Varan and Jati which would roughly translate to lineage was turned into "caste" system, it was meant to categorize people on basis of skills not birth and it can be seen in other culture as well like Japan and even in Europe where surnames like Baker or Smith could tell you their ancestral occupation. When East India company arrived in India they praised the Indian education system and family values but after involvement of crown in the company you can see the shift in their writing, they start depicting India as very savage and backward place. East India Company came as a trading company which was simply fascinated by the wealth in India, initially they wrote about how they were impressed with Indian culture, tradition and family values but in 1813 due to politics the crown got involved and started sending missionaries to India for conversion, which was unsuccessful as Dharmic tradition is very different from Abrahamic religion. Most written historical records of India were destroyed by Turkic invaders so whatever oral history India had was branded as Myth by the British. Whereas, Christian missionaries like James Mill a guy who has never been to India, were given a job to write history for India where of course they started depicting India as backward and savage place and also it was made compulsory for ever British official to read these books before they were stationed in India. So you could Imagine what brainwashed mindset they came to India with. Moreover, Aryan Invasion theory is another myth simply another divide and rule policy out of many.

It’s tragic that this happened to so many countries that were ruled by European powers. This movie was eye opening to me as I knew very little about this time in history for the Indian people.

The clincher in any argument where the op brings up "Caste System" is to ask the op if he knows what the "Reservation System" is.

    Real joke is ...
British historians and journalists nowadays say that colonies have prospered because of Colonialism.

They say India today has trains thanks to Britain.
Someone tell them that India today also has its own space program, which is one of the top 6 Space Programs of the world. Meanwhile, UK can't even launch a single human hair to orbit without relying on USA or Europe or India.
So if India can make space rockets with friggin Cryogenic engines (hydrolox), then India could have also got trains on its own, without the Brits. Just like the Japanese did and made the Shinkansen (Bullet Train).

First thing that came up in my mind when I was reading this chapter in my history lesson was 'how can Indian soldiers shoot their own people?' If I were in their place I would have shot the official even if it led to my death, you know juvenile thinking but years later I learned that these soldiers were Afghan and Gurkha. British Raj were good at their divide and rule policy where they exploited past tensions between Afghans and Sikhs or Hindus and Muslims. They say history is always written by "winners" but perhaps incidents like these are too sinful to bury.

Agree, the people in power always find ways to manipulate those around them, taking advantage of circumstances to further their agenda.

*Baloch , not Afghan. Also, these soldiers were veterans of World War 1. And we all know how brutal that war was. No wonder none of them hesitated on the trigger.

    Wow Wow Wow
    Thank you brother.
    Movie is 95% truth.
Shooting in movie is about 4.5 minutes but in reality it was more than 11 mins.
What they didn't show is he individually corrected the soldiers who were missing the shots and ordered them to shoot at the densest section of the crowd so that more people can get killed in less time and Bullets( Remember im RRR)
*Now you know 0.01% of british brutality in India during colonization.*

"Like their elephants the Indians never forget their Enemies"
    Yes sir, we don't!
This movie is an absolute masterpiece. It gets almost all the facts right without compromising anything for artistic liberty. Even the brutality shown is quite less compared to what happened in real life.

    Only one criticism...
Your review was way too short.
Its very unusual you were unable to speak about this movie for even 2 mins.
