One of my favorite things about these amps is the distorting phase inverter / power amp saturation at easy-on-the-ears levels. Literally cranked amp characteristics at friendly volumes.
100% super unique feature of this, as a studio engineer its great to do that if you want more "compression" on the sound with out the artifacts of a compressor, great amp.
Oh hell no, power is supposed to be on 10 as default (like how any other amp would have max power) and drive is just the master volume type circuit as i understand it so max it just kinda like "bypass" kind of like if you added a master volume to a non master volume amp. Some of the classic amps work really good with the master volume full or just down a touch, more modern amps less so, and have lots of noise like you said.
Might be the les paul, or a 30 watt amp. or most likely when the pwoer knob is turned down it gets pretty flubby and grungy. Might not be the amp for you!
@@acrylicrecording Love Les Pauls, and wattage doesn't mean much unless you have to totally crank it to drive the tubes... I just prefer a creamier overdrive or tighter low end. But yeah, likely not the amp for me.
@@guitarandmore69 I totally disagree, wattage plays a HUGEEEE part in the amp's tone even at lower volumes. The higher the wattage usually the tighter the low end it has. This amp is actually a perfect example of that, With the power knob as it's turned down (counterclockwise) you'll notice the bass and headroom start to die even though the perceived volume doesn't change that much. Another great example is most Marshalls. 100w vs 50w aren't that different in terms of their volume but the feel and tone of each are very different. Low-end accuracy is the first thing to go on lower-watt amps, bass frequencies need the most power to reproduce accurately which is why low-wattage bass amps generally suck but low-wattage guitar amps work out well for most. But yeah doesn't sound like the amp for you, I'd recommend not getting anything lower than 50 watts.
@@acrylicrecording i don't know. I own a couple 15w tube amps and even a 5w and they all sound much better to me. I played a Fender Bassbreaker 7w and it sounded amazing to me.
@@guitarandmore69 True, might be just hearing things differently then. You're probably hearing more about the amp design and circuit than the wattage. I'm mostly talking about volumes that would overcome a loud drummer. Curious if you'd dig the Suhr Corso since its a small wattage amp.
Such an underrated amp. A few month ago I grabbed the amp and matching cab for 1k. Crazy value, runs great.

Don't you get a Hissing sound out of the speaker when Power and Drive on 10?
