We make sauerkraut with bacon and caraway seeds all the time. For this we add potatoes and Brown up some kielbasa. Add that too. Yum!
I'm 62 yrs old and I remember when I was a kid my grandmother who was from Yugoslavia (now Croatia) used to make a pork roast with sauerkraut and caraway seeds. Thank you for posting your recipe, it brings back fond memories of family dinners.
MY POLISH MOTHER WOULD MAKE THIS USING PORK RIBS BUT SHE WOULD MAKE IT INTO SOUP FORM AND I STILL MAKE IT THE SAME WAY❤
Pork and sauerkraut is the best. Especially with mashed potatoes!
Finally...I found your recipe that was like my Polish grandma made years ago! Thank you! The only thing is that your video takes too long to watch. .nowadays...most cooks will already have the ingredients chopped and ready to make the dish.
I totally enjoyed the explanation. Thank you!
OMG, one of my favorite Sunday dinners as a child. My mom always made her ribs this way and it wasn't until I was an adult that I had barbecued ribs. I recently made this myself and enjoyed every bite! Thanks for the memories!
I grew up on ribs with sauerkraut. Never had bar-b-que ribs until I was married and had to learn to cook them that way. Over 50 years ago.
My grandmother was from Hungry, and made this same dish. So delicious 😋 she and my grandfather came to the USA in the early 1900's want to say about 1910. She put onions, garlic potatoes, carrots and turnips and caraway too,. And of course sour kraut.
Your husband is a lucky man! All that good food you make 😋
One of our family's favorites! We serve it over buttery mashed potatoes...
Made this, super delicious! Thank you
This dish would be great tonight . As it’s so cold in Minnesota. Looks wonderful.
Can't wait for the book
Me too 😅. Should be out in March!
My great grandmother was from Poland..she was a cook her whole life..this channel brings back so many memories of her amazing always made from scratch food!
Allspice! I never thought of allspice. Making this tonight, can't wait!
I grew up with grandparents of Polish and German descent. Pork ribs/roast with sauerkraut, potatoes, and carrots was a common winter Sunday dinner. I still make them, so good. I also use caraway seeds in mine, as did my mother and grandmother. I’m so looking forward to getting my copy of your new cookbook. ❤️
Yeah those caraway seeds add the final touch in my opinion my late Mother added those to hers also.
I found some country style, bone-in pork ribs I purchased on sale last spring up in the freezer recently. I ended up making cabbage soup with them... but I wish that I would have seen this recipe before I made the soup!! 😲
I also have a fermentation crock and have a couple jars of homemade sauerkraut in the fridge that would have been incredible in this recipe.
Well, next time country style ribs are on sale.... you know what I will be making!! 😊😊😊😊😊
Take care and be well!!
I was thinking Country style ribs would be awesome in this recipe
@@marcellahicks3984 I've purchased them on sale for as low as .89 cents a pound on occasion!! Good freezer item to stock up on!!😊😊
Bardzo dziekujie, pani.
When I was a little boy, my bobcia lived upstairs and this was one of my favorite dishes that she made.
Hello I'm Joseph from the Philippines we love this dish we can't cook this enough, we also started to make our sauerkraut we ferment it just like you do, we really love all your recipes! Keep doing you!!!
This is a childhood favorite.
I'm in Ohio, gets cold here, Grills are very popular now, but Oven ribs rest of year, also, Oven BBQ ribs were and still are popular when I grew up, not that many people had grills back then. Many people still fix ribs and kraut. here. And your version looks soooo good.
'fragrant cabbage smells...then they know you're Polish!' 😍
I put you on pause. Just got our water turned back on. Our pipe was frozen for a week. Started my rib dinner with all the spices you suggested. Its 4:30. I will check at 5:30 for liquid. I also added my taters to the pot before you suggested it. I used to cook this dish on top of the stove 40 years ago. I'm making it for myself as my hubs🙃😁 Is a hillbilly and will not even try it. His loss.
WOW....one of the best recipe videos I have watched - down to earth and easy to follow . Well done you and thank you !!!
I'm slavic. Grew up in Australia. My best friend is Polish. So many immigrants came post ww2. Lot's of cross pollinating of food, culture and people. It must be something in our European dna. Even reading the comments, lots of nostalgia and memories with grandparents and parents from chidhood. You just cannot beat this food. When I stick to 'our' food, I'm always in the best health. No cholesterol, no diabetes. I'm far from slim though!😂And it gives true joy preparing and eating food like this. Simple and amazing. I need to make your sauerkraut. We call it kiseli kupus. I love it finely grated and soft. I eat it every day. I develop reflux if I don't. Good for the gut. We have amazing food in Australia. Very fortunate.
Love your channel!
Awesome, love your videos. I am Ukrainian, and also a cook. Was looking for a sauerkraut recipe an stumbled in here. I will be following you and trying your recipes..

Made it. It was a great comfort food on a cold winters day.
Its always a good day when you drop a new recipe. Dziękuje Ci, imma try this one soon.
Looks so delicious.
I made your sauerkraut recipe. It was perfect. Going to try this too. My mom was 100 percent polish and her polish cookbook can’t be found. It has been a great loss. You have helped to bring those recipes back. I still can’t make my golumki taste like hers yet but I will keep trying.
my family always made this with chops... your recipe is a game changer!
I have been making this regularly since I found the recipe on your site. Yum! Love this!
I made this recipe for New Year’s and OH MY GOODNESS this was absolutely delicious. The family loved it and it will be the staple for New Year’s moving forward and on winter months dinner rotation. Thank you!
Thank you for the informative video!
Great video, thanks so much for sharing your skill and knowledge.
Just made this before Christmas! We enjoyed this dish as kids during the winter when you couldn’t grill ribs. Hearty comfort food! Thanks for your video!
My mother made this on Sundays
This was one of my favorite meals as a child. Watching you make this brought back memories of my sweet mom cooking this dish during the winter months here in Chicago. Thank you so much for sharing. 🤎
❤❤❤MY FAVORITE!! 😊
This looks so good, will have to make some. I can almost smell this.
My Favorite.

I just put the pot in the oven, kitchen smells wonderful already! Have a great weekend Anna & Mark 😋
I can't wait to make this! It's dreary, chilly, and grey in Dallas, and this dish is just the thing to bring some smiles to my table. Thank you!
Thank you!
So beautiful. Can’t wait to make this for my Mom. Thank you!😊
I love this dish, and I usually make a version of it two to three times a year. Yours looks wonderful.🙋
I loved this video, and your manner. We are trying this tomorrow for dinner!
I've got this in the oven right now. It smells wonderful! Thanks, Anna!
Thanks Mark! You are a sweetheart!
I was watching all the episodes of you being in Poland. They were very enjoyable. I am learning how to cook properly so thank you for the content.Thank you.
I love your comment to not follow your recipe. It is rare that I follow a recipe exactly and it is such an important point that recipes should be mostly guides to make our own. Love using your recipes for new ideas and I've even followed a few exactly because they are perfect the way they are! Awesome channel - keep doing what you're doing!
This one is an absolute winner! Turned out absolute delicious, it's always a success with you Polish Your Kitchen! Thank you and greetings from Scotland!
What wonderful surprise… I think smoked ribs would be a nice addition
Looks so good!
I started a batch of sauerkraut today.
By chance I bought some pork ribs last. Will try your recipe soon.
Thanks
Looks delicious...can't wait to make this for my husband & me 😊
Your ribs and Sauerkraut looks so delicious! I also love your beautiful dishes! ❤️your channel
Looks really good. Will try.
Hi
First, we love watching the both of you on the Tube of You! Now, if you want to chop onions without crying, here is how to do it. Cut off the root end and set the onion on your cutting board for a few minutes. You will notice a milky liquid coming out, that is what makes you cry. After letting the onion sit for awhile, chop it up and you will be good to go. You will not smell onions on your hands either. I cannot wait to recreate your recipes in my kitchen! XOXO
I'm going to store to get ingredients. Very cold here today(-18F) so it will be a perfect meal. Love the bloopers at the end.
I watch your videos from Philadelphia, where we have a sizable Polish population
Hi Anna, been away for awhile, good to be back. Love your recipes. Mark is gastronomically blessed! Did this recipe once. Was great. Going to give it another go. German father, Scottish mother and many Polish family members once or twice removed. Absolutely love Polish cuisine! Thanks for your wonderful down to earth recipes!! Best wishes to you and Mark!
I am half Polish and half Ukrainian. That dish looked very good . God Bless
Making this now for New Years dinner. Really enjoying the experience and videos. Happy New Year from north Florida.
I am SO HAPPY to have found your sight, being half Polish, for the longest time I have struggled to find somebody on UA-cam who is creditable with Polish cooking. I also am going to share with my Polish mother.
Will be making it soon!dzieki!
Love your recipes. Just ordered your book too!
thanks
i cannot wait for your cookbook. im so very excited about this. i usually just use ketchup and brown sugar with this and some Polska Kielbaska
I do make mine with potatoes which I will be fixing on this Sunday but…I love cooked carrots so I will be adding those as well like yours. Yummy!
My dad used to make this. He was German. He would sear the ribs in oil and butter. In a roasting pan he would layer sauerkraut partially drained, then a layer of ribs. On this layer he would pour some barbecue sauce, then a layer of kraut, then ribs and so on. Let it cook over medium low heat for hours. It was so good. I make it now and have for over 30 years. My kids love it except one. It is so good. We make our own kraut.
CARAWAY SEEDS are a memory of Mom's cooking.... and yes, growing up in Milwaukee 1950s, never saw a GRILLED rib.....Mom cooked for 4 adults and 2 kids and the whole rack of ribs would nestle between potatoes, carrots, celery and cabbage in the big roaster or in a NESCO....Texas in the 70s finally encountered grilled/smoked ribs.... .....great video
Made this last night. Oh my goodness! Thanks.
Fed 7 people last night and everybody loved it. My daughter was very insistent she take some home with her. Got up this morning and had the rest of it for breakfast just now. Soooo delicious.
Yummy. This looks so good, and you are right it smells awesome. I love when you said when your guests arrive they know you are Polish. Gorgeous!!! That's a proper description. Hello! Please!! Nothing better than caramelized sauerkraut.
By the way Mark, you inspired me to view the Lord of the Rings Trilogy from your Man Cave Weekend. We didn't have the Costume. My Husband watched it with wide eyes and I had a pleasant Winters Nap. It is kind of like watching a Baseball Game for me, I watch it with one eye sometimes.
One of my favorite dishes! My dad often adds brown sugar to the sauerkraut. I've never seen veggies other than potatoes added, but it sure looked good with carrots. We also add apples. Delish!
I make a sweet and sour pork roast with sour krout and brown sugar, yummy!
I grew up on this. An old family favorite (we’re Irish American 🤷🏼♀️) love it and making tonight for young adult sons! Although I use sweet onions, carrots and apple slices in my krout mix. Serving w rustic mashed potatoes and baked beans.
Just like our Mothers and I use to make..we are Polish Austrian..mniam enjoy your show very much!🏆🏆🏆
I have made this with Country Ribs, very good, but I never added the bacon. Will have to try this. I also use Country Ribs when I make Bigos. They're slightly cheaper, and when stewed, are very tender and flavorful.
I have to ask what are Bigos?
@@gabrielle2439 It's like she said, it's the name for a stew that used up food at the end of hunting and harvest season. Bigos is one word, like spaghetti is a word for the noodles in general. Bigos is the word for this kind of stew. Just happens to end in s. lol
Yummy 😋
wonderful! Thanks much....
Our pleasure!
Looks delicious
Southside jimmy K here, made your dill pickle soup, OH MY, it was better than a Polish restaurant named Polonez here in milwaukee! Love the long cooking time for the rib and kraut dish too. Also try a bottle of a good pilsner beer like Okocim poured into the pot adds great flavor🤪
Delicious 😋
My mom used to make a roux and put mushrooms in her Kapusta. She made hers with half cabbage and half canned sauerkraut. Your video makes me want to make some Kapusta with ribs. My grandma made this every Christmas Eve, and we couldn’t have Paczki until we ate our bowl of sauerkraut! What wonderful memories!
Haha funny
Swlooks delishh
