Ok you sold me on it, like the ak-47 of regulators! great review!

Great review as always! One thing I noticed though, in a cold water configuration, your hoses usually attach to only ONE side of your first stage and run downwards, so the firststages sit sideways on the tank, that would also fix your space problem.

Thank you for your feedback! I'll be experimenting with the hose routing in the future as my relationship with the regs evolves.

Did you know that the Armed Forces version is actually black! Hard to beat that! And I know which song I would be humming every single dive with a black regulator...

Nice video. The rotating turret was previously only available with Apeks in their DST first stage. It also has a fifth port. These features made it very popular for sidemount diving due to better hose routing. This MTX-R looks like a great upgrade for cold water tech diving. My only concern is how they feel. What the Work Of Breathing is like, etc, without the venturi and adjustment knob.

Set your XTX to pre-dive, and screw in the cracking resistance. That's how the MTX-R breathes. Alternatively, you can get the MTX-RC if you want the Venturi and adjustable resistance.
In all fairness, the real work of breathing occurs at great depth (35m and beyond), and this first stage is overbalanced, so you'll get plenty of air from this reg.

    They are gorgeous regulators.
I have a set of the MTX and MTX-V in the original black.
Right now it's set up on a single first stage in a long hose configuration.
First stage is upside down (with the endcap pointing upwards).
The primary second stage is on a 210cm long rubber hose and comes out the 5th port.
The secondary second stage is on a 65cm rubber hose and a necklace, and comes out over the right shoulder.
The LPI comes over the left shoulder.
The SPG is on the left (only the SPG, no depth gauge or compass).
The transmitter is on the right on a 15cm hose.
I don't have a drysuit yet, so no inflator hose for that one at the moment.
The second first stage is in my regulator bag, should I need it for twins or sidemount.

I have a question: how does the first rotating first stage work?

  • @cj4984

gotta respectfully question the lack of gauges if you’re going through the expense of a second valve and first stage for the sake of safety

He has full redundancy. He has the HP hose with gauges on one 1st stage, and an A.I. transmitter on the other.
