  • I ventured first up some hills but due to wind had to return to the forest for my tarp and bivy, I had a wonder up some new tracks and just found a spot.

    Great spot mate, that sky looked amazing. Quite windy even in that spot. Up a height would have been wild.

      Hi Phil, yes the tops were just too windy, so the forest it was, just think how close they all are ! It’s easy to find a spot, I enjoyed it although it’s a long time in a bivy bag, that’s why I try for a dry camp, so I can sit out,
      Cheers Adrian

    What can we say??? do envy you, we are stuck working at the moment and would have loved to get out in that storm. There will be others...lol. Superb dusk sky and not too bad a dawn. Stay well, stay safe, and as always thank you for sharing your time out. Helen with Kat and Terri with Robyn.

    Cracking video Mate. Just one thing that I wouldn't do is have the tarps up so high in the winds . I usually have a low set up , just high enough to crawl into and have two opposing sides fastened directly to the ground , doing away with the guy lines. This will give you a far better shelter and less damage to the tarps and any other equipment. I hope this works for you as it does for me. ATVB from Big Andy.

      Hi and thanks for watching, sounds like a plan, if you look at my previous vids you will see I used a small magic carpet for head covering only, with just guys for stability of the poles and is was far more wind resistant, I will try a low A frame with a 2x2 on one of the next couple of trips,
      Cheers Adrian

      @northumberlandmountainhopper a recommendation is to use rocks and 9inch Easten pegs together to both peg and weigh it down. Should help prevent you from having to take the tarp down half way through your sleep. Although it's not completely fool proof.

    • @northumberlandmountainhopper
      @northumberlandmountainhopper  8 місяців тому +2

      @@boyzinthewood1hi Gez I suppose you can hammer them eastern ones in ? I use big MSR ground Hoggs which are great in soft ground but I can’t hammer them in !!!
      Cheers

    • @boyzinthewood1
      @boyzinthewood1 8 місяців тому +2

      @northumberlandmountainhopper there's other pegs like screw pegs that anchor into the ground better, you can even drill them in but then you dont want to be carrying a drill on camps too 😁 you can screw them in by hand but obviously not on a stone floor.

    Great to get out. But when you say tarps are not for the wind, it comes down to the pitch. The link below has plenty of options for wind. Let me know your favourite.

      Hi and thanks for watching, I often use the bad weather solo pitch, I watch the papa hiker great lover of the tarp, this time the ground and space was uneven and tight so I did what I could ! Also I prefer a good view so like the tarp high if I can.
