The show's definitely improved since the earlier seasons, though I'll admit that I miss the shorter episode style. The newer episodes feel a lot less structured.

I remember when Beyblades did have the metal blades with bits of something not sure what but it made the blades spark upon contact.

We had beyblades with triple deck metal bands that would literally break our beyblade tournament pens after a few hits, hundreds of our parents dollars into little spinning missles of death that take off anything from the toe to the kneecap
we had wall ball. if you missed the ball you had to run and touch the wall. if someone threw the ball and it hit the wall before you did you had to stand at the wall and the thrower would get to chuck the ball at you from a set line. you got to choose to face the thrower or the wall. if you face the thrower and he missed you got to throw it at him.

Generation 1 beyblades, we had custom builds using illegal parts, some kid a few grades higher tried swapping out defense rings with razors and saw blades (none of the kids were actually dumb enough to actually grab a spinning blade), replacing the metal (or plastic) bit on the bottom that it spins on with a custom screw or something else, fun times. There were even some good knockoff weight rings, I tried searching for an image on google but I couldn't find it, any way, they were heavy fully round smooth rings that were gold in colour and had flint embedded into the ring to cause sparks.

Edit: tbf mine didn't have any sharp parts. The edges were all round and connected, so it was just a big circle. It could still hurt to pick it up if you didn't wait for it to slow down, but it wouldn't cut you or anything.
