A lot of fighters are encouraged to take dancing because of the similarities in foot work. You should try boxing and see how you do.

That's what I thought, when I'm already 2 step back and my opponent is still rushing forward I am really looking to land check hook

The right cross and angle cut works wonders adding a check hook when pivoting.

@jellypunk1495 True and I agree, what I'm saying is 2 steps back is already a big exit attempt. If opponent is too aggressive oftentimes my strategies is finding opportunity to land check hook.

One thing I did in some light sparring recently is when my partner got really aggressive I got low and threw a cross to his gut and stepped to his inside to angle around him. I am a bigger dude so I surprised even myself that I pulled it off but it was effective at making him slow down over time. I’m grateful for my experience even if it isn’t much

I did mixed martial arts and though I wasn't directly taught karate some of the other people were taught it because it fit their kind of natural style, I guess. One of the things was actually a little bit of an agility drill. Think of every direction as one of the spokes on a compass. And so you wanna move to the southeast or northwest of your opponent. That could potentially put you in their blind spot. And you throw a stunning strike as you step over. And so we would call out the directions on the compass, and you have to move to that spot, and you use a strike of your choice. You use a finish of your choice. It's slightly different from this situation because we could dive roll, we could roll, cartwheel (Don't cartwheel in the middle of a serious fight, please), etc, whatever you need to do to clear the line of attack of your opponent and to get into a blind spot. I would absolutely recommend that drill for anyone, and you can do it with no equipment. Just pick a focal point. If you need an object there, you can use a chair or whatever you have readily available around the house.

The V dip can also work if needed. As they're coming in you dip down and then come back up to full height while moving slightly forward, and chances are you'll catch their chin/face with the top of your head. Only really advisable in a streetlight or if a fight has gone very dirty though.

I'm usually the shorter guy who has to come forward. So what i do is similar to what qawi used to do, dip to the outside and jab, occasionally springing something different on them. However if someone pressures me back and walks into my range, i shell up behind my high guard, flex my stomach, absorb their shots and try to fire inbetween theirs or right afterwards. Once you crack them a few times they will calm down, but it's a little rough at first

I hate how legit moves that don’t cause more damage than a punch to the face are considered “dirty”. Such as that shoulder barge or stepping on your opponents foot. Why not just stand in front of each other and swing until one guy is knocked out like that don fry vs takayama?

  • @criscris428

no get cornered... and time them they gonna repeat something in the process. time them with a freakin shovel hook to the face. they might not spar you again because that would be a knock down at least if you hit it right with enough power. but what shane saide is what you should do.
