how is nobody mentioning Inferno? that story is easily the best
I LOVE the 3rd Doctor. My favorite Era. Who would have thought that a Earth bound Doctor would have such an incredible run of stories. Hard to pick a favorite episode. Spearhead from Space or Inferno. When the 3rd Doctor regenerated I was really sad. He was so strong..intelligent too of course. He seemed invincible.
Neiru I think it's because one would expect extraordinary and abnormal things to occur in strange places, but because the story is set on Earth in the modern day, that grounds it in reality. It makes the story a bit more believable and a bit more terrifying.
Also, they simply had a great cast with great chemistry and some of the most brilliant people heading on the show (Terrance Dicks and Barry Letts)

The third Doctor is my favorite from the classic series. His sonic screwdriver is definitely my favorite!

Spearhead from Space is probably one of my all-time favourite Dr Who stories. It's no surprise they took the autons for the first story of the 2005 revival, and replicated the iconic scene where the shop-window dummies come to life, break out of their shops and begin gunning people down in the streets of London. The most terrifying Dr Who monster in my mind, the physical special effects used- such as the plastic men being shot work really well, we see parts flaking off as bullets hit them.
The Three Doctors was the first ever classic episode I saw. I really enjoyed it. I also liked Spearhead From Space. Autons were just as creepy then as in 2005
I think the Third Doctor Era was more inspired by the Avengers(Not that one) as much as James Bond
I love all of them, but there's a special place in my heart for the Venusian Lullaby stories--The Daemons, The Curse of Peladon, and The Monster of Peladon.
Actually the Sonic Screwdriver was first featured in the Second Doctor's era ("Fury From The Deep" to be exact), and was again featured in "The War Games". Admittedly it did play a more pivotal role in the Third Doctor's era... Jon Pertwee loved gadgets.
We mention the Second Doctor in the sonic screwdriver section. We focused more on the regeneration/rejuvenation concept in the Second Doctor episode as it's sort of a huge deal show-wise.
As mentioned in previous comments, we focused on regeneration in the Second Doctor special, so we used the Third Doctor special to introduce the sonic to newer viewers.
My favourite Third Doctor adventure is The Sea Devils. The British Navy offering their site and personnel really gave it an epic feel. A great monster, and of course .. The Master.
Gotta love the whole car, hovercraft, speedboat, helicopter, flying car chase scene from Planet Of The Spiders.

John is the first era of classic doctor who I remember seeing
If I remember correctly, there are tapes of all episodes, but some of the color tapes were lost, so some only exist in black-and-white. Apparently, there's a restoration process that can use information on the tapes to possibly create new color copies, but I don't think any have been "restored" as of yet. -Michael
'Death to the Daleks' is probably my favorite classic Doctor Who episode next to Peter Davisons' 'Warriors of the Deep'

The Three Doctors. Stephen Thorne as Omega is just incredible.
The Daemons. Well paced, well written, well acted, it's overall a well-made story. It's worth mentioning that the Daemons (or Demons) is Jon Pertwee's favorite Doctor Who story from his era, according to the 1992 VHS tape called the Pertwee Years.
Just a couple of minor corrections for anyone who's viewing this video now:
The Brigadier is just Brigadier Alastair Gordon etc. Brigadier general is a US rank, not a British one.
And that's a picture of Platoon Underleader Benton (or something), Sergeant Benton's other-universe 'evil' alt-version in "Inferno".

Awww the much loved Jon Pertwee... my favourite Doctor, though the best role Jon ever played was as Worzel Gummidge. Geek fact, Jon Pertwee was still playing the Doctor upto the mid 80's on stage.
My favourite Pertwee is Carnival of Monsters. Good script, good acting, weird shirts, Drashigs and Robert Holmes - what's not to love?

Jon Pertwee is my favourite Doctor and I think more kids my age should watch the classic Doctor Who episodes. Sure, I think the new Doctor Who series' are better but the classic are still absolutely amazing.
As Pertwee is probably my favorite Doctor of modern and classic, this is very tough choice. I would say either Spearhead from Space, Inferno, The Sea Devils, Carnival of Monsters, or The Time Warrior.
Fathers Day. It was that episode that really got me into Doctor Who.
I've seen every Third Doctor story except The Ambassadors of Death and Inferno. I still need to watch those. I love the Third Doctor. He was a badass with his martial arts stuff. And two of my favourite companions come from his time, Jo Grant and Sarah Jane Smith.

Of what I've seen I’d say that Spearhead from Space is my favourite from Pertwee.
Best Doctor, best writers, best stories, best companions
I'm not quite old enough to remember Pertwee and haven't seen many re-runs, but he was quite good in "The Five Doctors." Three Doctors in 1973, Five Doctors in 1983... I would love to see Three Doctors in 2013. Eccleston is on the record as against coming back, so I'd love to see McGann, Tennant and Smith.
I love The Green Death and The Time Warrior - Jo's final story and Sarah Jane's first.
Inferno had me on the edge of my seat. It has to be my favorite.

Inferno is amazing. Easily my favourite Doctor Who story of all time.
I'd say the best Pertwee episodes are Spearhead, Inferno, Mind of Evil, Day of the Daleks, Planet of the Daleks and The Time Warrior.

My two favourite stories from the 3rd doctor era are "Ambassadors of Death" (best story of season 7 by a large margin! IMO...) and "Carnival of Monsters" from season 10, a beautifully witty story written by Robert Holmes (of course).
I like quite a few third Doctor adventures but my personal favorite is the Curse of Peladon. A fun mystery where the usual suspects are not the culprits.

I loved "The three doctors", it was fun to see Hartnell again.
The Brig first appeared the web of fear a 2nd doctor story. Nicholas Courtney first appeared as Bret Vyon in the daleks masterplan a 1st doctor story. The Brig also is in the 1st doctor short story the gift as well as the 10th doctor comic The Warkeepers Crown. The Brig also appeared in the spinoff the Sarah Jane Adventures
I completely forgot about them. That's the problem with 50 years of Doctor Who is that I can't ever remember everything.

The sonic screwdriver was introduced much earlier but was mostly used as a screwdriver.
Favourite? Inferno without a doubt. And The Green Death since that was my first ever Doctor Who episode ever.
The Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart & the 8th Doctor do have a very brief scene together. it was during the infamously bad Eastenders charity episode Dimebsions in Time. My favorite series of the 3rd Doctor is Time Warrior.

Depictions of regeneration and its processes are pretty inconsistent over the course of the series, so there's no definite answer there.

For Jon Pertwee I have only two of his episodes: Day of the Daleks and Planet of the Spiders, Tom Baker I have Genesis of the Daleks, The Sontaran Experiment and Robots of Death, For Peter Davison I have Earthshock, Resurrection of the Daleks and The Five Doctors, Colin Baker: Revelation of the Daleks and Trial of a Time Lord, Sylvester McCoy: Remembrance of the Daleks and the Curse of Fenric. I don't have any stories for Doctors 1 + 2 but I plan to get some as well as more for the other doctors

My favourite is 'Terror of the Autons',that is also my all time best Doctor Who episode!
Diana also really wanted a chance to be the Doctor at some point. There haven't been any lady Doctors, and Diana looks good in red piping.
Spearhead from Space, Inferno, Terror of the Autons, The Dæmons, The Sea Devils, The Three Doctors(the first story I saw) and The Time Warriror are my favorites from Pertwee's era. Pertwee isn't my favorite Doctor, but his era is probably the strongest story wise in my opinion.
Just to say reverse the polarity of the neutron flow. is said to be his "goto phrase" when in actual fact it was mentioned twice (if you count the 20th anniversary) so in actual fact its wasnt his goto phrase....get it right guys!
We had some help from The Umpteenth Doctor on that front, thankfully.
Gallifrey wasn't mentioned by name until the Third Doctor era.

The Daemons is one of my favorite 3rd Doctor serials.
My favorite has to be The Three Doctors or Terror of the Autons. 3 is in a constant battle with 7 for my second-favorite Doctor. My favorite is 11.
My favorite Third Doctor episode was The Time Monster. It's funny and a bit cheesy, but it gets me in the feels at times.
My favorites were "Inferno" (which I'm surprised you didn't pick), "The Curse of Peladon", and "The Sea Devils". Loved the swordfight.

Cool episode, but the Sonic Screw driver first appears in War Games the last seral of the 2nd doctor.
My favorite 3rd doctor story isn't The Green Death (which is a fan favorite) but actually Invasion of the Dinosaurs. I thought it was interesting and creative.
Pertwee's son Sean is going to play Alfred Pennyworth in the new show "Gotham". I never saw Sean before his still photo for this series but I could tell right off the bat (no pun intended..maybe) but I was like Holy Shit it's the 3rd Doctor, they look so much alike it's scary :P
Sean Pertwee also occasionally shows up on Elementary as Lestrade and he's fantastic in his episodes there. Jeremy Irons has some proper competition when it comes to playing Alfred!
Just to note: Sean Pertwee has on a number of occasions been seriously considered in the role of The Doctor. The first time was a rumor that he was going to be the 8th Doctor in the 1996 movie. Also, following the 9th Doctor's departure, he was being lobbied for the role.
That would be awesome as hell.

'The Daemons' is great, 'The Three Doctors', 'The Sea Devils', 'The Green Death', 'Invasion of the Dinosaurs', 'The Time Warrior' -the first Sontaran &Sarah Jane(sigh...) story, 'Planet of the Spiders (his exit) and 'Planet of the Daleks'-a great Cyberman story! Bookwise, try 'The Scales of Injustice', 'Amorality Play', 'Last of the Gadarene' by Mark Gattis and 'The Eye of the Giant'.

Terror of the Autons, The Three Doctors and The Green Death are great Pertwee (i love most of his stories though). For the 2nd Doctor Tomb of the Cybermen is a classic and iconic one that the new series tries to reference visually all the time. What episodes have you seen already?

River isn't a proper Time Lord, she's human-plus, partially due to being born in the TARDIS, partially due to some after-market tweaks on her by Madame Kovarian's forces. There isn't an evolutionary link between humans and Gallifreyans as they are separate races with different evolutionary origins (though some spin-off media implies that Time Lord co-founder Rassilon purged a good chunk of the non-humanoid species from the universe in a bout of xenophobia). -Michael

Favorite third doctor stories of mine would have to be everything from season 8 except colony in space
Good selection, kinda a 'best of' (though Planet of the Spiders is a loooong story lol). I'd really recommend Tomb of the Cybermen for Troughton, and i've actually really gotten into Hartnell stories recently, they're a lot of fun and actually date far better than many of the later ones, when i was younger i never gave them much of a chance but they're brilliant! 'The Romans' is a genuinely hilarious story to watch, and the 1st Doctor is on exceptional form in it.

Inferno is far superior to everything [I was disappointed in the lack of mirrorverse goatees :P]. I also really like Carnival of Monsters because it's fun.
And The Three Doctors because, y'kno, Two is my favourite and any chance I get to see him is awesome
Ah i learned something new today. i kinda got the idea that river was time lord ish when she was able to transfer her remaining regenerations to the doctor if she wasnt time lord dna encoded wouldnt the doctor be unable to recieve them proper seeing how the genetics between the two are only a tad bit the same? or is the 8th doctors confession of being half human canon???
