Absolutely well made video! That Kay Silvertone is rather stunning

I had a 1951 silvertone archtop that I gave to my son. He still has it. But it has always baffled me. It has the most unusual fingerboard I have ever seen. It appears to be made of cedar. I say this because it is colored like cedar with red striping. Have you ever seen or heard of this before. I'm stumped, but would appreciate any feedback on this. Thank you. By the way, I really enjoy your channel.

Great video, looking forward to Part 2. Lve the Kay Archtops and enjoy learning the history. I have a N3 and I'd love to be able to figure out what year it is.

I have a Vintage K electric with the Amp plug in on side and 3 toggle switches in the body and a fender looking neck. Have not found any info on the series.

Enjoyed that, i've had a thing about Kays for a long while. I like the elegance of them and they sound nice as well. However i only actually own one Kay, and it's probably the cheapest thing they ever made..!! It's a black LP copy, weighs a ton and has a plywood body..However it does have two quite nice sounding buckers in it..the bridge is evil... It has a truss rod which is busted. But the neck is about right to be fair. Had to replace the electronics and the tuners where hopeless. Intonation is not bad..not perfect but close enough.
    With 6 strings it's bloody awful...but with 3 seasick style..it's awesome..
This thing was given to me around 40 odd years ago and followed me around ever since...although i nearly chucked it in a skip a few times. Mostly it lived in a cupboard with half an inch of dust on it.
Until i saw seasick playing his 3 string trance wonder...Bingo i thought..and it works.
goes to show even a battered old heap can become something useful.
Just don't wanna drop the thing on me foot...!!!

Seasick Steve was here in San Francisco, Ca. some years back, busking out in Height-Ashburey where I used to busk. He was also a Hobo as was I. There is a Video of him surrounded by scruffy old street kids, I had been playing a Epiphone Jazz Guitar Emperour Regent I actually Carried on Freight Trains, from Chicago to Oklahoma and then down to Austin, 2010, in 2012 I turned 62 and am now in a small apartment with 10 God--m Guitars and a Silvertone KayCraft Mandolin. I also was busking in San Juan Capistrano with the Emperour 2007-2009. Everybody calls me 'Boxcar Hobo" Learned Music at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, 1958-1961, I was only 8 Years old it was Roxy Hall Music School special outreach for Elementary kids. I learned Violin and Guitar. And Pete Seeger Hootennanny and Bob Dylan in 1963 made me demand Grandmother Please, trade my Violin for a Guitar. She did.
      Then Johnny Kennedy was murdered.

@@edwardlouisbernays2469 Interesting story. You'll have some experiences to put into your music as well.
I recall Seasick explaining, I think it was in a video somewhere down the line, where he said he'd been a hobo, a bum and a tramp. Then he explained the difference between being a hobo, a bum and a tramp. Can't remember what they were though. I'd never really thought about it 'til then.

I have the Kay catalogues from 32-87 and K-48 wasn't that expensive according to those, don't get me wrong.
It's the late 40s we are talking about, 200 was a lot of money.

I have a 1950's Kay K - 27 for sale =. It was my fathers guitar and he did not take care of it as well as he could have. The front ( Adirondack Pine ) is in need of repair ( separating and someone carved their initials into it - which he lightly sanded and coated with a lacquer finish for protection ) - the bracing inside is loose - the neck needs adjustment and some of the inlay haas come off of the headstock ( I may have saved all or most of it along with the bridge ). It is truly a " Project Guitar ". ALSO there is no case for it. My father would play it and then place it into a corner until the next time that he played it. It was probably a decent guitar when he purchased it. I would love for it to be restored and used by someone who has a luthiery set up. Let me know if interested and if so how best to contact you.

Do you have a Kay S2121 model? I cant find it anywhere online to at least see what it looks like. Just trying to rule out that it looks nothing like the 6868 blonde model.

I wish you had talked about pricing.. I'm trying to figure out their value..
I don't think antique stuff has anywhere near the value it did 30 or 40 years ago. Today everyone wants shiny and new. The "appreciation" for old workmanship is kinda dead.

    • @fgoindarkg
      @fgoindarkg 4 місяці тому

There's very little moving on Reverb these days. Most sellers want crazy collector prices. Most collectors are selling or dying and the bottom is falling out of that market.
The covid bump is over and sellers need to understand that or get stuck with that old wood until it's too late.
