I dont have a problem with SWT, but this episode being the last one is fitting. Mauler and Ryan watched the prequels in preparation for a conversation that lasted 7 minutes until Mauler stopped talking. Then SWT did superchats lol
This show as an idea was better then what it ended up being. Doing this every once and awhile is the right decision
id expect from a PT dickrider to atleast have something to contribute to that discussion but as usual he just gives short answers and doesnt engage at all. why is he like this? over the episodes both ryan and mauler brought up interesting talking points only for those to be cut short once theory got to talk. its sad because otherwise this combination was solid and fun

I got that feeling a little as well. Felt a little like SWT was still a bit too worried about what people think and say about him. And that must absolutely suck, its a shitty way to have to live your life constantly being shit talked by people who dont matter one bit and have no idea what you really think. I guess Mauler and Ryan found the best way to deal with it (basically just don't) and SWT just needs some more time to figure that out.
I feel like he'd have a much better time streaming if he learned not to listen to them. People will say everything about you when youre in the public eye, that doesn't make any of it true. Best thing to do is nothing. They dont deserve a minute of your time.

Wow. I can see why mauler feels overwhelmed. ... he spent 6 plus hours rewatching the prequels just for a 30 minute chit chat on the subject.
On the final episode theory couldnt even be bother.

while i like these grift episodes. theory is kinda the weak link. he fires through the super chats and doesnt even take a second to consider what is being said in the super chats, even blasting straight past actual questions.

I’ve been watching SWT on and off for the better part of a decade. I like him as a person, but his part in these streams disappointed me for more reasons than I care to explain.
I’ve known of Ryan for a little while, but knew nothing about him. This podcast made me really like him. His knowledge on Star Wars is *celestial,* he’s got awesome humour, and has a great ability to converse and entertain.
I loved what I saw as the hidden premise of Star Grift - slowly converting SWT to the position we’re all at while having MauLer’s exposure to Star Wars broaden. I don’t know what SWT wanted from the show, but he didn’t seem to want/wasn't able to engage with much.
A show with MauLer and Ryan (+ maybe someone else) as permanent hosts, cycling guests with an interest in deeper Star Wars discussions, would’ve been fantastic.
Guests like Nerdonymous, Rick Worley, Arken The Amerikan, Beghast, Sheev Talks, The Bread Circus, etc. come to mind for lesser known channels with great potential.
It’s a bit of a shame.
Yeah. MauLer and Ryan fully represent the normie main-film lover and the in-depth old Fandom book-collector respectively; between the two of them you get both kinds of Star Wars fan, engaging in a friendly conversation where one learns some of what-could-have-been in the little-known context, while the other is reminded how these work on the basic fundamentals as accessible film stories anyone can walk into.
Theory is literally only here to collect superchats, that's it. He doesn't engage with any of the questions, barely had interest in Star Wars itself; when challenged on the very nature of the galaxy or The Force or the storytelling, all he has is a name-drop and some buzzword he heard somewhere; when pressed to give an opinion of his own, he simply doesn't care. Just sit and hock your wares. It's so cringe and sad.
But I'm glad they did this. I'm glad MauLer built some bridges and got some 101 time with Ryan; they're an excellent pairing I trust will find excuses to get together down the line.
Is nerdonymous still around? I thought he made those three videos and disappeared
@@mattchooblink Yeah, as far as I can tell, he has. MauLer mentioned at some point in one of these episodes that he tried (and failed) to contact Nerdonymous too.
He also hasn't spoken to Rick Worley in 4 years which was a bit sad to hear. I value Rick very highly ( 2:15:04 ).
So I suppose it's more of a fantasy list from me hahah.

I'm glad Mauler's done with this charity project. This theory guy is very disrespectful, doesn't even do basic prep for something he claims he loves and just sits there yawning, enjoying crap disney star wars and reading super chats. They tried to pull him out of it, guess that anchor was too hard to lift. Now the longman can use whatever time he was pouring into this unsuccesful venture on something more interesting.
I really wish MauLer would call him out for his laziness but I can understand why he wouldn't to avoid drama. I really hope he called him out in private though.
Now the Longman can take his extra three hours of time and add them back to EFAPs so they'll stop being ILLEGALLY SHORT. Say no to illegally short EFAPS!

The fact mauler and ryan literally squeezed in watching the prequels and theory didnt bother was quite annoying really. He knows the reason this is ending is because they dont have time to do it. Bit of a fuck you moment there. Shame really as this has been quite an enjoyable watch.
Honestly I kinda respected TSW to talk with Mauler and doing this but holy fuck it got sadder with each episode that aired ^^ He puts in no effort, doesnt want to talk about anything because he likely fears that he gets exposed for knowing nothing about Star Wars as he seems to not retain any knowledge he read on all he knows about is likely the prequels movies and that was it.
Theory was the worst part of this. To be honest I'm glad it's over.
And of course Theory spends the series finale just reading superchats and refusing to engage in the conversation. A true Star Grifter to the end.

Anyways, it was fun having a chance to watch Ryan and the Longman nerd out about Star Wars once in a while

I think Theory generally means well but he is so media illiterate it's painful.
Could be that or Theory is just really done with Star Wars at this point. I think I remember him being way more passionate years ago, but years of Disney SW broke him.

This show was doomed from the start. Mauler and Ryan actually talk, Theory just sits and makes ocasional noises. 30 minutes talk, usually from Mauler and Ryan, and then superchats.
Personally I lost respect for Theory some time ago. Guy seems to have no opinion of his own, he just clings to opinions of the majority, what is more convenient.
He was praising Ashoka show, even the last episode, until day later he said the show wasn't good, because it was easier to have the same opinion as most do. Feels like he is scared to say something is good or bad, when he is in oposition, because he doesn't want to have to justify the opinion he holds.
Also Ryan, Light of the Jedi is by Charles Soule. Cavan Scott did the comic. But I agree, the book is dry, I wouldn't say it's bad, but they jump between characters and you don't have attachment to any of them.
I don’t want this show to come back if Theory is still going to be the main host. Let Ryan or Mauler do it and it might be an actual show.

Yeah i do have an issue with the EFAP crew that they dont read out the name of the superchatters. I dont even Superchat on their show anymore because I can never find where they read it.

Heres my take on this:
- Theory isnt making as much money as he used to so decided he needed to do a SW podcast with youtubers who have a large audience so he can make more money
- theory put mauler on the spot, live, to do a 1 hour podcast, mauler reluctantly agreed and then theory suckered him into doing the pod for 3 hours so he can make more money that way
- theory doesnt actually care to debate star wars which is why he always seems bored and his responses are short, but he wants money so a majority of the time is spent on superchats
- mauler and ryan caught on to this early but stayed because its good exposure for their channels
- theory then continued to put in the bare minimum amount of effort, pretended to not know anything about other topics to keep the convo on star wars because he stupidly thinks his audience doesnt like non star wars talk
- mauler and ryan realized theyre basically putting forth all the effort for this pod just to make theory more money and decided its not worth it anymore but agreed to do a few pods a year as to not burn this bridge
- Theory makes awkward comments about youtubers "using him for exposure" when its pretty clear hes using them for money
- Theory thinks he is the supreme authority on star wars and the perfect example of this is him thinking he doesnt need to rewatch the prequels for the discussion (which he had nothing of value to add because he was just biding his time to do superchats)
Conclusion : Theory rightfully has no passion for star wars anymore, so hes just going through the motions to keep his channel alive to make money
I mostly agree but if Theory wants to make money why does he make the fan movie? It costs him a lot and he can't make money off it
@@V01D72 I mean technically it does earn him money because it will give him some money back due to the fan films exposure and that it will draw people towards the creators other stuff and merch. Still, I don't think all of these points are true but some of them probably is at least..
Couple problems with this. The Superchats are funding his Vader Fan Film which costs a million per episode according to him. That's also why he's selling out with those lightsabers. The idea to make a fan film is definitely from passion since he can't make money off it which he had to have known beforehand. The streams largely fund the budget rather than his own spending. Second, if he cared about money, he wouldn't have agreed to any revenue splits with his hosts but he agreed to do it midway through. Any new exposure from Mauler or Ryan's channels don't necessarily generate too much more money realistically speaking. Just look at the difference in sub counts to his own channel. He probably lost more money forgoing a 66% cut than he did from getting an overall larger pie. If he wanted to maximize money and he needed a cohost to minimize his own effort, he really should have stuck with just one partner so his share of the revenue is not reduced but he wanted Ryan anyway. There was also miscommunication with the prequel rewatch. Mauler didn't even know if either of the two watched it like he did and that's why he asked them in the first place. That must've meant no one clarified throughout the week if they were actually sticking with the plan to debate which they usually don't follow their own plans anyway. The only criticism that is reasonable to me is his minimum effort but to be fair, he either starts reading superchats early or it'll go past 4 hours like what had happened in the past and he promised Mauler to limit the streamtime. It was supposed to be just two hours but it always goes on and on because of it. Again, he needs to accept as much superchats for the funding of his fan film. All of the criticisms seem to have reasonable explanations but he should definitely put in more effort in regards to reading and answering and being more involved in discussions.
@@V01D72 I could be wrong for sure but theory has talked a lot about wanting to make movies professionally and work for lucasfilm so I feel like the fan films are his attempt at getting drafted. He also just went on a mini rant in this pod about how "he's never making another live action fan film again because he got nothing from it"
@@Sizzox Okay yeah that makes sense and I do recall a few instances of him forgoing money or offering more money to mauler and ryan so maybe money isn't the main issue but he still came off like money was his main goal for the pod rather than creating good entertainment. Also seems like there was something that silently rubbed Ryan and mauler the wrong way to both quit at the same time.
Ryan needs to do a series discussing the EU books. No offence to MauLer and Theory, ok a little offence to Theory, but just hearing little snippets from him in between superchats about the EU has been the best part of this show.

There were so many opportunities in this episode for intereting discussion and for theory and ryan to show mauler good star wars stuff (pong krell, the maul stuff, the old republic) and theory just refused to try at all

I honestly think the time has come for me to unsubscribe from Theory. Joined him in 2017 because with the spectacular failure of Disney star wars, he was one I found to give interesting videos on the lore that I, as an slightly above average star wars, found interesting. But now hes become an insufferable prick with bigger ego who keeps showing more and more that he is neither the most knowledgable, nor a good conversationist. His videos have become boring and his articullation skills are shite. It actually hurts listening to him talk with others now, as shown in the grift series. Ye....I think I'm done.

RLMs issue is that lightsabers are for humanoids and they a forced onto species that are not physically appropriate to wield them.
The Yoda issue is that Yoda and Palpy as depicred in the OT, should be beyond the need for lightsaber usage.

The true grift
Before this show, I thought SWT was just a fence-sitter who was in denial, but after seeing these episodes, I now actively dislike him. He says nothing, adds nothing, and knows nothing. Despite him knowing nothing about anything other than Star Wars (Seriously. Every time Mauler or Ryan bring up something unrelated to Star Wars, he just says "What is that I never heard of that.") he doesn't even have good insight or opinions on Star Wars. He thinks Darth Vader is an idiot, who would sacrifice God knows how much Empire men and resources, because he is jealous of a piece of technology. He thinks that Force Users can destroy Star Destroyers, even though the most we see from the movies is Yoda spinning and throwing one car sized senate pod back at Sidious, and lifting an X Wing when not in active combat. He thinks that the Jedi are as evil as the Sith, because they "play politics"(What do Filoni fans even mean when they say that?) and whatever other vague, brainrot horse shit Dave Filoni has put in his head. Ryan is more knowledgeable on Star Wars lore than SWT, and Mauler pays more attention to the Movies than SWT, so that makes him absolutely useless. The worst part is that he doesn't even try to make an intelligent argument, whenever Mauler or Ryan push back on his stupid statements or point how how Dave Filoni/Jon Favarou are worthless hacks who make terrible content. I don't know if he is stupid, or if he is a shill that knows that he has no arguments, so he doesn't even bother arguing. Neither answer is good. I am actually glad that this show is done. I just want to see Mauler and Ryan interact on EFAP or Drinkers show. The only way I want to see Theory again is if they or Rags actually stop playing nice with him. Otherwise, just leave this fool in the past.

This echoes my own thoughts. I wasn't excited to see them together, but thought it was an interesting development that could create an interesting dynamic with interesting conversation. It wasn't. Bringing Ryan in was a master move on Mauler's part. The two of them keep things going while SWT, the host of the show, mostly existed as a hindrance to any discussion and to the format, itself. My opinion of him going in was mostly informed, but slightly on the positive side of neutral, based on a few interactions I'd seen him have. My opinion now is pretty well cemented in the negative. Not that he's an awful person, like so many that EFAP covers. He's just pointless and has a negative affect on the fanbase, if anything, because of the large amounts of stupidity that he spouts. Basically, he is as a person very much similar to what current Star Wars is as a franchise.

Theory always felt like at best 'side character' in his own podcast, and at worst the obnoxious comic-relief insert.
I like the talks about the extended-universe stuff but its always counterbalanced with loads of awful "Its a kids show about space wizards it doesn't have to make sense"-caliber takes.

Ryan, and Mauler are great, but I couldn't stand Theory. There's just something inherently fake, and oleaginous about the way he talks and presents himself. I'm not a fan. Is he worse than Rags? Well I probably wouldn't go that far.
Theory just can’t talk about Star Wars in any analytical way because probably 10-20 years ago when his and everyone’s love of Star Wars was burgeoning he decided that he was Anakin Skywalker, I think his unconditional love for Star Wars is actually his psychosis protecting his own perceived identity which is in his subconscious, I don’t think he legitimately believes himself to be Anakin come to life but essentially a real world equivalent. So he can’t insult or criticize Star Wars because he sees it as insulting and criticizing himself.
I'm not counting it out, but I wouldn't be surprised if Star Grift never came back for specials because of "scheduling conflicts."
I'll admit, I'm more curious about what desperate maneuver Theory had to try and get you and Ryan to remain committed to a weekly format. Did he try spinning? That's a good trick, I hear!

@@dragonpaulz_ If you are interested, you should check out the old "Star Wars: Republic" comics from Dark Horse. They were part of the EU and were canon before being retconned by TCW, but their telling of the Clone Wars was FAR superior to TCW in every way.

As someone who’s watched Mauler since he’s last Jedi rage video and Theory since his old what if videos it’s been a wonderful experience watching both of you get together and talk about Star Wars. It’s always fun to see to different ideas clash when it comes to Star Ware. A shame it’s over for the time being but I really enjoyed what we got. Also adding Ryan was a great idea. Now mauler get back to the editing dungeon with Fringy and Wolf

I agree with Ryan. While I love the Death Troopers novel immensely, it was a bad move involving two characters you knew were going to live no matter what.
Were I not so apathetic towards the franchise nowadays I'd almost take a crack at writing a similar story without that issue. I did love how Rogue One gave a wink to it, though.

Its been fun, Mondays has been a good day. Although I will miss Star Grift, listening to y'all these last few months has encouraged me to start telling my own stories in the Star Wars universe again. I am going to be starting a SW5E campaign with some cyberpunk and neo noir elements set on Nar Shaddaa. I look forward to any future Star Grift episodes and hope you guys have a good 2024.

@@snazzle9764 It's very kitsche, nowhere near how people would actually talk in that situation, but I can't stay mad at it; it's like the whole movie's an amateurish community play where some of the actors are actually quite good while other actors are sort of just hanging in there, and you could imagine the story being way better in the Broadway rewrite; that little scene is that in a nutshell.
THeory insists on repeating the same cycle over and over. Which is a shame, because when he engages in the discussion it can be really interesting. The famous jealousy of Darth Vader is one example. But I think he gets discouraged by Rian and Mauler being so outspoken, because his reasoning mostly is that something is "dope". But that's not a bad thing. It just doesn't sound very convincing next to substantive arguments. The beauty of the grift is, that these things can coexist peacefully and it's really interesting to get the "consoomer" perspective. Sadly it seems, that Theory doesn't really want to do the work for the podcast to be engaging.
Someone should get SWT to read the comments on this video.

The scene where obi wan is chasing grievous. All of the clones on screen are doing different animations. Idk if temura actually acted out each motion ir if it was animated but the attention to detail was crazy to me as a kid

You know, it is rather funny that there is mention of swords/whips (especially plasma-coated ones) because I am writing a Sci-Fi that features our main protagonist using one.

Bro, it's shocking how much you don't know about or are just wrong about when it comes to Star Wars. That's something that's become pretty clear in watching these. Point in case, you're wrong about what you said right before this statement. TCW, as flawed as it is, is pretty clear on it.
The story behind the obi wan stance that theory kinda flubbed is that he starts in his clones wars (General Grevoius Stance), shifts into the stance qui gon did when he died, maul attempts the same coup de gras, and obi counters. Also Theory cut out the discussion they had before this built tension and gave the fight more emotional resonance. Even though rebels is 99% lame, I honesty prefer this fight to their TMP fight because it reminds me of saber fights in the OT where theres more character focus rather than the more pure combat focus of the PT. (I still adore their TMP fight)
