for anyone wondering, youre allowed to film these types of dances because theyre social dances. however, the actual kachina dances that some of you are talking about are not allowed to be filmed because its sacred and meant for a specific event.
Nice dancing and thank you the information when you can or cannot video. Been there one time during guess was a social dance my nephew had a coworker/friend with your tribe. Lots of respect nice.
@Jessica L Kachina/Katsina are the messengers between the Hopi people and the spirits of nature. They visit the Hopi people in the form of dancers who embody the Katsina and convey prayers for rain and peace to the spirits who control the earth. I'm not a Hopi so I ask a member of the Hopi people to explain this better. If you want to think in Catholic terms, they are much like saints. The people you see in this video are not Kachina. Look up Kachina Doll and you can see what they look like.
My father came from a Hopi father and a Navajo mother, and I remember being mesmerized by kachina as a child. I lost him last year and just miss him so much. This makes me very homesick.
Hello Martin. Thank you for this very nice and interesting dance Hopi. I never seen this dance. I love Native American people Indans, music, cultura, tradicion. God bless Native people Indians. Best regards from Poland. 👍😊💖🇵🇱

This looks like the middle village plaza on 1st mesa. If it is, then there's an alley behind who ever taped this. I'm Chippewa/Sioux from Minnesota. My mom was an RN in Keams Canyon in '86 and '90. We used to watch kachina dances in this plaza in the summer. I saw my first Home Dance in Walpi in the summer of 1986. I see part of Waves house in the beginning.

this a social dance but this one was a dance for our brother and the people that are losing family so that way the animals will help them and was not to be on social media but people don't listen

I'm usually at Jemez Pueblo on Christmas when the animal dancers come down out of the hills at dawn. Rona has taken this away. Bleak Christmas without my friends, dancing and Christmas breakfast. 😥😥😥

I have a question - are the kachinas/kachina dances allowed to be drawn or painted? I'm working on a project and I want to get it right :)
Yes, Understood,

When I turn this on I can smell the juniper smoke, had the privilege to observe Hopi dances back in the late 80s
👃Now, I have a scent to go with the visuals. I'm Apache (San Carlos).
Ah, yes, juniper and pinion smoke! So wonderful. Thanks for mentioning it. 🤙

Amazing all the steps and moves they remember, I wouldn’t be able to last 60 seconds.
Because they train every night and getting wipped by the kachinas if they make a mistake

Right on brothers!
I am waiting for those scary ogres, the ones that carried saws and machetes, they were trading dead mice for children.
You can’t record actual Kachinas it’s disrespectful in our culture

U aren't supposed to "dress like them' katsinas are spirits, you don't depict them as people, it's disrespectful
Donde están estos hopissss
Estábán mass Norte death Flagstaff,Arizona
Yo estoy en flagstaff y hopi
U can record but u must ask first
I have always been told you are not supposed to photograph or video the dances.
That is very true,I'm half Hopi and that has always been said..."But" guess their rules or laws change.
This was a social dance, but yes there are certain events that should not be filmed
