Favorite line is on Sonje when he says "In the immortal words of Fela Anikulapo: People jostle Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am, i gotta eat da apple"... my fav rapper referencing my all-time fav artist is a trip
Yeah, that Shrapknel album is one of my favorites so far this year. It seems like almost no one is talking about it, so I'm glad you did. Of course the Mach-Hommy album is something special. That almost goes without saying. Anyone who has heard it knows.
I've been trying to get all of my friends onto this ShrapKnel. I really liked their last one but this one is seriously ridiculous. Between the layered beats, the flows, and the poetic fuckery - this album was crafted perfectly. I loved how I never knew what to expect.
@@mykectown What pushes this one ahead in my opinion is only really the replay value. I played select tracks from Metal Lung a lot, but this entire new LP is full of so many "holy shit" beat/rapping moments I'm gonna replay the whole thing often.
Mach tape is my aoty, such a great album. Going to be a great starting point to recommend for new listeners too with it being as easy to listen to as it is. Need to check out that ShrapKnel album soon
i haven't heard the Shrapknel project yet, but my interest to Shrapknel increased when i saw Controller 7's name on it. im 22 right now and i discovered Anticon when i was in my final teenage years. While im not into the rappers of that label, i love the producers on those projects back then. So when i saw Controller 7 on Shrapknel, i was excited. Definitely gonna check it out someday.
The title song RICHAXXHAITAN has some of the best flows and bars I've heard on a "radio friendly/pop" sounding hiphop record. Mach's flow on the 2nd verse is immaculate. The chorus had to grow on me.. really didn't like it at first, but now it fits so well to me
I listened to ShrapKnel self-titled, Metal Lung, PremRock's Load-Bearing Crow's Feet, and Curly Castro's Little Robert Hutton. This new project is definitely their best. They just keep getting better and better.
Really digging the Wave Generators album, the new joint of Nosaj of New Kingdom. His best since Paradise Don't Come Cheap (GOATed for me and generally slept on).
I love your videos man, keep up the great work! I was also curious what you thought about the last two Aesop Rock projects? I thought they were pretty solid
This is how I find out that ShrapKnel dropped a new album, whoops, but I loved their previous album so I'm definetly checking out this one. And the Mach-Hommy album is absolutely amazing, one of the greatest to do it currently
That Mach record is an instant Classic‼‼‼👑👑👑👑 so much to unpack like usual... might be a top 3 if not Mach's best work... flawless.. haven't heard that ShrapKnel record, I'll check it out‼‼🔥🔥🔥🔥 Hope to see these double reviews continue😄😌🙌💜
both of these have been in heavy rotation for me, glad to hear you’ve been digging them 🙏 besides the Lupe, would love to hear your thoughts on Previous Industries album that just came out, it’s the debut by Open Mike Eagle, Video Dave, and STILL RIFT’s group together, mostly produced by Child Actor, and a couple by Quelle Chris. also the new Boldy James and Conductor Williams album is dope. idk if you’ve talked about it yet but would love a review on Moor Mother’s album from earlier this year, love the sonic landscape she created on it and the way she commands attention in her music.
The first song is basically him introducing himself.... he says "Anmwe, Men Rasta" which roughly translates to Holy shit, the rastaman is coming. On serpent and rainbow at first i thought he was referencing Ayida-Weddo the loa spirit known as the rainbow serpent because i think it makes sense with the first but i think in the second verse when he says "where i'm from, en plein port-au-prince, u can't come" might be the reference tp the movie because not only the protagonist got pushed out of the country in the film but production had to be halted and resumed in Dominican Republic because of political turmoil. I could be way off lol with rappers like Mach, you start overthinking everything. Great review!
Myke, if you’re into the ShrapKnel and abstract Backwoodz studios type stuff you gotta check out the new album from cropscropscrops. It’s titled “a conversation at the gas station about where to go next” and it’s seriously dope R.A.P. Ferreira-coded stuff, he even has one of the Ruby Yacht boys featured and it’s a tight 30 minute listen that I think you might really fuck with, the writing is real free-associative and packed full of imagery. He’s actually out two albums this year with different producers and they’re both dope but I think you’ll particularly fuck wit the newest one
Small suggestions: it would be nice to include the albim names in the title, it'd probably make it wasier to people to land on this channel when searching by name. Though yeah I realize you are planning on doing 4 at a time so it's maybe not the best suggestion
Nine inch nails.I like experimental alt rock and industrial rock but I know who created the whole genre which is Chuck berry. Controversial figures giving you music.
Wow! You are so excellent at talking about rap music! You should be on a hip-hop show!!!
I hate you. Haha.

As much as I'm going to miss you on DEHH I'm loving the more frequent uploads to this channel! Thank you for being awesome Myke!

Love when rappers pay homage to Fela kuti

Stoked on Lupe’s album, stoked to hear you talk Mach, just fucking stoked. Thanks Myke
Lupe lost his mind on some of those tracks. Even though they aren't as cinematic i'd go as far as to say his rhyming was Mural level on most songs.
Love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Mach Hommy x Black Thought was a work of art. Thanks for the review.
Thanks, Myke. Appreciate that.
It's so weird that almost nobody talks about that Shrapknel album. Easily one of the best this year.
I've been trying to get all of my friends onto this ShrapKnel. I really liked their last one but this one is seriously ridiculous. Between the layered beats, the flows, and the poetic fuckery - this album was crafted perfectly. I loved how I never knew what to expect.
Yeah, I'm really leaning into this one being my favorite. But I still can't tell if it's recency bias...or if it's really THAT good!

The goat, Myke C-Town! Great picks, bro. Had a pretty tough day today. This video picked me up a bit. Thanks for that 🤝🏽
I’m surprised u didn’t talk about sur le pont d avignon, sonje or politickle those are the best songs on the album
loveeee that new shrapknel so much. the deep space 9mm interpolation made me lose it first time i heard it

i believe that sfx on serpent is from space ghost
Nobody Planning On Leaving is my favourite hip hop album for this year. Really like Prem Rock and I freaking LOVE Culry Castro.
Huge props for shouting out Controller 7. His recent production masterpieces show how important anticon’s movement was to the evolution of indy rap…
I love your videos man, keep up the great work! I was also curious what you thought about the last two Aesop Rock projects? I thought they were pretty solid
sharpknel like a baby armand hammer?

I got excited about the The Serpent and The Rainbow reference having just watched it for the first time 😅

Love the Robert Johnson shirt! Any favorite blues albums?
Oh my god, thank you for highlighting that Ibex line! 😂 nobody ever peeps how dope that line is.
😊
Hope we get some Your Old Droog album talk on the next one
I hated that the beat at the ending of POLITicikle only lasts about 30 seconds. Mach would def snap on that
that transformers sound u were talking abt on Serpent and the Rainbow is Sadhugold's producer tag, wouldn't be surprised if that's the source lol
Also Myke seriously if you have the time to check it out. Listen to an album called MMCHT by Nickelus F. It does not disappoint.
Curly castro is one of the most charismatic rappers working rn. New Shrapknel is great
Nice 🔥 another Rap Up from one of the most trusted opinions in the GAME 😁🙏🏽🔥
What am I chopped liver???

Yo Myke! Be sure to peep the new Boldy x Conductor tape too! Also, the Big Hit x Hitboy x Al record.
AOTY, but I honestly can’t recommend it to ALL of my friends. Which I definitely respect 🔥🔥🔥🔥
First, what's up Myke? Hope you're good!
Have you heard the new nxworries album

Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, LED Zeppelin, and Nirvana.
BEANS - ZWAARD is a fantastic record check it out Myke
Are we going to get a Review for copywrite new album ?
Right. That was pretty dope. " I be hearing mixtapes in my sleep" lol
Myke have you considered changing your usual format to a grading based system?
For what?
@@mykectown mb I was trying to be snarky cuz deadend randomly started doing a grading system
I think that sound effect is from Super Friends lol

I am Rage Against Machine, Radiohead and White Stripes guy not Cure.
Tame impala.
Gun and roses because of slash solos.Even though Axel Rose is a psychopathic character that I do not agree with.
Myke Acolyte is not that bad. It is mid show with some Jedi history.
Acolyte is garbage. Unlike the albums I'm talking about in this video.
"Look like I robbed Ben 10 for his wristwatch" by Fahim is the funnest/hardest line I've heard in a very long time lol
Nine inch nails.I like experimental alt rock and industrial rock but I know who created the whole genre which is Chuck berry. Controversial figures giving you music.
Check out Bad Cameo by James Blake and Lil Yachty. Great album
