- "What You Give Is What You Get" is a song by American heavy metal band Ratt. It was released as the third and final single from their 1985 album Invasion of Your Privacy. It was written by bassist Juan Croucier.

They were like the American Glen Tipton and KK Downing. Although I’m not sure how they’d do trying to play painkiller.

June 2024 and this song still rocks. Watching Ratt up on a stage was fantastic, they were phenomenal, every time. Love Warren n Robbin doing double solo's or when they went back n forth jammin'. I'm 44 years old, and everytime I hear that damn voice of Stephan Pearcy, it still sends chills down my spine. One of a kind, strong powerful voice. Listened to a lot of Ratt back in the day, one of the best Hair Bands of the 80's bar none!

went to a lot of rat concerts back in the day along with all the other hair metal bands 48 today have kids 16 and 17 they listen to right now 80s metal even after 30 plus years has not lost its appeal that music was the best there's no other genre today that comes close going to see you at in Indiana and August and even though it's not the original group the music is still worth going to see Rock on Ratt and roll forever

That’s a perfect description for it. “Dark” or “Moody” is another I’ve heard. Anyway, the song “Between the eyes” and this song have that same darkness to them. I love how they are right together on the CD in the perfect order.

My favorite 80s album
I've got an 18 year old son who grew up listening to this genre thanks to me. He started with guitar at 6 and has pretty much mastered around 95% of Ratt's discography as well as a dozen or more glam bands' tunes. Anyway, the only obstacle that he can't hurdle is finding Robbins' tone on his solos. Warren's was pretty easy (for him), he says. It's interesting to hear guitarists and bassists who are under 25 speak about players from this genre and how difficult a lot of their songs and solos were. My son got so excited during the solo during Europe's 'Superstitious' that he had tears in his eyes. I guess he was about 10 or so when that happened. I wish I was as passionate about anything as he is about music.
My youngest is 12 and she listens to the bullshit of today so I blare this beautiful genre of music every chance I get when she's around... Gets her out of the damn house like we use to back in my day...

Squier/Blue Murder/King's X, Great White/Steelheart/Bulletboys, Don Dokken's Ashes solo tour with the super group he put together, the first Lynch Mob tour, Def Lep's Hysteria In The Round Tour, the Mindcrime tour, the Promised Land tour with Geoff singing into his drink at the bar and radio contest winners at the tables onstage in the cafe as the guys created the swoon of the title song as a three piece, XYZ in a small bar as they broke out, Days Of The New peeling the paint off the walls with acoustic guitars, Monsters Of Rock with VH/Scorps/Dokken/Kingdom Come/Metallica where James came out and did his own mixing on the side of the stage before their set, Dio with C. Goldy/Malmsteen/Doro, Dokken's Dysfunctional tour with Cinderella in a small club. Just to name a few. There were so many. An awesome time and a lot of great music from a lot of great musicians dedicated to their passion and us as fans. At least Europe is trying to resurrect it. If you haven't seen Deraps here in the US or Bloody Heels in Europe, check out their stuff on yt. There is hope. ;)

Definitely a solid tune and should have been the 2nd release. If they were smart, it would've been Lay It Down, What You Give, and Closer to My Heart. You're in Love is the shittiest song on the disc.
