio, el gran rey David. A puro huevos.
best two handed abckhand ever... no dude about it
El mejor momento de el Argentino.
Tremendo revez
Un maestro.. David...
Roger's Forehand has changed so much!!!
Frederic Dalle forehand was destructive in 2005 , probably the best shot in tennis history
Ertugrul Körpinar Yes, before it was a "flat" shot with so much speed and accuracy, now he gives more spin, but it's still awesome to watch!
Frederic Dalle
FEDERERS FOREHAND WAS ONLY GOOD AGAINST LESSER WEAKER OPPONENTS!!! FEDERER HAS NEVER BEEN GREAT AT ANYTHING BUT CHEATING!

What an underachiever
Nalbandian was like Agassi on steroids. Mind boggling he never won Slams. Greatest talent I’ve ever seen.
Greatest backhand in my book, because he could hold it to the last minute and just flick it or he could also pound it!
This was a real tennis
This is tennis porn! Two of the greatest shotmakers in history.
The amount of drama in this match is surreal
2 set tie-break
Nalbandian coming back from 2 sets to love to take it to 5th
Nalbandian destroying Roger- winning 16 games out of 19 from the 3rd set to 4-0 in the fifth
