The context of adaptation depends on your reason/intention for adaptation, your subject, and your learners. When we say adaptation, means in simple terms, we are using a specific material. For instance, I had my creating writing class before and I adapted a rubric published by a reputable publisher to assess my learner’s write up. The proper way of adapting a specific material is by citing it as one of your references, in-text citation is also necessary, and asking a direct permission to the publisher is needed in some cases. For instance, you’re conducting a research study and you would want to adapt a tool to be used for your data gathering. In that case, a direct permission is needed.
