i have purchased stock of products which are very old. Some from 2003. Most of the barcodes dont turn up anything when i search them online. Listing them on amazon is becoming tedious. I dont know if they are UPC, EAN or GTIN. Someone help me out and give me pointers in figuring this out
Unfortunately the high cost makes it nearly impossible for a small clothing brand to use legit UPCs. If you have a couple products, this is pricey, but the annual fee is only $50. With clothes, you need a different UPC for each cut, color, size, & variation. Very quickly you get into the hundreds of UPCs needed. See the problem here? & please don’t comment telling me to contact you. Lol. I’m just saying, your pricing needs fixed, both the ridiculously high initial fees & the crushing renewal fees. It’s insane that Coke, a company valued in the hundreds of Billions is paying a few grand a year for renewal fees & a small clothing business would be paying like $500+. SMH. Times are changing & small businesses need UPCs these days too, not just massive corporations…GS1 should recognize that & adapt. Lower the barrier to entry.
They also don't mention what a rip off it is if you only want a couple of bar codes and that they have a monopoly in this area so you have to pay what they charge as there's no competition. You also have to carry on paying for the same bar code year after year.
Hi Chris - we are sorry that you have had a negative experience with us. The annual licence that you pay is helping to ensure the GTIN's you create are only related to your brand and no one else. With smaller suppliers who provide cheaper numbers, your brand could be effected as you are using GTIN's that could have been used by many other companies, and so your products, when being sold online via say Amazon won't be attributed to your company. We're protecting your brand so as your business grows, your brand is resonated with you and no one else. We are reviewing our pricing model, and will let you know when this happens.
@@GS1UK Who asked you to charge us to look after our brand? Fine if you want to offer that service but don't force us all to have to pay for it year after year. When will your price "review" be complete, - if ever? You are a monopoly and there needs to be other companies offering bar codes and related services.
GS1UK 6 months ago @KM Joshy we are reviewing our pricing, and we apologise if you have not had a great experience with us in the past. Please get in touch with us at: support@gs1uk.org in order for us to understand your frustrations better.
Just wait until you miss a renewal.. This is exactly why monopoly laws are supposed to exist in the United States. They want to take a rent payment from small business owners.
So basically I saw few of those videos and noone says how to get that code. Justg explaining what it is and why do you need it. Does anyone knows then?
Hi Marcela thanks for your comment. You just need to join a GS1. By joining a GS1 you'll get your company prefix and you can create GTINs/barcodes. To find a GS1 in your country check out our global website: www.gs1.org/
Hi Sundhar, it's not very clear what you mean by your question, but if you want to find out more about creating a barcode and trading, you can find out here: www.gs1uk.org/about-us/who-we-are/our-standards/gs1-gtin-more-than-just-a-number
How do I create a barcode for my (small) shop which sells products. Can I just use any online barcode maker or do I need some sort of registration? To scan use the barcodes I use my own program
Hi Vasil, in order to create a barcode you will need something called a GTIN, which are the numbers that appear in barcode and uniquely identify your products. You can find out more information at the following link: www.gs1uk.org/about-us/who-we-are/our-standards/gs1-gtin-more-than-just-a-number - take a look and if you need more help call us on our number at: 0808 178 8799
You can't show a two year balance sheet as this is not something we ask for. When you join us we trust you will place yourself in the correct turnover band. Start-up companies are usually in the first turnover band 0-05m
