Also known as Cha siu bao, it can be steamed or baked. A Hawaii favorite that I grew up with as a child, sold by small mom & pop shops and what we call in Hawaii "the manapua truck" ! Before the times of gourmet food trucks, the original food truck could be found in Hawaii. You would find asian fusion delights such as fried noodle, pork hash, won ton, rice cake, and even fried chicken !! Join me as I show you how to make baked manapua !! Visit my facebook page / nalaniskitchen for this and other local favorite recipes !

When I worked on the bridge over Kipapa Gulch on Oahu, we worked through heat, rain, wind, and storms. But the whole job stopped when the manapua man's truck arrived each day. Break time started whenever he got there with his delicious manapuas..
Enjoying manapuas is one of my best memories of Hawaii. And now, I can try making my own, thanks to your great video. Thanks ! ! !

Omg I have been looking for this video for years! This video was what I started with making my personal manapua recipe that I lost a long time ago! I can finally start to rebuild my recipe! Thank you so much for still having this video up!

I have been looking for MONTHS for a manapua recipe that shows me how to make the sauce you put in after the meat is cooked, and you are the ONLY one that laid it all out so clearly. On top of that, your ingredients are simple and tasty. Thanks so much for posting this!

I just finished cooking it and it smells delicious ! Thanks for this wonderful recipe. I wouldn't have thought of holding the dough in my hand while filling it, but I found out it greatly reduces the risk of tearing it.

Thank you for the sharing. I so wanted to find some one that would take the time and show how to do it all. This was so awesome to watch. I know how to make it now. Thank you again. I am so going to do this one day soon.

Oh man I miss Hawaii! I ate Manapua on a daily basis when I was stationed in Kaneohe. I couldn't get enough. Manapua, and Musubi. I could live off that stuff lol

Joseph I am surprised at you! Here I thought you were top shelf man and now you are talking about your personal sexual activities with these two young virgins, Manapua, and Musubi like they were some sort of fruit cocktail or something. You should be ashamed of yourself, EX-Sailor! Have you anything to say in your own defense??????

Well you didn't have to be so direct about it. Okay with lack of any further evidence, I've spoken to The Great 8 and they've decided to let you slide, "This Time"! So by the by, what s the recipe? Maybe I can substitute some of this wretched looking dead crap in Texas and make something that will look like Bella and Lagosi but put me out of my Texas sized misery!

The recipe is in the video bro. I just got back from Texas a few weeks back from a Job I was doing. We were working in Wharton and Bay City at the generating station.

Joseph Germany IS the vid you sent along showing both recipes? I'd seriously like to watch them. My doctor has me on a diabetic diet and anything to challenge his authority and control over me, even if it is just watching a cooking show is good for me!

Mahalo! My husband has been waiting for me to learn how to make these. Thanks to you I now have all the tools to do so. It looks O so ono. This may sound a little bizarre but could I steam these as well using this recipe, he loves the ones from circle K? I am not sure if they would come out the same. I just really love your recipe. We live on mainland and I am a hauli. lol

These look amazing! I can't wait to try the recipe - manapua are a bit hard to come by in New Hampshire!
I was wondering why you use chicken instead of pork for these? Aren't these buns traditionally made with pork?
    Mahalo!!

Sure it's known as MANAPUA,but you have plain black sugar and char siu,but it's also steamed as the CHINESE PEOPLE make it here to and it costs 1 dollar and I buy it in CHINA some are good and some are not. Depends where you go

We’ve all sinned and cannot get into heaven if we’re corrupted by sin. Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself so that whoever ask forgiveness will be forgiven of sin. If you put your faith in Jesus and are willing to turn from sin you will be saved from hell.🙏🏼
