i don't remember watching this video before but i am so happy you recommended in the "omdat/want video" because now everything makes sense!! I just need to save up a bit more of money so I am able to purchase your programs but thank you so much in advance or making this videos, your explanatios so far are very clear and easy to understand! greetings from Limburg.
Thank you for making this channel. I've been using duolingo to learn and it's great as practice but also it doesn't explain why the sentence suddenly changes or why they suddenly change word use (like flip-flopping meijes and meiden with no explaination beyond now use this for girls)
i love conjunctions and catapult and word order. I love how the Dutch grammar is different from English grammar. Because i have a dyslexia and i can easily confuse two languages. ( english is not my native language).
Thank you a lot for the explanation, I really needed it. Btw, word order in German works pretty much like this with one exception - in subordinate clauses you put the modal and auxilirary verbs at the end.
You're welcome. Indeed, knowing German really helps. Another thing is the 'Ich glaube, es wäre gut sein', in Dutch you'd use a 'dat' in between the two sentences.
Hello, it's pretty hard for me to understand when in the sentence the second verb is not being placed at the end for example "we kunnen niet beginnen zonder hem" i dont understand exactly why is "beginnen" is not placed at the end
Good question, parts starting with prepositions can be put behind the second verb. But they're also correct before the second verb, as in: 'We kunnen niet zonder hem beginnen.' I advise my student to try this as much as possible as it becomes a bad habit to put other words behind the second infinitive, which might be incorrect.
Duolingo has this subject in quite an early position, yet it's an A2 subject? It's especially difficult on uses like "hebben nodig" and "van houden", since the "verb" consists of two parts and they are located in completely different parts.
It's a subject many students of different levels struggle with, even B1 and B2. It's important to get it right from the start though. If not, you might still make mistakes at higher levels.

Thank you for the video but I have a question. In the sentences below: ''Omdat ik nu ga werken, kan ik vroeger vertrekken.'' Why is the verb ''ga'' not in infinitive form? Isn't it that all verbs go at the end in infinitive form when we use omdat and als? If not is this sentence wrong: ''Als ik meer woog, zou ik snel kunnen lopen.'' Here does kunnen have to be in finite form? Thank you.
Hi, when you're using modal verbs like gaan, you'll conjugate the modal verb. Even with als and omdat. In the sentence "Als ik meer woog, zou ik snel kunnen lopen.', zou is the conjugated modal verb, so indeed kunnen is in the infinitive form.
@@LearnDutchwithAlain betaald is the participle for "paid"... How can a participle be considered as a "verb"? "I have paid" in Dutch is " Ik heb betaald". Sorry, but this is very strange.

Hi, I'm from Belgium, that's probably why :) I also slow down and tend to over-articulate so students understand. Grammar is the same though, and vocabulary around 99% the same. And in this video there's even more info: ua-cam.com/video/vHhppJO67ko/v-deo.html

Great video. I like how you explained these words.
Trying to translate from English to Dutch is very difficult because of the different word order. This helps a lot. Thanks very much

Yes, but with het: 'naar het restaurant'. Op restaurant is, I discovered recently, typically Belgian.

Hello.. Can you please make a video on adverbs ?
Hi Sonika, what questions do you have? In Dutch, adverbs and adjectives are the same: ik werk goed, dat is een goede kat.
Erg bedankt! Kan je met andere conjucties ( nadat, indien, zogauw, enz) sommige voorbelden maken?
Goed, ik voeg het aan de lijst toe. Momenteel heb ik niet veel tijd, maar ik laat het je weten.
