- I am sorry that it took so long to finish the second half of the Serbian alphabet. I know my accent is bad, any tips, throw them in the comments!
Did you know that Serbian Cyrillic and Korean Alphabets are most perfect alphabets in the world?
What about bulgarian :D And there is no Ъъ in the serbian alphabet :D
Alexander Alexandrov That's why Serbian alphabet is perfect and Bulgarian is not. :D The letter Ъъ can't stand by itself, but is used to alter the sound of the previous letter. In the Serbian alphabet, every letter is stand-alone. :)
nexxogen No, man, you are talking about ь. There is difference between ь and ъ ;) Ъ is like dark A. Like The "i" in first. ;) And in serbian, there isnt such a sound, so you dont have letter for it.

Loved the video. There are few mistakes buddy:
1. Њ looks like this. That half circle is connected to - in H.
2. Difference between Ћ and Č, it's this:
Ć (Ћ) is similar to ch in cheers, and exact same as ci in Italian ciao.
Č (Ч) is similar to ch in crunchy, or ch in punched, or Ch in Charles.
Č is tsh, and it's harder pronunciation, and Ć is tj, and it's softer.
You don't say živeli (cheers) as čirs, but ćirs :)
And you don't say udarac (punch) as panć, but panč :D hahaha
So Ч is harder, and Ћ is more shrilly.
3. ф looks like this (the line going through the circle is longer then diameter)
4. that bottom little line in Ц first goes more horisontal _ and then goes down.
5. You pronounced Џ as Ђ.
Џ is the end of grunge.
Ђ is j in mojo. Џ is deeper and lower.

Mikro, savršeno si opisao ili opisala, sve je perfektno objašnjeno. Vidi se da si odličan poznavalac srpskog, ali i engleskog. Samo imam jedno pitanje, da ne kažem zamerku, na jednu stavku: ko još kaže "ćirs" (cheers)? Jasno se čuje Č, doduše mekše nego u "march", ali ipak č. Ć je zaista teško objasniti Amerikancu. To tvoje " ć" u "cheers" je hrvatsko č ili italijansko (cappuccino). Ili tursko "c". Ludilo. 😀 Ali nikako srpsko ć.
Difference in pronunciation of letters Ć and Č does not come from forming the shape of your lips but how you set your tongue.
For letter Č you need to set the TIP of your tongue on alveolar - gum just behind teeth, and for letter Ć (soft č) you should adjust tongue parallel to alveolar and softly press with the middle-forward of your tongue.
It's so hilarious watching you learn Serbian, but you're doing great. It's very difficult language to learn. And yes, try hard with cyrillic alphabet, it's native traditional Serbian alphabet which we try to save from time and English alphabet. We love it :)

As a Russian I like those Њ и Љ cause they are made by adding a soft sign Ь to Н и Л
They are actually phonologically distinct from the combination of Н Ь и Л Ь

Hey Charles. Nice to see that you're practising the cyrrilic alphabet :) I'd like to explain the difference between ć/ћ & č/ч. The difference in the pronounciation is that the ć is t+sh. Sh is actually kind of like an English y, as in 'you, together with an s sound (phonetically it's called a palatal affricative). But the č is t+š. The š you pronounce by, instead of s+y, you do s+english r. You just say the English R, but let air flow through your teeth (phonetically it's called a fricative retroflex). So, the č is t+š (An affricative retroflex). Hope this helps :)

Hey Charles, great video as always!
There is good way to differentiate č from ć. In "Č/Ч" you touch your upper palate just with the tip of your tongue, and tongue is stiffed, and in "Ć/Ћ" you touch it with the whole relaxed tongue.
In English/American "ch" you touch your palate with the part of surface of the tongue, so it sounds somewhere in between Č and Ć to us :)

“Ф” isn’t just a circle with s line true it as the line is longer and not just within the circle.
No... it’s not dumb that we have “Ћ”and “Ч” because we have words like ЋЕБЕ (blanket) or ЧАША (glass) .... so blanket and glass you can’t start with a same letter .... can you Charles!!!

About " Ч-Č " use word "Чарапе = Čarapе (socks) " for exercise, easy to say but letter Č stands out, so there is no way that "Č" sounds like "Ć".

Michael Davenport speaks fluent Serbian language and he is pure Brititish(Englishman I believe).
Also the most known foreign man that lives in our land and speak our language is Timothy Byford. He came to Belgrade in early 70's and created a legendary TV shows for children. Many grew up watcing those programs (in our language of course). He earned a "national pension"( 100 000 dinars, abou 900 euros) several years ago.

Hey Charles to help you in trying to say Ч/Č it is very similar to saying TR in english like the tr in trust/trick etc. Ч/Č sounds more like TR than CH. Hopefully it can help you learn how to say it :)

Just for the note, Serbian alphabet is in perfect harmony with words, and if you listen how he explained letter "Ц" that is how every letter should be pronounced, in the ears of Serbian word "please" would be written "pliz", or "love you" "lov ju" there is only one sound/letter that we don't use and i don't know how to write it, it is similar to "Z" more like you want to say "D" and you say "Z". There is people making fun of this letter, like giving somebody a nick name which starts with this letter, and it can't be written, because there is no letter.
Where things go really fucked up is when you write all four fonts (both ways from each-the scripts and printed letters)!

Charles Cather Џ is pronouced more like J in *j*ar and less than J in *J*ust, but it's ok :) Also, Ч аnd Ћ are different, but it's hard to understand the difference, because in English there are words with sounds that are the same (or similar) as Serbian, but English ch is neither Ч nor Ћ, but something inbetween.

Charles, how come u don't see(hear) the difference between Ć and Č? The first one is soft while the second one is much stronger. Č letter u pronounce a little bit softer than it should and I believe that's why u can't make a clear difference. U say Č almost like Ć. That's how I hear it.
Č is strong, Ć is soft.
It's hard for him, he's not used to such a complicated accent. Serbian is really complicated and so don't worry about that.
When you want to say ђ say dj fast together and when you wanna say џ say dj but put your tongue in upper part of xour mouth the same is for ћ say tj and ч is harder so put tongue upper.

If we had only one letter for Ч & Ћ then we wouldn’t have words starting with those two letters as the words are completely different such as; ЋЕВАПИ and ЧЕШАЉ .... etc!
about Č and Ć ... way better to remember right pronouning... Ć is formed when you with first half of tongue push up and release tongue while push air from chest... Č is formed when you with top of tongue push up and realease tongue while push air from chest... mouths do not play an important role, try! :)

So if you learn our alphabet, unlike english, you will learn how to read everything without exception just by knowing how to read each letter. Which is enough for you, but our grammar, if I may say so myself, is probably one of the most complex and hardest to fathom of any language in the world.
Chinese is hard because of the sheer volume of letters or idioms you need to learn, but our language structure is the most complex and hardest, even more than Russian which has a lot in common with our own.

ć/ћ and č/ч - the difference is in the position of your tongue. With ć/ћ, your tongue is pushing against your teeth more than with č/ч, meaning the č/ч lets more air go through making it a voiceless postalveolar affricate consonant (if that means anything to you, at all). So, it almost has nothing to do with you lips positioning.
I am sure you don't need to be this advanced. Keep speaking with people and it will come to you naturally. Avoid listening to Bosnians and Croatians pronouncing these letters.

In Slovenian it's only č there is no ć... also no đ.
Dž, Nj and Lj are also not separate alphabets in Slovenian so you just combine n and j to create the sound... simpler and makes sense.
Notice Slovenian has the least number of alphabets among Slavic languages. Try to learn Slovak or Czech alphabets, you'll fucking die, so many sounds, so many alphabets, very very tough... so many alphabets which you'd think are the same sound (you can't even figure out the difference in the sound) Serbian alphabet is much easier when you compare it to them except for the fact that Cyrillic confuses you.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN Č AND Ć:
Č is pronounced as "ch" as in check.
Ć is pronounced as "ch" as in chew.
Č comes from the front part of your mouth and you have to raise your upper lip to say it right.
Ć comes from the top part of your mouth. You can try putting you mouth for saying "nj" and then say Č instead and it will sound like Ć because you'll use the proper part of your mouth. Hope that helps clear out the mystery once and for all.
P.S. and the other letters:
dž - as "j" in jam;
đ (also dj) - as "j" in Jew;
nj - as "ne" in new;
š - as "sh" in short;
ž - as "s" in pleasure.

The point is they're not the same
You are doing good with Č, but Ć is not the same, man! Nobody taught you properly. Ć is like "mućaćo" in Spanish, or "mućo gusto" 😁 (since you've been in Mexico). Maybe you don't recognize the difference because you don't have Ć in English language. I got ya! There it is! Got ya! It's almost a pure Cyrillic Ć. It is much softer than Č in Čarls. Good luck!😘
