Pianist, author, and local weatherman Jeremy Siskind describes three different positions that jazz pianists commonly use in their left hands and describes how to apply them to repertoire.
I will need to revisit this often. I have been groping toward these kinds of techniques but my thinking is often fuzzy due to lack of experience. This crystallizes a lot of things.
Yay! I’m happy to hear it’s helping you gain clarity!
Thanks very much dear Jeremy!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Wonderful examples.
Thank you, Eric! I’m so glad you liked it!
Another great video and wonderful supplement to your books. Thanks so much.
Thanks very much, Greg! I'm so glad you dig it!
FANTASTIC lesson!
Yay, I’m glad you like it, Nick! Enjoy!
I love your books! They are super helpful!! The best
Awesome! Thanks, Anastasia!
Great triple lesson! Now please a simple blues accompaniment for us beginners/intermediate, or if you have already a video on that, could you please share the link? Thanks 🙏
Let me think on that, Francesco! Thanks for the suggestion!
Love you much
Aw shucks! Thanks, humble mai!
Thanks for highlighting these three left hand positions for jazz piano, Jeremy. I had essentially learned these positions on different occasions before but hadn't really systematized the information. Definitely helps to keep all this in mind during practice sessions and to improve jazz piano performance abilities.
What software are you using to show the notes of what you are playing live?
My pleasure, Mark! I’m glad it helps! I’m using chordie to display the notes.
Which book covers improvisation as you’ve been showing us?
Both books in the jazz piano fundamentals series have improvisation exercises embedded in every unit.
Your voice is really hard to hear in this video. Much lower in the mix than the piano.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll try to get that mic closer to my face and maybe even boost the gain a little!
I believe that although it is especially problematic in this video, most of the piano UA-cam channels have this problem. There have to be at least two different microphones (for piano and voice). The video has to edited to provide balance between these two. The lessons on Tonebase are much better in this respect although their live streams are terrible. I started to learn from Jeremy on Tonebase and I am continuing using Playing Solo Jazz Piano book (I am not that much into following backing tracks). Thank you Jeremy.
too much waffle
Struggling w/ Real Book left hand voicing when score/lead sheet calls for chord whose notes fall outside key signature. What am I missing here? To accidental or not accidental - that is the (my) question😅
Does your book cover this issue?
@@grizzlymartin1 I can tell you here that key signatures do not affect chord symbols. Cmaj7 is the same chord regardless of what the key signature is. This does get discussed in my book, "Jazz Piano Fundamentals (Book 1)"
