Welcome to the Blue Cactus Dairy Goat Ranch! We breed show quality Nigerian Dwarf Goats. We currently have a herd of 26 does and 6 bucks. Our herd is rotationally grazed on our 11 acre homestead in Arizona. We make cheese and soap from the milk we get and we also raise
Kunekune Pigs, Muscovy Ducks and Chickens. We also keep a large garden year round!

I guess ya didn't show a goat at this show. Derrick did a great job talking to all of the vendors and those who had a goat in the show. That was huge judging shows Wow! Take care and safe travels home!

I just wish that the sound quality was better so we could actually hear the judge’s comments. I showed Suffolk sheep and it’s nice to hear what the judge has to say

Wow! Makes me wonder if they follow the "Crystal" way of breeding, by pulling the babies off mama after 2 days to get the milk and "friendly" up those babies! Yours are the best! This was very exciting to watch! How do you get picked to become a Judge? Is that something you or Derek has ever considered?

I thought there was a degree to be earned but I cant find evidence for that. Hopefully Crystal can answer better.
Most show breeders do pull babies early. You have to go through a training to be a judge and I do intend to be one some day ;)

As long as you have an ADGA registered goat, you can enter them in the National show.
This makes me want to go to a goat show now. We’ve never been. The hubby retires in two years and this might be a good idea of how to enjoy our retirement…lol. Thanks for sharing! Looks so fun!!.

The mini goats aren't registered through ADGA so none at this show. Minis are when a Nigerian dwarf and a standard size goat is bred to make a mini.

Not colors per say. That would be a no no move for a judge. I have noticed they may prefer certain body types over others though.

Crystal @BlueCactusDairyGoats can you do a video on what a good udder looks like or point me to one you’ve done? I’ve skimmed through your videos and can’t seem to find one, but I’ve seen other say their goats have great udders that seriously look like yours after they are dried up. Then at the shows some are bulging out past their bodies and some are not. I was just wondering which is best and which attachments are best

Are the goats left in milked to make their udders more pronounced? Seems like some of the does we’re having some difficulty walking with such huge udders.
I really enjoyed this video, so many beautiful does, it must be such a hard decision for the judges to make.
The day before the show, they have to be milked out and someone goes around to check and make sure they are.

Hey Crystal I have a quick question about the national shows. I am unsure if you would be able to answer this but do you know if they allow dairy wethers in the showmanship ring? I was doing a little bit of research online and apparently they have showmanship in the nationals but I am uncertain if they would allow wethers. Thanks
