Leather meets DTF printing - will it work? 🧐🖨️ Dive into this explorative journey to find out if leather, both genuine and faux, can embrace the unique world of DTF printing with success.
The quest to discover if leather can successfully undergo DTF (Direct to Film) printing is packed with intriguing findings. This experiment tests various leather items, including genuine leather, faux leather, leather luggage tags, and leather patches for hats, to determine if they can handle the DTF process. Starting with a temperature of 270°F for about 20 seconds, the process involved careful monitoring to avoid damaging the leather. Interestingly, it was observed that the leather emitted moisture during the process, indicating that a pre-press to remove moisture might be beneficial. 🌡️🧳
Upon testing, genuine leather showcased promising results. It retained its texture and quality post-print, though a bit of moisture-induced fading was noted. A second press with parchment paper seemed to enhance the appearance significantly, suggesting this might be a key step in the process. Faux leather, on the other hand, required some adjustments. Its texture became flatter and lost some of its original feel, leading to the conclusion that smoother, non-textured faux leather might be better suited for DTF. Leather luggage tags posed a unique challenge due to the plastic components, which were affected by the heat. However, the leather part of the tag printed beautifully. 🛄👌
Finally, the leather patch for a hat showed great potential. The DTF print adhered well to the leather, and the process of attaching the patch to the hat was successful, although slight adjustments in temperature and pressure were necessary. This exploration into the compatibility of leather with DTF printing opens up a realm of possibilities for creating custom, high-quality leather products. If you're looking to experiment with DTF on leather, remember that testing is key to achieving the best results. Each leather type might require a slightly different approach, but the potential for stunning outcomes is evident.

Thanks for the video as always !
Gotta warn everyone about printing gold/silver foil DTF film on leather - it could leave excessive foil on leather. Especially on leather with aging effect.
Great tip! That's precisely why we don't currently offer any foil films as they all have that same tendency.
Thanks for the video. I was just wondering about faux leather. Have you guys tried pearl weave material like on a JiuJitsu uniform top? Say like a back patch?
Not yet! but we'll look into it.
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE VIDEOS , FOR THE HAT PRESS LEAVING MARKS HAVE YOU TRIED THE SILICON CLOTH FROM STAHLS TO SEE IF IT HELPS ?
Not yet!
@@DTFSuperstore That is what I also use. Remember to preheat the cloth for the first one on the run. Then always double your normal press time. Works fantastic for my shop.
What could we expect with longevity on these items? Same as a shirt?
Will cold peel film work the same. I have a problem when peeling the film that some print is still stuck on the film and not on the leather.
Yes, it should! the leather may take longer to cool back to room temperature than a shirt.
@@DTFSuperstore do I need to treat the leather before I press. The print sticks to the film.
I need a test on marine vinyl, please!
Great idea. We'll have to give that a try!
Use color graphics.
When you squint its mint
