  • OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY: Today we are moving 5 large Blackberry plants to a new location. The best time to do this is in the fall after the plant has gone dormant and has stopped producing fruit. We also transplanted some of the canes from earlier this year that we bent over and buried in the ground to start a new plant, they are doing great.
Thanks for watching AND SHARING our videos and if you have any questions leave them below =)

I love the wild blackberry/raspberries they keep growing out into the yard so now i mow a path and squared off a big long area for new ones to grow and have LOTS of new plants where i use to mow, Free food and easy!

I picked a really silly spot because I was thinking for some reason that blackberries were vines... I wanted them to vine up my deck railing. Instead they're just falling over it. Thank you for this video! I had no idea how the roots on blackberries worked. Time to move them to the fence.

Hi, I just transplanted an entire row of these today, so NE Ohio cares ;)
I'm new to this property, vwe bought a couple acres a few months ago and are still finding treasures here, today while digging up my canes, I found a huge strawberry patch so I transplanted some of those too! Happy gardening! Yah bless you! My hubs and I wear braids too 🙏❤

I am planning on moving a mature blackberry and Google brought me right to you, which was double exciting because I already follow your channel. I knew you would give trustworthy and experienced advice. The one I’m moving is about the same size as yours and it was helpful to hear that you cut back some before transplanting.

The music made my neighbour think I'm crazy!
I was sitting on the porch watching the video and dancing in my chair (you know, that silly arms flailing only dancing you do while sitting when the music just forces you to have fun) and rather than stopping to say hi and chat a minute as usual, my neighbour just walked head down quickly into her house.
    Lol. Thanks for that! :-)

Blackberries and raspberries grow like crazy here in Indiana.......but the wild ones don't produce anything like the thornless ones I bought at the local big box hardware store. I will be transplanting some of the starts I made from sticking a long branch into a pot of dirt....easy to make starts

    • @terrim.602

Me too! From good ol' Skagit Valley! We used the THORNED blackberry bushes as fences. We only had to maintain the bones and the gait ways. Easy peasy!
Interestingly, we NEVER picked the berries for anything except berry fights. We literally hated those things, lol! Now I just paid a lady for thornless blackberry starts!
Many people who weren't raised in the PNW don't know the stalks on thorned bushes can get so thick it takes a chainsaw to cut them when clearing spaces. Doug is right, if you miss a full root, they come back.

Okay first off Me being from the Pacific Northwest in Washington State I'm already in disagreement and it's only 2 minutes in no. See I do side jobs labor things people don't want to necessarily do one of the big things is BlackBerry removal roots and all can I can assure you the roots go much further down then just a foot or a little bit over a foot especially on a big cluster. You can have something to go down to four or five feet easily. In my opinion the nicest thing about blackberries is that it is a wild impenetrable fencing practically no one will have the balls to be able to just run through 15 ft wide of blackberries that are 10 ft tall. I honestly think practically the only way you could actually get through that would be naked and that's a pretty screwed up day and something crazy happened but if you're wearing any clothing you are going to get so snagged up on it that you won't be able to move
