    You are clicking the line from the top menu every time you want to draw another line. That is not needed. When you are drawing a line, the line command doesn't terminate when you click the second point. If you look at your cursor, you can see the line is still active. To continue with another line, put the cursor over the end point of the last line. When it turns yellow, as you point out, it is coincident. Then you can click the first point of your next line, go to the second point and click it. Without going back to click the menu line (or selecting "L" on your keyboard) you can draw another line. I don't know what version of freecad you are using. Possibly this is older than 16, which I am using, an that functionality is not available on your version.

    Suppose the labels and attributes tree needs to be well organized from the beginning. Not knowing how or if its possible to reorganize, I got as far as cutting the shape out, but found myself otherwise unable to modify the shapes after cutting out the champhered box.
    My workspace has only one unnamed object and cuts and pads didn't end up in the same space. (idk what freecad calls the labels and attributes tree). Does seem a few steps more off-the-cuff than level one, but still helpful. Many thanks.

    Instead of creating so many individual lines by launching the line tool each time, you could have used the Polyline tool just to the left of the rectangle tool, and be done in one go and in much less time.
    At 7:15 you add a vertical distance constraint of zero between the profile bottom left end point and the horizontal sketch axis. That's not considered good practice. You should have created a point on object constraint instead.

    • @powerplayground
      @powerplayground  7 років тому +1

      +Normand Chamberland Woah, thanks for the tip! That looks a helluva lot easier than trying to connect individual lines!
      Yeah I have learned the hard way recently that it is not the best solution. I'm usually not one of following best practices. :P

    • @normandchamberland1503
      @normandchamberland1503 7 років тому +2

      No problem. Follow-up tip: the Polyline tool has 6 constrained modes that you cycle through by pressing the M key. You can do perpendicular or colinear lines, tangent and perpendicular arcs. It is really my go-to tool in the Sketcher.

    I have two questions when reproduce your work by using Free CAD 0.18.
    1. how to horizontal draw a line without using horizontal button? (I have tried to hold "shift" as wiki said when draw one, but it doesn't work)
    2. how to draw continuous line. After drawing a line A, I want to draw another line B linking to A, so I place the start point of line B into the site of end point of A (now this point become yellow). But this line A-B is not a continuous line but two non-linked lines. When I move the common point, A and B are separated.

    • @brianhicks2103
      @brianhicks2103 4 роки тому

      I was able to get this to work in 0.18 by checking the 'Auto Remove Redundants' box in the solver messages section of the task pane on the right side of the screen ('Combo View'). I had to keep removing the constraint regarding the left and rightmost 40 mm line segments to get this to work.

What do I do?

    bro im not gonna lie, i literally have been trying to get this shit to work for like a week. i'm following every single keystroke and click that you do and its not giving me the same thing. i really dont understand what the deal is. first the lines at the top wont stay attached to each other with certain vertical distance constraints applied, i cant move the whole sketch around freely without one of the edges getting all off whack when i drag it.

    From a teaching perspective, this was impossible to follow. Things such as "Click here", "Let's just get rid of that", "Move this right there" is nearly impossible to follow you as you are clicking and typing. Proper terminology such as , "In the top left menu, right-click on the pad item, and click toggle visibility" would help immensely. I have spent an hour going through 11 minutes of this and have given up, constantly having to stop and skip back 10 seconds to figure out what "this" or "right here" is.
