I had some downtime on a trip to mke in 2001, I went to this mall and was amazed that it was so empty so I took some video, out of nowhere a security guard threatened me saying no videos, I complied and put my camera back in the car. When I went back in the same guy had me arrested, I actually spent 9 hours in jail for doing nothing. Hate to say it but I'm glad the mall died.
I used to gripe about people like you, trespassing, touching everything that isnt yours just gotta mess with stuff. Advance to today, where malls around me are shutting down, and i have good memories of being there. I get it now fellas. Film what ya can.
I think the major issue with modern day Northridge is the fact that the current property owners aren't American. Now before someone gets on a soapbox, just hear me out. When someone is either a native of the state or an American, there's a higher likelihood that they'll contribute more to the local economy as well as make the proper investments to make something prosper. When you have foreign nationals (which is who the company belongs to and the property currently in the hands of) that own a property like Northridge, they are not beholden to anyone. The times that the city of Milwaukee has tried to get the company into court to fine them or force them via injunction to tear down the derelict mall always ends in failure whether it be the representative showing up late or just ignoring city ordinances costing the locals lots of taxpayer dollars just to drag them into court which there is only so much you can do when they're in another country (so much easier to do with the US Marshalls when they're a citizen of the US). I can't say what the motivations of the company are, but they certainly haven't had any positive impacts on the community that Northridge is located in. Compare Northridge with its sister mall Southridge. Where Northridge is a dilapidated hellscape, Southridge and the surrounding area are thriving. What is it that the city of Greenfield is doing alongside with Southridge that's working in the age of Amazon shopping that Northridge and its city aren't? My money is on the property management company.
I grew up 15 miles from there, shopped there in high school & college in early 80's. It was a beautiful mall. Thanks for bring back good memories! So sad to see it like this.
I’m planning on taking a visit to this place soon for a video. Is there anything I should watch out for? Also, awesome video. Urbex in Wisconsin is very hard since the city tears them down usually right away, so I’ve done mainly storm drain tunnels but I want to see more buildings.
"Great video of this mall!!!" 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️ I'm from Chicago but I live in Rockford, Illinois I seen lots of videos of this mall though. Since Rockford is right at the stateline but Milwaukee is way north east from me but I seen many videos here on UA-cam of this mall and I seen it in all.of it's many forms at being a UA-cam Urban Explorer and it's so sad to see this mall like it is in now. ☹️☹️☹️
Even in ruins, what a beautiful place. I can imagine how amazing it was in its heyday. I grew a up in northern Michigan, without hardly any malls, but the few we did have a good hour away were only one story. Having a place like this when I was a kid would have blown my mind. As a kid from the 80’s and 90’s (born in 1979), malls were in their golden age when I was growing up, and I loved them SO much. In the last 10 to 15 years it’s been absolutely surreal for me (and that’s putting it very lightly) to see malls dead, abandoned, or completely demolished. In about 1985 when I was a little kid, that idea was totally inconceivable to me. Like saying that Disney World had been demolished and was just empty land or something. I really wish malls like this could come back, but I think with changing tastes, technologies, and economy, they likely never will. Just so sad.
In the late 80s I used to walk with my friends to the strip mall that was right south of Houghton, MI. It was visiting a mini oasis in the middle of nowhere. I got a bigger kick out of that than visiting the 4-story Mall of America several years later. Can't even explain why, just. something magical about being there. And the arcade was super fun
@@sidv192 I think we all had places like that. I won’t lie, I did absolutely love malls. But I lived in such a small town in central Michigan, that the nearest one was over an hour away. But we had a very very simple putt-r-golf place by our fairgrounds, and it had a small arcade with outdated games mostly from the 70’s. I’d go there sometimes, and it was a pretty fun, but surreal place. It felt kind of liminal at times, and I might be the only one there.
Instead of demolishing these malls, refurbish them and make them into homes for the homeless. Instead of spending our tax money on Ukraine which is a political nightmare, charity begins at home, this could help a lot of people get back on their feet and clean up the streets. Just a thought.
Doesn't it sometimes get creepy AF to you? I feel all sorts of bad vibes in these abandoned places! Not surprised that next time, you'll meet something paranormal.
This has been incredible to watch. I've been watching a few of your videos here lately, and I think they're very well put together! I'm happy I subscribed 🤘
They just announced a mall closing in 2 months here in Springfield Massachusetts that I grew up going to and has always saved me on Christmas eve for last minute shopping...
Excellent job Rick! I have seen several Northridge videos, but this one really stands out! One mall that I would like to see you do if you can get access is The Esplanade.
These malls should be transformed into high end condos, including an indoor city with restaurants and office spaces. Warehouse spaces for mail order companies, indoor parking. The outside spaces can be dog parks, common outdoor space for bike and walking trails.
I lost my virginity in a movie theatre projection booth at age 17 to the gorgeous married manager who asked me to stay late and give her a hand. Good times!!!
I was 12 when the mall opened even though we lived 25 minutes away we went every couple of months while my girls were young I took them. So it was fantastic place to go my brodesmaids bought their dresses at the Vanity store in 1982. I miss it used to love Farrelsl ice cream. Supposedly they were to begin this year. Was a fantastic place to go during its time. Thank you!
I built quite a few stores in this mall in my younger days, starting out. And I hung out there as a kid. I know it inside and out, and it's pretty sad to see what happened to it. Regardless of what the presented reasons always are, the mall died as a result of the "clientele" that preferred loud stupid music and 100% discounts.
With affordable housing so impossible to find across the country, it would be smart to see investors buy these dead malls and turn them into residences.
Yeah, who can afford to live in something like that? The lack of money is why the vendors left. Do you really think that people living there are going to get paid to live there? You’re off your rocker.
*Great job on the video.* It must have been nerve racking looking around for those alarms that *"may"* go off. There will never be anything like going to a mall. *This lazy bull we have today ordering everything on Amazon and the like is never going to be like actually going out with family, friends and shopping like that.* This world is getting worse by the minute and it's abandoned places like this that prove just how lazy and pathetic this world is.

Loved the content!! So sad that malls are becoming a dying breed. Spent my teens in lots of malls.
The Whole North Side of Milwaukee Wisconsin, is a Ghost Town for real, because The Best Buy Store 🏬 that use to be A Cross The Street Closed in 2009.
All of the best buy stores seem to be closing ASAP ..

As a native from WI and having this Mall so close to home, I have to say Good Job on this Rick. One of the better Northridge videos on UA-cam.
Thank you and more mall and mansion videos to come .

I honestly hope the mall stays at least for my lifetime...I enjoy seeing it when I drive by, thinking back on the memories
SouthRidge is in Greendale 20 miles away. They were never competing with each other.

They let them rot vacant. Most are torn down or refurbished or repurposed
Oh this was amazing..the party they did for all the kids

Guys you really think the alarm still on ?
Someone cut the wire but it could be on again.

You seem to be forgetting one thing. That takes money. Where’s all the money coming from? The lack of money is the reason they closed.
It’s in a low income area.. that would never work. If anything it should be restored to back as a mall.

everything smashed up now
Yes
I always think of what once was.
same
Why whisper
Good thing the Retro Decade Revival Project is gonna reverse the damage and restore the mall to its former glory.
Can't they just bulldoze the place
The cost of demolition would run into the millions, probably more than the property is worth. The owners likely don't want to pick up the tab.
The City of Milwaukee has been granted ownership of this eyesore. It is getting preped for being razed.
I wanna explore that

Yes it did!

Just demolish it. Also, social media for children is not empowering, it’s just making them prey.

Thank you very much! I'm not sure ATM, but I got it from epidemic sound off the 80s section.
