I think that a lot of times we just miss the point. It's not a question of if there's a god or not, if there's evidence or not. It's a question of: if there's a god, he's a bad god and an incompetent one. That's more important than getting proof of his existence, as this incompetence can be proven.

Apologists love to complain that atheists set an impossible standard to accept the existence of god. Not so. A very simple experiment would convince me. It goes like this: Ask god in faith what number I'm thinking of. If you get it right on the first try, I'll believe.
Now what I'm asking god does many times in the bible to convince unbelievers, so it's a reasonable request.

Well presented arguments, with enough ridicule to which we should be considering the evidence given by the Christian Apologetics. As Brian points out in all the time that the concept of this particular deity has been around the best evidence they have come up with is "If this deity exists, then I know it exists, as the evidence is plain to see all around me". The only other way the evidence presented is "Well if there isn't a god, then how are we here".

If the cause was refraction the spectrum of the background star, the one being 'refracted', would change showing the absorption of whatever material was doing the refraction, and this doesn't happen. So no, not refraction, just gravity.

Wouldn't Jesus still be in hell paying for all the sins of the Christians he supposedly saved from his father's wrath? They always depict Jesus as being in heaven with God. If he is in heaven, what was the sacrifice/atonement thing about? According to my understanding of the Bible, his body was tortured for 6 hours before he died on the cross and was buried by Joseph of Arimathea. So, Christians are in a tizzy about Jesus being tortured for 6 hours in punishment for EVERY Christian's sins. Then, within 3 days, his body disappears from the tomb and he is seen walking around again. And, depending on what gospel you read, tells you how fast he ascended to heaven to be with his Dad.
Yet, the people who weren't given enough evidence to believe in Jesus are EACH supposedly in hell for an ETERNITY paying for the same type of sins the Christians were doing on Earth. How is that fair?

It should be so easy for an omnipotent being to have more than "candidate evidence" for his bronze-age adventures...
That is why the whole crucifixion and resurrection plot, makes no strategic sense at all, both from Roman perspective and from a God that wants to show-off his power in conquering (at least his own) death.
From the Roman side, if they'd have feared that the disciples (not a band of viking mercenaries) could steal the body, then do not take it down, do not give the body to a conspirator, do not let conspirators to prepare the body for burial, do not let them hide the body in a hole where you cannot see it!
Rather, put some spikes around and let it rot on the cross for a month!
From the "divine revelation" perspective, you do not want the most significant magical event in history, to be witnessed by cold stones! You too would want witnesses, you could even have used the Emperor (before the edict of Thessalonica), inviting him to the front row, to be the first convert after you raise!
Instead, it is all concealed and mysterious, just like every other concocted supernatural claim.

Actually, everything below 500 Hz or thereabouts seems to have just disappeared from your voice, so it's far from "bassy." Together with some weird compression it makes your voice sound oddly nasally and even scratchy at times. It can't be because of your high voice, since I don't usually hear this on other high-voiced UA-camrs.

I see belief in God as one of many available tools that we humans can use to incorporate ideas from the past with living in the present. Of course the traditional God of religion is silly and a product of people's desire to explain the world around them and to hold on to traditions from the past. But, as the "God of the gaps" becomes less and less, I think a God of imagination and wishful thinking may serve (some of us) as a useful metaphor for how we can cope with our experiences in the light of tradional thinking. Whether I choose to use metaphors from Zeus or Odin, I find this sort of fantasy perfectly benign and useful. I have plenty of fantasy ideas and as long as I know I am merely playing with ideas, I am not concerned that some people aren't just playing - they are in earnest - for them God exists and they are sinners. I know that the idea of God and sin are just so much BS but I like the idea that I can still play the religion game with phrases such as "thank God" or "God willing" etc. So where's the harm? Most of us enjoy Santa Claus and the Easter bunny - why not add one more fantasy - God?
