You also don't have access to what "version" (distro) you are running, the one in the video is Debian. You don't have the privacy that linux comes with (granted, some distros also like to spy on you). You don't have full compatibility with applications. You don't have the same performance because you are in a VM. Edit: on the plus side, the VM gives you access to some Linux software that might be useful to you (usually Windows users install linux VM's to use gcc, for example)

I have an old Chromebook HP 14. It's come to the end of its update periods. I've got two options (1 never use it again ? or (2 give to my nephew (13yrs )with a Linux operating system? I have to confess I'm not in any way a Linux user, hence I'm a very green green horn. If I managed to setup Linux it will be a Nobel prize moment 😁😁 However, would it be overwhelmeing for him? (Not simple and straightforward enough for a young lad?) Should I proceed? Or just forget about the good will gesture?? And the best way to proceed is to download a distro on a USB from a desktop PC correct? And then plug in to HP14 Chromebook and bingo?? correct? Please forgive my total lack of Linux knowledge. @@emelia7134 yeah, go to chrome://flags, turn crostini use dlc to disabled, restart your chromebook, then it will open crosh where you will type vmc destroy termina. After you download Linux you can turn crostini use dlc back to default
@@swtheart9198 it will tell you to restart your computer then when it restarts it automatically opens crosh and then in crosh you write vmc destroy termina click enter then it should work

Same here, but the only "crazy" things I do on my Chromebook are video editing and android emulators. The emulators are really frustrating, because they have tons of problems, like on Roblox, with it crashing almost at random, I already can't play a few experiences because it'll just crash! At this point, I'm just hopeless, and honestly regret buying a chromebook rather than just a simple windows laptop... Srry if I accidentally poured my frustration everywhere, I just need to vent right now...

When I enter the command ls -1 /dev/sd? It never reads my usb how can I fix this I’m sharing with Linux already

You have to manually install the desktop environment. This step only activates the Linux Terminal.
