100% Very good looking shoe. I'm sure they'll have some nice looking color options if you don't like the light color. Personally I prefer lighter colors due to the sun factor where I'm typically running. As you can see, very exposed, can get very hot, and it's only April.
Thanks for sharing the size and fit in detail! It'd be even better if you could press the toebox with your fingers to show where your toes are in the shoes like The Run Testers do in their videos. Judging from the few shots where your toes move and lift the upper a bit, it seems that there is less than 0.5cm extra space in the toebox. If that's the case, it probably would be a bit of a problem when running down hill on a steep slope, eh?
I'll do that in the next one, thanks. For me when I say true to size (for a trail shoe), I have a full thumbs-width in front of my toes. So when I flex the forefoot, the toes get closer to the front, but do not touch. I can go with slightly less space for shorter distances, but generally I like the full thumbs width for general use and especially long racing. With this shoe I'd say it's not necessarily the physical space in front of the toes that would be the issue on steep slopes. Foothold would be a bigger issue, as the midsole is quite soft, and the upper is too. It's not a super locked down fit. You'd have to manage steeps and/or technical terrain based on your experience level.
It's all highly dependent on foot volume. Most generally prefer more space for longer ultras, for example 20+ hrs where you're likely dealing with some foot swelling, and also you might want to wear thicker socks, or double layer as I do.
@@RowOfMushyTiT That's great! I hope you found my description of the fit helpful and accurate. Everyone is different so I try to give some details to help people judge based on their own personal fit. Speaking of - one shoe that comes to mind with a similar fit in the forefoot is the Speedgoat. That one I find even a little bit more narrow and "squeezy" in that area . I've always have trouble with the SG fit, but the Zegama feels just on the right side of "ok" for my foot. Mafate Speed 4 is also good option - you can get a nice precise fit with its upper.
Alright so I had some time with v2 and I gotta say I think the midfoot did feel a tad bit more snug than v1. If that was all I probably would’ve kept it but the heel felt way more bulky and protruded than v1. Overall was kind of just an odd fit that didn’t feel as snug as the original. Sucks though because the foam definitely felt a bit more balanced
Another great review looks like a beautiful day! Nike always make stylish looking shoes just wondering why can’t Nike get the weight down Zoom X is supposed to be light maybe it’s the carrier foam wrap or too much Zoom X I felt the Ultraflys should’ve been lighter also any thoughts Mike ?
They don't seem to focus on stripping down the uppers as they do with their road shoes IMO. There's a few elements in this one that seem a bit excessive. I'll have more details in the full review. The Ultrafly I'm not really sure, the upper seems lighter, but still nothing like a Matryx upper for example. Nike trail shoes always seem to have multiple layers in their uppers.
@@AlbieDay Good to know, thanks for posting the info. We'll probably have a full review out within a week or so. I just posted a wet rock test video to IG
Brilliant review thanks. I just have one question. In terms of the narrowness, if you were to compare these with the standard width speedgoat 5, which one would you say is narrower? I wear 8,5 speedgoat 5 and it feels snug to the sides but the material has some stretch to it so it is bearable and I can run in them with no issues
I think there's a bit more "give" to this upper - it's not as secure as the Speedgoat 5. Definitely a different shoe. If your concern is narrowness, and SG5 is ok for you, Zegama 2 should be fine.
I tried the Zegama 1 but just couldn't run it. First shoe I have ever ran in that felt, as I would describe, as dead. Like they were just sapping my energy. Not sure if 2 will be any better for me...
Do you think it was just the weight? If so, these would probably be the same. Or the lack of flex? I mentioned in my written review that V1 seemed to have a particular flex point up front, which I and others felt made it a bit difficult to turn over. V2 has a smoother rocker forward of the midfoot which rides a lot better.
@@MikeP-BoiseLife I just don’t know. They just felt dead to me. I will stick with the Kiger 9’s. Thanks for the reply and keep up the great work, love your videos!
Question: did you try the Zegama 1? I'm curious how you find the midfoot/low volume fit in the 2 compares. I've got a nice and wide foot and struggle with fitting in many trail shoes. I found the Z1 to be oddly great in fit if i sized half a size up. In particular that midfoot area really fit nicely. I know you mentioned this one felt snug and had to keep laces loose to avoid a hot spot lockdown but is it drastically different than the first one?
Check out the latest video an also the written review where I give some more details. There's more comp details in the written review. Relative to V1, there's no loss of space in V2, perhaps even a bit more compliance in the upper material. If V1 worked for you, fit will be no problem with V2.
Looking forward to testing a Nike shoe with Vibram. I know it’s in the ultra fly, but this looks like a workhorse shoe. Thanks for the review. Where are you located? Cheers from Calgary, Canada.
Definitely a workhorse shoe with all that ZoomX. Add in Vibram outsole durability and should get tons of miles out of these. I'm in beautiful Boise, Idaho!
Thanks for the review, it was a big help especially the forefoot fit! 1. What'd you record this on, a flip-phone? The resolution is terrible. 🤔 2. I'll never know why manufacturers market white trail shoes.
Does that midsole actually feel soft? Lots said the same about the midsole in the v1 but I thought it was quite firm for ZoomX. I know the carrier foam helps with stability but I wasn't impressed with the v1 and ended up selling mine on 😖
Definitely soft feeling - noticeable difference from V1. Nike also mentions that there's slightly more ZoomX, although they don't say how much. I've tested both
Thanks for doing a wet rocks test. Almost no body test this on YT.
Full review is live now on the RTR website - with more extensive wet testing.. will also post some video soon from that testing.

Thanks for telling it’s narrow. I was waiting for this shoe. But just ordered a second pair ultrafly
What I liked about v1 was the precision fit, most Ultra shoes tend to go with a too high volume fit.
