Hermosa Beach cracking down on offroad E-bikes

- The Hermosa Beach City Council held a special meeting Tuesday evening and passed an ordinance regulating off-road E-bikes. E-bikes have exploded in popularity over the last few years, and South Bay residents have recently voiced concern over unruly teenagers riding recklessly on city streets. The teens typically ride together in large groups along the Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach strands near the piers.
KTLA 5's Megan Telles reports. (June 5, 2024)
KTLA 5 News - Keeping Southern Californians informed since 1947.
I'm not surprised, people are taking advantage of the lack of regulations for these bikes, ruining it for everyone
These kids riding emotos not ebikes. They're killing for everyone else.
About time
They’re always complaining if it ain’t gas now it’s electric
It's a crowded area. They should encourage smaller vehicles in California.
Two types of gay in this world and your comment is both
@glenhenry9907 what you just said is the reason why California cannot have a smaller road for the safety of people who participate on the road.

that white ebike is like $12k
Stark Varg or however spelled. Yeah that thing was expensive. Kid did a damn 3 block burnout with it. What did they all expect harrasding all of the local law enforcement and tax payers. They certainly aren't laughing now. I bet most of those bike were bought at luna cycle in El Segundo
Hey Reporter Megan at KTLA 5, please get your facts right!
These are electric motorcycles. These motorcycles that do not have pedals, they are not e-bikes. There happens to be 3 classes of legal e-bikes, that all have pedals. The electric motorcycles and misstating fact by KTLA are giving legal e-bikes a bad name.
EBikes are great! Love seeing all these kid's being active outside with their friends. Just watched 5 girls pass by all smiling and having a good time on theirs's
E-bikes are great indeed. So are analog bikes. These however are not e-bikes.
As a kid growing up in the 90's/2000's, there were still unwritten rules you had to abide by. These entitled kids nowadays, have no rules and boundaries.
“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.” said every generation for the past 2500+ years.
You can register these bikes as a Moped, get a license, register with the dmv, get insurance, get turn signals and side mirrors and you are good to go. They cannot impound them when you do all that.
They absolutely can. Go do donuts on the steps of city hall and watch what happens.
Not true, those bikes have no VIN, are not federally approved for road use and cannot be licensed.
@@JoeS97756depends on what state and township. They let people plate off road vehicles all of the time. Insurance companies will insure just about anything as well. Read up on it. No disrespect at all either
No reason to ban them and ruin it for everyone. Just give tickets when they are riding dangerously. Myself and my children ride ours on the bike paths to get to the hills. We ride safely and dont bother anyone.
Not worried about the housing crisis, homelessness, all of the burglaries? Worried about kids on bikes instead?
People even on a regular bicycles complain, and is E-BIKE, no old school motorcycle,
We used to get in horrible trouble as teens riding Honda 50 and 70cc monibikes on the road. We did it rural and usally just crossing the road or a half block to get to the traiks and off road.
In Denver the Govt is doing something like a $3000 rebate towards e-bike purchases.
Sounds like he’s in the pocket of big oil.
@@_B.C_how is buying an electric vehicle helping gas cars? Wtf
That's crazy people have to control everything people need watch how they driving fast as well and running stop sign as well kids just having fun like you did. You make a deal out of after you collect taxes of them the state. I see a lot of bike on route out and I like to see the kids ridding even the girl have them to. People in the car need to Pay more attention period get off your phones and stop just looking one way. The car worst than the bikes. 💯
These aren't ebikes. There are no peddles on them. Furthermore, they far exceed the 28 MPH limit. These are more so an electric motorcycle.
Gotta love the guy at the beginning recording a "hey check this out, I walked into a news report." On another note, it's pretty bad that parents aren't making sure their kids are being parented. Sad to know a regular e-bike that can go 25mph might seem too tame for the kids... could be worse. Could be an EUC(electric unicycle). Those can go really fast and if you're unlucky the power management will cut out and cause an accident. End of the day, parents really need to pay attention. Especially if they're paying $5,000 for these 🤦♂️
Good THEY R [Truely] Motorcycles and Should Be Treated/tax'ed, as Such. But Not Be Allowed for use in Traffic on Pulbic Streets.
Did you have a stroke?
@@tettazwo9865 Do U want 2 have a Stroke ? LoL ?
So, tax them to look at them in your yard? Wtf
I love ridding motorcycles and e-bikes. These are not ebike are simply electric motorcycles that are not registered or insured. It fits over 750watts and it does not cut off power at 28mph it’s not an ebike anymore and is not an electric motorcycle.
Thats not a bike thats a motorcycle big difference.
Must be a slow news day
The law prohibiting motorized vehicles on The Strand has been 100% Ignored by the flat landers at HPD.
FREE Surrons & Talaria’s that Stark Varge is way to much for a teen his rich parents were tripping lol. 😆
thing is once these bikes are taken away/ banned theyare just going to mod regular ebikes which is way more risky in many ways then they are going to start banning those too
But then they complain when we ride off road trails
How the heck did that’s kid on the white bike get it it’s $13k
Probably has parents, usually kids have adults who raise them and feed them sometimes.
hermosa beach is known to have some of the wealthiest offspring in LA.
Children of the Corn The parents are fully liable for all damages This includes foster parents, adoptive parents, legal guardians or birth parents. . Train your spawn to obey the law and get a job.
Those bikes are awesome I wish I had one
Buy a dual sport motorcycle for same price .
I will check it out 😄
Kids on e bikes or gang members which should we waste resources on?
They are more like scooters or mopeds.
You got to remember these are soft kids. The little rich kids from the beach
Lol they got em in the hood too
You think kids from the beach are soft? which beach? why don't you take up surfing- there's a really nice place in Malaga Cove....
@@sctsh1491 Hermosa is my Beach.. used to go to Manhattan in the 70s when it was a biker Beach.. real cool back then. They are yuppie bars today .. but I know that surfers are always believed there is some kind of tough people. Because they swim in water. It's okay because people have guns and they think they're tough because they have a finger that can pull back a piece of metal.. it's a funny society we live in.. personally I don't believe I'm at some kind of tough person. I'm in all of others who are online who type on keyboards. Some push the buttons real hard
so sad and disappointing these things are so fun and incredible idk why these kids had to ruin everything
Technically not e bikes! these are out of class, light electric motorcycles. No pedals, and over 750 watts of power. Thanks Luna Cycle.
KTLA 5, You're the best! I subscribed because I love your content!
Ay I know half the kids in that group and used to go to school w one
Old spanish old Español is dangerous to the community 🤡
Good! Hope all cities do it.
These are not e-bikes.
Those are not e bicycles. Those are e motorcycles. They calling negative attention to e bicycles and they need to be stopped. These immature adults and punk kids need to be schooled by the authorities. This is one time when I agree that laws need to be implemented that will separate the two genres and let us who ride e bicycles not be punished along with them.
Shoplifting? Ok cool, hey you guys on those bikes??
Stop calling them e-bikes and call them what they are: Electric motorcycles without license, tag, insurance.
Exactly, the news reporters and city officals need to understand that E Bikes must have opertable pedals, The ban should be against E Motorcyles, not E Bikes
motorcycles avg around 600 pounds, these Ebikes avg around 70 pounds. There is a huge difference between the two.
@@martinpalm5 You think that the bike on the video was 70lbs? Try 250.
@@machupikachu1085 I said avg. The majority of them I saw are around 70 to 120 pounds. It depends on how big the battery is. A Surron is around 105 pounds. still no where near 250 pounds, or a motorcycle of 600 pounds.
@@martinpalm5 2:02 that is a full-on electric off road green sticker dirt bike. They are not 100 pounds.
And yes, some of them are. So they should be ignoring street signs and riding without a helmet doing 35mph because they are 'bicycles'?
HANDS OFF OUR BIKES
😂😂 don't give them back
Will people not complain about anything ever?
Those are just as dangerous as motorcycles
Ummm...these are MOTORCYCLES. There are no peddles on these motorcycles. They are way past the 750W limit.
The mean streets of Hermosa. 🤦♂😂😂😂🚲🚲
This will be like Wall-e world very soon.
why would you waste 5000 on an ebike when you can buy a motorcycle or even a car? 🤣
Cause no license and can ride on sidewalk.
They Steal Them
A surron or talaria has more torque than a 125 and weighs half as much. Also very quiet, the ultimate urban ninja bikes.
Because the kids are 12
cause its better in many more ways then not thats why
the fun police strike again!
Meanwhile real crime is on the rise, and we have Karen’s crying over E-bikes!
Get over it and go cover something else
No right to travel without paying the king first.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OFF ROAD VS "ON ROAD" E-BIKE
THE WAY IT LOOKS IS THE ISSUE... BOTH HAVE TWO WHEELS A FRAME AND MOTOR
SIMILAR TO A FULL SIZE WORK TRUCK F-150 VS A FULL SIZE WORK TRUCK F-150 WITH A LIFT KIT AND OFF ROAD TIRES
BOTH THE SAME THING
Off road might be on sidewalk or on dirt grass like golf course ?
to oversimplify things, there are different class e-bikes, plus there are road tires & off road tires and suspension with a larger depth made for jumpjng and irregular terrain. but the ones in the news are e-motorbikes, not representative of actual e-bikes which can be propelled with foot pedals like a traditional bicycle.
not calling them e-motorbikes confuses matters.

The question should be, "what's the difference between an ebike and an electric motorcycle?"
@Rob in your opinion not mine and FDT
What's the difference between a go-cart and a corvette? Both have a motor and 4 wheels.
@cdsersd2d drive a corvette on a go kart track at the same time there are go karts driving on the track, and then you will understand the difference
@@RobertRobert-zh2ez - Try taking an on road ebike and try to do jumps with it. Then you will understand the difference.
They can’t afford real cars, insurance, they why they drive this kind of
tbh they should get a lambo and pay the 5k car payment and 10k insurance
Oh god forbid a teenager ride an e-bike or whatever tf it is. Why do you care so much about other people’s business especially when it doesn’t concern or harm you? Just say you’re miserable and you want others to wallow in your misery too.
Shame on the city and the resident that live in it that are whining. Freedom, freedom Freedom, people.
Freedom to not follow traffic laws and ride 30mph on the sidewalk?
HUH YA..Good Luck EVER Catching me on a E Bike
Wait for it!
