To anyone thinking about purchasing a "masterworks"... You won't be sorry. I bought the OM version, and it really does kick my Om18's as in sound and playability. All I had to do was tweak the neck and lower the saddle. I've been playing over 30 years and have some "high end" acoustics. My taylor 810 has been my favorite since I got it more then 15 years ago. It mostly sits and looks pretty now. I can't walk past the Alvarez without stopping and picking it up for 10 min. Sometimes 3 or 4 hours. I was late for work last week because of it! Lol. I played this model also, and it was just as good. Sound us very subjective, but I feel blessed to have found such a inspiring guitar. Saving up for the Yairi all Mahogany OM now. It will be the first guitar I ever purchased without playing it first because none are in my area to test drive. I'm that confident in the brand now.
great yeah i want he om now or the 12 fret slot head my Larrivee that worshipped is gettin dusty now you can and I have bought 2k guitars thatare not as good as the Alvarez MD's
Wow I just ran across your video. I just got my Alvarez MD60 and took a chance because I purchased it without ever playing it. Was looking at Martin Taylor’s and several others. Now I guess you could say maybe I am an intermediate player at best. As much as I would love to have a Martin times are a little hard and I could not justify it this time spending that kind of money. I started seeing this Alverez pop up online. I have to say and maybe it’s because I don’t know what I’m talking about but I really like playing this Alverez and it’s more comfortable in my hand than the Martin’s in the Taylor‘s that I played. Of course it’s a different sound but I like it. So I got a guitar for around $600 that I actually am more comfortable with than the ones that were $3000. Anyway your playing sounds really beautiful. Cheers thumbs up for sure.
Put mediums on mine and it blows me away. Few guitars have quite the clarity regardless but the mediums brought it to another level. That said I don't know how the tuners are holding up to the tension. It works and i think its acclimating but tuning up the first time was brutal.
I usually use mediums but now I’ve got 12-53 because I use a lot of tunings and some are up step! Tuners will hold up fine I think - The sharp break angle of the Yairi bridge will put stress there tho. Just give it a good eye. If Using 13-s- (ESP if humidity changes !) I’m sure it sounds awesome !!!
Mark,do you find that even with a 1 3/4 nut, the strings spacing on this guitar is narrower than some others? I own one, and i'm bringning it to my luthier to put another bone nut and reslot it a little wider to get about 1/16 more space between each string! I have big and thick fingers! Lol! But other than that, i think it sounds as good as a Martin D-18!
..saw this on the acoustic guitar MD60BG owners thread...Quote"..I changed the nut to a tusq 6136 wich is a 1 13/16 nut but the guitar is only 1 3/4. But it worked without me pushing the strings över the edge. The strings spacing was now wider even if the nut wasn't. That helped a lot." end quote ...
Just wanted to stop and confirm that I also had this same issue with the guitar. I ended up selling mine, but am now back in the market for one 🙂- shouldn't have let it get away. I will most certainly be getting a replacement nut installed for this reason - cheers!
I see you have a collection of guitars, how do you rate this guitar against other $1000 or less guitars? This guitar sounds dreamy.. Usually only get that effect with an adirondack top.. At least on video to me... I was stuck on thinking I needed a Martin but I think I would be happy with this guitar..
You would be very happy with this The new FST2 bracing and the Yairi bridge get the top like an old ADI top as you noticed I owned a limited edition D41 and this guitar is better and 5, 500 less! Martin makes fine guitars but their price is just crazy … This model I had to send first one back But the replacement ( here) is my favorite regardless of price

Hello Tony Well .. I haven’t played the D 140 but I have played the Rosewood D 150 And I own a D 240E flamed mahogany And hands down the MD60BG is a better sounding guitar for my style - but it’s not a huge gap! …Alvarez has better sustain volume and a superior -Imho- bridge angle …that enables some of the above However the wood quality on both -was / is excellent ! Really Like my Guild … but Smitten by my MD60. ! The real test will be in 12 months Tho…
Tony, i own a Guild D 140 sunburst...don't get me wrong, it sounds fairly good, but not in the same league as the alvarez MD60BG! This alvarez is pretty close to the Martin D-28! Try to find the video of JP CORMIER where he does a blind test with the MD 60 EBG and a 6,600$ D-28 Martin...it will throw you on the floor!
Well interesting you asked that I am ( er- was) a big proponent of NOT Using coated strings forever. I wanted the full volume But after seeing JP Cormiers’s UA-cam Review I decided to try elixir (nano web) 12-53 …for this guitar it works magic as they tend to be a little bright which balanced out the clear but big bottom Of the MD60 Plus they do last longer as d as much as you will love the guitar and wind up playing it all the time there’s the less labor factor as well The Daddario XS were great but I have a big hard attack and the Elixir 12-53 Seemed more balanced for my style and the particular voice of this MD60 I was really surprised
That’s very good information to have, thank you for the response. I also saw some of JP’s videos and it has led me down the rabbit hole so to speak. I’m 20 and have been playing for about 5 years mostly electric blues and rock. However, I work at a local guitar store that sells Alvarez and recently I picked up one of these MD60s as well as the MD70. It was like a whole new world opened up on guitar and it has sparked a desire to learn blue grass and some folk song. These Alvarez made me appreciate the acoustic side of this instrument for the first time since I picked up a guitar. Anyways, I appreciate all the information Cheers

You just uttered something that I have always innately felt well said on the Dread !
Lovely piece. Enjoyed that it shows more the sound of the guitar.
