If you use a female cigarette lighter adapter on an Anderson plug to your solar panels, would the output of the usbc male cigarette plug be limited to the 40w and protect the unit ? Hope that made sense. Just trying to work out the best way to charge on Solar with existing 120w panel
Hi mate. Ummm so are you wanting to just buy usb phone charger (usb c) that plugs into a car cigg port? And hook that up through the Anderson to female cigg port that’s connected to your solar panel. The usb c charger should have protections built in that should protect your unit
If you charge from a 12v solar panel through a cigarette adapter into usb-c, do you need to still use a charge controller on the solar panel? or can you connect straight to the panel?
I think the DC connector might be expecting to see more like 14.4V input which would be about the same as a vehicle with the alternator running. Alternatively you could try another one of those regulators with a voltage more like a car (ie: 13.8V - 14.4V). My 2c. Thanks for the video.
Complete novice here, can you stick an Anderson plug on the end of that cig lighter, then solar controller, then plug into portable solar panels for in the field for daytime trickle charge? Is that possible? Looking for a cheap fridge powering solution for a friend on a tight budget.
I believe those cig ports are outputs only. I wouldn’t recommend it. The max charge I got from the usb c on my unit was 40watts. You won’t get enough charge daily to keep a fridge going constantly. But they are great for camping/picnic’s etc. thanks for watching 🙂
I'm waiting on delivery of one, which apparently are not in stock. But stores have them. I'm wondering if I'm getting a brand new one straight off the boat when China actually allows shipping it.
@@matthoskin3572 I actually got mine two days ago, and I very quickly ordered the the ac jack to Anderson plug cable so I could recharge it off solar panels and/or battery. No way am I charging through a bloody usb.
Hi, I have the same unit. It pulls 45 w with the correct USB c charger. It also seems to pull 45w with the dc input from my testing.... So they're the same. I was hoping I can use both at the same time for faster charge, but it didn't work. Thanks for the video.
I just bought one of these. With the DC plug there’s no indication of polarity on the unit or in the instructions. (I’ve seen weird reversed polarity on units like this before.) I assume this is a standard positive centre pin?
Good video. Just wondering why you just didn’t use a suitable 12v solar regulator ? As someone else mentioned limiting your voltage to 12v will only charge a battery to 12v. What helped me is thinking about voltage like pressure. If you have a compressor that can only deliver 30psi, that compressor will only inflate a tire to 30psi.
Nice video. Just brought a can fridge kingss. Dales man said get the 24 powerbank to use when not driving. But can i charge it when driving? Also looking at the Supercheap Matson MAPP030 240Wh Lithium Portable Power Station bit cheaper. On sale. Thanks
Nice mate. You can Charge the kings pack while driving using the usb c cable. That Matson power station looks nice mate and cheap. It looks like it uses different lithium cells to the the kings 24ah pack.
Would it not be easier to recharge it off the mains ? I bought one yesterday and recharging this off solar to power a refrigerator seems a pointless waste of time. Just my personal opinion.
Hi there. It depends what your using to charge the pack. I have used a 30watt usb c to usb c charger and it has taken over 14hours to charge. But if you are using an older style charger it’s going to take far longer
Hi mate thanks for watching. I havnt tried the 36watt solar blanked. I’m sure it would work ok but I would imagine it would take a couple days to fully charge from 0%. It would work great on small power packs I reckon
@@Techboxreview thanks mate I've got the power pack that's runs a kings console fridge in the tool box at work only running during work hours and was thinking about a solar panel to trickle charge to save me pulling it out as often to charge seem to get 3 days worth of run time while at work after looking more kings has a 70w folding panel that's ment to be able to plug if to the dc point (I think it's called) gotta get the drinks and smoko cold on site haha 😂
Thanks bro 😎 it’s a unbranded watt meter. I got mine from eBay they are reasonably cheap. I’m sure Amazon has these also. Just search watt mater and you should have heaps to choose from
Hey mate come across your videos looking for reviews on this unit. I know nothing about this kind of stuff and this might be a stupid question can I charge using 12v car socket while driving? Again probably a stupid question
Yeah I can’t see why not. The unit only comes with a usb c cable. I would just pick up a usb c to 12v car socket adapter and charge it that way. Then u can charge other devices using usb c
Hey Mate, love the video's, just saw you ran a tv off one of these things!, Was curious how long does it take to fully charge it?, I am using a 100W power brick usb c to usb c and it seems like its taking forever! i know that its maxed out at 60W charging input. Thanks.
Mine takes around 8 hours to fully charge. The max charge I could get into mine was 40watt using a 100W usb c power port. That’s the biggest downside to the unit I reckon? Is the slow charging. Thanks for watching 👍

Great review as always. Appreciate the effort and time you take to do these reviews. Thankyou
Thanks bud. I appreciate it 👍
Can you do a test to see how long it runs a fridge for?
Cigarette lighter with plug you have. Be able to charge it from the cars cigarette lighter Socket?. Thanks
Hi mate. It would work but you would need a dc to dc charge a charge controller to make sure the pack doesn’t get over charged

Yeah exactly. I have a 40w usbc cigarettes lighter plug, so I assume no more than 40w can pass through it from the solar panels ?
Yeah that’s correct mate. That’s should work fine 😁👍
Thanks for your help mate !
If you charge from a 12v solar panel through a cigarette adapter into usb-c, do you need to still use a charge controller on the solar panel? or can you connect straight to the panel?
Hi mate. You will still need a charge controller because a 12volt panel acually can provide up to 18-21volt witch is far to high for the pack
@@Techboxreview thanks so much for the quick reply, much appreciated. you probably saved me from blowing it up. 😅

How many Amps is the stepdown convertor you are using? I have a 56v , 260w solar panel and wondering which stepdown converter I need.
I believe I used a 20amp one In the video.

New watcher. Stumbled upon your channel. Do you have a link for your digital meter you use in many of your videos?
Thanks for checking out my channel. I don’t have a link do that meter. But I picked mine up from eBay Amazon also sell them.
Can 2 of these units be linked via usb c or dc plug?
Not that I know of mate.
