Still one of the greatest SHMUPs of all time. Even if Blackbird is disproportionately difficult compared to the bosses after it and the TLB is disappointing imo.
I remember... I once got REALLY into Raiden 2. Like, I played it all the time. I couldn't really get super far with each life/credit, but I kept pushing. I remember the last time I played the game, I had reached the boss of Level 4. Damn... can't believe I was about halfway. No way I'm ever gonna get close to good enough to play the secret boss. Never gonna happen.

@@Mike14264 not sure if I used the word correctly but basically the bosses in Raiden II seem to perfectly correlate to the bosses in the original game, the first boss is 2 giant tanks (one on a rail and one with legs) but both virtually have the same attack, the second boss are both battleships on water, both games have a boss in the vein of a temple-aesthetic, they both have bosses which travel in a huge rocket before setting off, both games have a massive tank with a large middle nozzle, and most importantly stage 5 returns
Clearly the dev team's inspiration peaked with Blackbird. Everything after it is easier and far less awesome. Also that is the lamest true last boss in shmup history. Yet still, this game is amazing.
Playing raiden on max difficulty, feels like the game its in slowmotion and bullets are at 2.0x speed. Also I love the 5th boss fight, it is so insane and cool lookink ship launch into space, makes all the others bosses feel boring.
Ngl if i were to be that pilot, destroying those bosses would get boring as f#ck knowing i could dodge all those bullets and i have nothing else to do than hover, dodge, and shoot. 🤣

I love & prefer pixel-style, pre-modern 3D Raiden games because of the details they have on the background and the environmental damages.

Blackbird, is both pretty, dynamic and way more visually appealing imo, makes the rest of the bosses feel pretty dull, static, giant behemots.
