I have a 2015 Polaris 600 AXYS Switchback Adventure with the exact same chaincase. To remove the fluid I use an 80 ml suction syringe with a 3/8" plastic tube attached. Stick the tube into the open fill hole and down to the bottom of the chaincase. Then suction out approximately 300 ml of old fluid. Then like Colin, use the pump head unit to fill the chaincase with new SCL Fluid. Works great and no mess to clean up. But both procedures work great. My 2009 IQ 600 had a bottom drain plug which was ok but like normal after a couple of years I ended up cross threading the drain plug while reinstalling . That caused me lots of grieve. I like this system better. More idiot proof for idiots like me. Happy sledding.
Greeting from Montreal! Thanks for the video. I have a polaris 800 titan XC 2018 and Its time to change my oil. Im not a mechanic at all, but your video teached me how to do it. I hope i remember everything prior to this season!
Whatever Polaris' logic for eliminating the drain plug...I've never known one to vibrate out and dump the oil, but who knows. Anyone have any idea, how many times you can split the case to drain the oil then close it back up before the gasket should be replaced? Otherwise, Colin, excellent, excellent video. Well done, clear, concise, and very much appreciated. Thank you, sir, and happy trails.
hey you're welcome! I put alot of effort into my videos and want to be as detailed as i can. I would say there really isnt a certain amount of times that it can be taken off and then remounted though, as long as you dont over tighten the bolts, let er rip!
Mick Pendy that’s the older version of the chain case unless polaris hasn’t changed the trail model sleds over to the RMK style chain case. Same procedure. You just drain from plug instead of loosening the cover
that is cool Colin... thanks for clarifying. I didn't know what the Axys Assault RMK's didn't have a drain plug. Nice demonstration of how to get the job done. Good luck on your kickstarter!
Both the 3.0 and the 2.6 model has a chain case. I almost never checked mine because of this vid. Maybe that was something with the spring order models?
Mike Flynn ya know, I’m not sure then. I’ve only seen 2.6’s come with belt. Did you buy yours used? Possibly someone swapped tracks over to the 2.6 including drivers
I had a silber turbo a few years ago and overall it was good, sometimes it didnt want to run right and would sputter but seeing alot of my friends with silber setups running great, i choked it up to just installer error from the guy that installed it for me. thats why i like to install things myself so i know its either done right or i can blame myself lol. but I used the clutch kit directly from silber. and yea i had zbroz shocks but i want to try raptor shocks next season.
The 800 SKS has the battery right in front of the chain case and its very much in the way of the bolts and has to be removed first. Strange they didn't put a drain plug on the bottom accessible through the belly pan like other models, this is a real bad design because it took a long time to do this simple job and its a lot messier because the oil hits the inside of the belly pan then drains to a low spot. Anyway thanks again for the advice you were spot on.
Dwight McIntosh yea it kind of baffled me that the PRO chassis had the drain plug and then the Axys did not haha but no problem, I’m going to put out as much content as I can like this that’s helpful 👍🏼
Yea, i noticed it's rivited on my xcr, I went ahead and drilled a hole in the belly pan to drain the oil. Not really sure what the hell polaris was thinking when the built these sleds without a drain plug!!!!
Joshua Ramsey the chaincase holds up to the extra weight of the 3.0. The 2.6 with belt is much lighter weight though. I’ll be going with a 2.6 163 track next year for the lighter weight and the amount of track speed it allows compared to a 3.0
Anyone know if the Switchback Assault Axys chassis has a drain plug on the chaincase or did all of the models in the Axys chassis loose the drain plug?
Dont ever tighten your chain like that, you should be visibly checking that chain while you turn the screw there should be plenty of play not too tight not to loose its common sense, you have filings because your chain is way to tight and its sharpening your teeth, i have 1400 miles on my 16 axys and have never pulled filings like that
Moe Adams this video is done the way Polaris recommends, if you only have 1400 miles on a ‘16 sled I’m not too sure your the expert you’re trying to sound like. Should check your chain tension every year!
@@toddstryker2471 your dilusional buddy its a mountain sled those are mountain miles sorry you dont have the money to have a second sled to beat up around home whats your number maybe ill buy you one
Probably the most overlooked service . Good vid. Only missing torque specs for case cover bolts. 9.5ft lbs. Or 114 in lbs.
I would also loosen the fill plug first before anything to insure it will come out without issues, before you drain your oil

I’m glad I was able to help!!! You’re welcome! Now time for snow! Haha
GREAT video, very well done and a perfect walk through of this process. thank you
Excellent video - it is exactly the information I was looking for and it happened to be the first one I watched it's a WIN!
Dwight McIntosh awesome to hear Dwight!! Glad I was able to help!!
Pro tip, get a good run to warm up the fluid to have it drain quicker.

Just suck the fluid out through the fill plug hole.
Thanks ! Very clearly explained.
you're very welcome!
Good video man.
thank you!
Not sure if it's the same but I have a 2014 Indy 800 and it has a drain plug.
Mick Pendy that’s the older version of the chain case unless polaris hasn’t changed the trail model sleds over to the RMK style chain case. Same procedure. You just drain from plug instead of loosening the cover
OK thanks
Drain plug works great. Nice video though!
Gordon S mountain Axys does not have a drain plug

thanks for the video. very helpful.
anytime Gene! glad I could help!
Great video
thank you kyle!
is the tension procedure the same for a 2016 switchback assault?
What size hex is the drain plug?
Did you spray it out with break cleaner?
Both the 3.0 and the 2.6 model has a chain case. I almost never checked mine because of this vid. Maybe that was something with the spring order models?
Looked into it farther. The 2.6 Pro RMK has a quick drive. But the 2.6 Assault has a chain case.
Mike Flynn ya know, I’m not sure then. I’ve only seen 2.6’s come with belt. Did you buy yours used? Possibly someone swapped tracks over to the 2.6 including drivers
Colin McEvoy No it's new. What you said was true about the pro RMK's but the assault has a chain case on both 2.6 and 3.0
Mike Flynn that makes more sense. Assault is definitely built to take more of a beating. Rails and chassis are much stronger
Colin i order a Sibler turbo what is your experience with it? What clutch kit you are using? I see Zbros shocks i am btw them and Raptor :) thank you

Do it every season

same amount of tension required on a 2017 Pro S??
Yes
Beautiful motorcycle bro :)
How's the oil draining from the belly pan??
The belly pan ends right under the chaincase
Yea, i noticed it's rivited on my xcr, I went ahead and drilled a hole in the belly pan to drain the oil. Not really sure what the hell polaris was thinking when the built these sleds without a drain plug!!!!
Why would the 3.0 vs 2.6 come with different drives? What's the point?
Joshua Ramsey the chaincase holds up to the extra weight of the 3.0. The 2.6 with belt is much lighter weight though. I’ll be going with a 2.6 163 track next year for the lighter weight and the amount of track speed it allows compared to a 3.0
Joshua Ramsey nh
Did it take the whole quart of PCL?
nope, just go to the threads of the bolt hole plug
Anyone know if the Switchback Assault Axys chassis has a drain plug on the chaincase or did all of the models in the Axys chassis loose the drain plug?
yea theres no drain plug on it

Moe Adams oh so you drain the fluid, pull the brake assembly and remove the cover every time to check and tighten your chain?
@@ColinMcEvoy if your tightening your chain more than 3 or 4 times in the life of your sled something is wrong
