I wanted to make this comment, and then thought it might come across as too esoteric so I relinquished. And now that I'm listening to the audio recording of my own flight around Melbourne just a couple of days ago, I really have to say that it's not just those amazing views that you get to see when flying, but also the sounds of it all that matter to me. And just as soon as you get airborne, you get this feeling that you've just entered this other world hidden in plain sight where airliners and other aircraft all communicate on the radio. It's the sound of your engine and propeller, it's air traffic services telling you you're identified, and the sound of all these familiar voices that you really only hear when you're up there. The views and the sounds together make that a very special and unique experience. Great video, that sums it up well.
Hey Stef I have been watching your videos for a long time and have also wanted to be a pilot for a long time, so I wanted to say thanks. I did my first solo flight yesterday on my 16th birthday.
Well done!!!!!!! Really respect that, I want to but don't have the funds, hopefully soon anyway! Once again Congratulations that is a really amazing achievement.
I describe flying as "a unique pleasure". I remember my first flight as a licensed pilot. I flew to the next town, had coffee, and flew back. The sky was mine. I could go anywhere I wanted. It was actually slightly intimidating at first...
I had my first trial lesson in an SR20 this morning here in the UK. If I say I enjoyed it a lot that's an understatement. Watching this video just underpinned my conclusion of the day: flying is highly addictive :-)
I’ve always struggled to explain to family and friends when they ask “why do I fly”, words just can’t do it justice. Next time when someone asks I will just show them your video.........perfect explanation, no words needed, thanks Stef.
Yes true, it's either the city off to your left or over the water from the South. It was such a beautiful day as well, and coming down off the mountains and being vectored over the water was great.
Mate, you summed up in 3 minutes in this beautiful and touching video the reasons of why you, me and thousands upon thousands of pilots around the world young and old, the passion, the experience and the sharing of the joy of flight that goes with why we fly. Every since I can remember as a very young child I have always dreamed about flying - I am now 51, been flying since 1997 and I never ever get bored with it - every flight is an adventure. I also live here in Adelaide and was part owner of a Diamond DA40 at Parafield Airport for 5 years - VH-LCF - thank you so much for this video - it touched my heart and soul, and I hope that many dreamers like myself see this video and turn their dreams into flying reality - Dave Jonkers - EVANSTON GARDENS, Adelaide, AUSTRALIA :-)
I think it's time for youtube to create the "Superlike" button. Right now I have a swirl of feelings in my head. A very emotional video. Congratulations once again.
Lovely flight Stef - like all the comments below that's why we fly, for the views, the challenge and the sheer pleasure of planning and executing a flight to our best ability. Loved the view over Albert Park! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Stefan, thanks for sharing. This resonates with me, today especially because I took and passed my PPL skills test today. Everyone's reason for wanting to fly may be different, but mine is the freedom as well as the responsibility that comes with having a pilots license. Keep the inspirational content coming!
This is perfect. Words can not describe the feeling of flying an aircraft on such gorgeous days. I hope you saw me wave as you flew by me going 50kts faster than I was! Hope you had a good Father's day Stef, you've inspired many people like myself and bring together so many fellow aviators! Thank you Stef.
@@StefanDrury no worries! I stumbled across your channel a few days ago and have been going through your videos every evening! Thanks mate, those are circular irrigation fields. So there's an irrigation boom on a pivot that rotates and irrigates the field, but of course the crop growth follows the circular area being irrigated. I guess the loss of area for growth (the areas in between the circles) is offset by the more affordable/reliable method of irrigation. But I'm no agriculturalist so I'm sure someone can offer a better reason. We have a few of those in SE Australia, I've seen quite a few flying in the USA as well.

Really like this video Stefan. Even though some people think it's crazy, there is nothing like being able to jump into the airplane and just have a fun day of flying!
You fly for the very same reason, I watch your videos. To see this amazing earth from a different level, something I can not do, because of health, but I can watch as you travel around and experience a piece of the life of a pilot. I love knowing that people can fly or sail to incredible places on earth. That video of the guy flying around the world in that float plane was awesome. Keep flying brother, be safe and I truly do appreciate the time you put in, so I can fly with you.
Hey Billyl, thanks for this comment that really means a lot. Flying over my stomping grounds. I recently did the Flightradar thing and had been hoping to catch you up in the air one time. Of course the day you fly over my house I was in Melbourne ! The Grampians sure are pretty from the air. Thanks for doing them justice.
Seeing Adelaide from the air always gives me a bit of a homesickness kick. I know it's not everyone's favourite Aussie city but the feeling of sitting on final for either runway at YPAD is awesome every time.
I had a really fun weekend in Adelaide a few months back with Jacq. Next time I fly myself there I'll definitely try and stay for longer. And that approach to RWY05 over water is just stunning.

I get it if people feel an adrenaline rush or a tingling feeling in their bones when they have power in their fingertips advancing throttles, much like how humans like the thrill of a powerful car. For Adelaide, I asked Melb Centre (when I was about 100nm out) if I’d be getting a STAR or if I could just get vectors to final. They checked with ADL and told me to expect vectors for right base 05. @stefan random question on a Cirrus what’s the maximum range it can fly thannnnkk youu
Hey mate, I have 90G usable, and I base my calculations on a pessimistic headwind and with my own personal minimum reserves (landing with at least an hour's fuel on top of reserves) when planning flights. BUT... in theory, when leaned out at cruise you can squeeze a little over 6 hours (say just over 900nm) flying on full tanks. But like I say, I really wouldn't recommend that! Could ou make a video of how to organize to fly into a big airport like YPAD
Why do pilots put a small stuff animal in the cockpit just curious
Did you get much wake turbulence when the larger Aircraft flew over top or was the hight difference enough to dissipate it down
People really ask why someone would want the freedom, the adrenaline, the birds eye view of the world we walk on?!
