I was living in Sri Lanka at the time running a small factory, Shane called me up mid tour asking if I could make a few photo frames for his wife, I said no problem and we spent the next 15 minutes chatting about the series against Sri Lanka. A really nice guy, super famous, but as down to earth as you'll ever find

He was my sporting hero , I didn’t care he played for the “enemy” I loved everything about him , his skill , his class , his sporting attitude. I’ll miss him forever
He deserves to be missed. And I mean that in a good way like he deserves every tear that has been shed for him he was so incredible and brought so much sheer joy to the world.
Nearly every time I saw Shane after he finished playing, he had a ball in his hand....He loved giving back to the game he loved......That's what I remember about King.

It starts with Shane's opening commentary about what he loved about the MCG and cricket and life itself. Just beautiful. As a South Australian, we half claim Warnie and are so proud we could be home to him while he crafted his mastery of leg spin. We love you and miss you so much mate 🥰

This is really touching. I saw Michael Vaughn break down crying talking about spending Xmas just gone at Warnie's place. He was devastated just as much as our cricketers who played with him. I have to say , I wasn't expecting the outpouring of love and sadness from England but we truly feel the respect for Shane over here from you and we appreciate it!

Interesting to hear Warnie's thoughts on test matches being free entry, and that the game has become a tv sport. I have often thought that in Australia, even during the ashes, that the capacity of the grounds are very poor with several empty seats throughout the stadium. Whereas in England for example, we tend to sell out within a couple of days of the tickets being on sale regardless of the opposition. I appreciate that our stadiums have a much smaller capacity, but is this a generally agreed point in Australia that cricket is now a tv sport?
Probably but we can change that - ditch the phone and TV and get out there!

He’s dead. That’s very sad for his family. But will people stop trying to make out he was some kind of larikin saint? He set up a dodgy foundation that was nothing more than a tax dodge and ever did anything, couldn’t keep his hands to himself and off other women/peoples wives. He wasn’t a hero.
Shane was Shane! Loved for all his flaws! Will be missed. He was only 52, too young to die. It was unexpected and people are in shock. He was an icon of the game and very much loved! If you don’t have anything nice to say! Shut the F.... up!
That's actually where a lot of the admiration comes from. The fact he was, in many ways, quite ordinary and flawed. Just because you're gifted with an elite talent and nurture it to perfection, doesn't mean you are the same with other areas of your life. And Shane very publicly worked through his flaws and never hid from them. He evolved in real time and still maintained a sense of humour and positive outlook. In many ways, it's a great template for the rest of us who also stuff up in life.

We're not treating him as a hero. Everyone talking about him genuinely feels like a close mate, so that = MANY people talking about him around the world bc he was generous with his time and his heart. He has 3 kids left behind and many of us want to give back the love and joy Warnie gave us.
Showing what you love and miss about someone bc they passed completely unexpectedly, especially when not on home soil (where I think we all believe we might have been able to save him), is both and outpouring of what we wish we'd said to him while he was alive and a gesture comfort to his family. It's legitimate to grieve people you haven't met if you grew up watching them on your TV as kids/ teens/adults like everyone did with Bob Saget. They form part of your life and create bonds of friendship from family to strangers.
His shortcomings were well talked about in his life (some true some false) so right now after his passing isn't really the time to repeat a laundry list is it? How does that help ease the families pain at this time? If there needs to be a lawsuit against his estate later then that can be done.
