  • KTM's 690 Duke has reshaped what we thought possible from a single-cylinder streetbike. It boasts ultra-sharp responses, a surprisingly powerful engine, and a personality that's anything but dull.

    8 years ago I came here almost everyday, until I bought the bike. Have a wonderful 6 years with it and recently sold it to my good friend. Looking forward to ride after the pandemic with a new bike.

    I ride the wheels off mine. I wear out the outer edges of the tyres before the center. Great fun at the race track too.

      @@cbr125rcanada Sort of. If you want more highway stuff then definitely. But otherwise don't be so sure. These bikes rock. But pricey upkeep unless you DIY

    I had a loan of one of these while my Bandit 1200 was in the workshop, wasn't sure what to think as I climbed aboard, well Holy shit! Kevin was spot on with his review, fantastic engine with massive torque, huge grunt, huge grin factor, fast off the line, very light and nimble. But..... VIBRATIONS, absolutely no wind protection, crap seat. Apart from the negatives it was a great experience!

    Duke on the Duke... good stuff. Nice video review! Any spec-snob can read the spec chart, but its nice to see it in action and hear the personal views of a well heeled motorcyclist regarding how the specs come together where the rubber meets the road... if not well haired. : ) See you down the road, Dook!

  • @aluisious
    @aluisious 11 років тому

    The older models (mine was an 11) had a higher seat height than the 690, and perhaps due to the undertail dual exhaust, had a way higher feeling center of mass.

      It's all part of the bikers life, if you don't like it then maybe a feminine VW beetle will suit you better...Wind, rain, sleet or snow, I'm still getting my knee down ;)

      If not you can't maby you would have better luck in a VW beetle.

    • @autbiker1006
      @autbiker1006 10 років тому

      The 690 Duke is a really good bike for the beginning. I'm driving a Duke 690 restricted to 32kw and im very glad that I've chosen the 690 instead of the 390. So, if you have the certain amount of money, go for the 690 ;). I uploaded some vids of my bike on my channel, so if you're interested, feel free to check them out. :D

      if you haven't gotten a bike yet, I'd recommend a used 250-350ish CC bike to start with, as you're most likely to drop the bike and make other mistakes on your first bike. My 3 closest friends and I all dropped our first bikes. It is nice to have a cheap bike that you don't have to worry about - dropping it will vastly lower its value.

      it means that they limit the power output of the engine to not exeed 32kw or 48hp so that you can drive the bike with a smaller driving license

    How tall is he? I'm 6'2". And I'm as you can tell by my pic I ride a Honda 250. And I dwarf the bike. Is the duke or the FZ-07 a bigger bike? Either one is a welcome upgrade from my learner bike.

    • @chrismaxwell4852
      @chrismaxwell4852 9 років тому

      MasterChief0093 I've ridden my mate's MT-07 (from new zealand so we dont have the fz-07) and a 690 duke r, the duke is taller in seating height than the mt-07 and feels more agile. mt-07 is wider than the duke but both are very very fun bikes to ride.

      Not really, thats the interstate highway speed limit (at least in TX). Bikers can't drive the speed limit because for some reason it pisses of car drivers and they cut you off. Driving aggressive is actually safer for motorcycles.

      ***** Well, that's like... your opinion, man. The FZ-07 is cheaper and sexier with negligible difference in hp and torque. Made by a more reliable manufacturer and two cylinder vs KTM's single it's a no brainer the FZ-07 kills the Duke 690

    • @tosgem
      @tosgem 9 років тому +2

      +Robert Brangan (CoffeeBlack762) the duke is 20kg lighter and has more torque and better suspension. I GUARANTEE that around a track the duke will be quicker, by a lot. But the fz07 is good considering how cheap it is. The duke, in the other hand, is not a cheap bike

    • @VivekSharma-ux2bl
      @VivekSharma-ux2bl 9 років тому

      dirt bike has a very limited application frnd.......other classes like sports, commuters and tourers and their sub categories form the majority segment ........high capacity single cylinder engines tend to vibrate like hell on certain speed : gear combinations.....hence uncomfortable plus no revving at higher speeds ......just my opinion ......but taking in the price to performance factor 690 duke is better than a lot of them premium twins........
