  • Panmunjom and the Joint Security Area is the only point along the inter-Korean DMZ at which troops stand face to face.
    In this video, we'll delve into the history of this site, what buildings exist there, why they were built, and why the area even exists at all!

    I highly encourage anyone who found it interesting to read more about the Poplar Tree Incident. It's a lot more complex, a lot more absurd, and a lot more tragic than the summary here.

    I didn't know that there used to complete joint operations of both sides.
    Seeing both Korean armies' soldiers going around mixed up like that felt like some weird RTS game mess.

    can you do a video about technology and computers (what types of computers they have, how their internet is set up etc) and such in the dprk. i remember reading on wikipedia that the dprk actually submits emojis to unicode and one of those was the coffee emoji ☕️ which i find interesting
    i’ve heard a lot about “red star os” an apparent dprk linux distro that people say “is the only operating system allowed in north korea” but you can clearly see the use of windows xp there so i wonder what red star os is all about

    Another video on the operations of Panmunjom would be interesting. For example, if repairs are needed on the buildings that straddle the MDL, how is that arranged ?
    How do the two sides coordinate tourism so that they do not have tourists entering the UN building at the same time? What functions occur within the 4 DPRK buildings that straddle the MD
    ?

    Cool video! It would be very interesting if you researched and made a video about musical education in the DPRK, as in what paths can regular musicians take to become professional ones.

    I might be one of the few who has been to both sides of that border for real. Anyone can walk around that indoor table in one of the blue buildings but I came down from Pyongyang and up from Seoul to visit the border twice. Funny enough coming from the north was like going to any strict border area but coming from south, controlled by USA was the most hysterical border visit ever, worse even compared to when I visited the Soviet satellite dictatorship of Transnistria.

    • @DPRKExplained
      @DPRKExplained  11 місяців тому +17

      I’ve only ever been from the northern side, I’ve heard the southern side is a bit mental

    • @MustardAndFries
      @MustardAndFries 11 місяців тому +6

      To be fair there are many more checks that take place before you get to the border inherently in the north. To be able to get into Pyongyang you need to get an approved visa, provides escorts, approves general travel itineraries, etc. then has additional checks along the way before you get to see the border. The south has less checks entering and traveling in the country so it makes sense that once you got to the border it’d be stricter.

    • @DPRKExplained
      @DPRKExplained  11 місяців тому +9

      @@MustardAndFries It's not so much that - from what I've heard from friends you tend to get shuttled around random shops before and after and sit through some quite intense talks/lectures which seem to be full of rubbish; but that's just what I've heard from a few friends who were forced to wander around an amythyst shop for 25 mins 😁

    • @sudonim7552
      @sudonim7552 11 місяців тому +11

      Both sides tend to make a show of the visit, but from what I've seen of the Southern tours, it looks like a big, loud commercialized spectacle. A very American-style experience if you ask me.
