Since the game is very Ghibli inspired, why not look at how Ni No Kuni did their system? Have characters give grunt or laugh or something before a softer plop text sound effect plays.

gotta love all of the 'day in the life of an indie game dev' videos where 80% of the time is spent not working on the game. i promise you, no one cares
