Working on a biginner Bonsai. This tree is youn and get one of its first ever styling. hopefully you get something out of this. Chhers Aussie Bonsai Bloke
Just want to say your videos are great. I'm a novice in bonsai (barely even that), in Australia too! It's really encouraging to see Australian natives, or at least species that thrive in an Australian climates get bonsai-ed. I've got maybe 10 bonsai, mostly different eucalypts and recently bought a ginkgo, fingers crossed I can make something of it :)
Pruning of the tree is going to make this a cool looking tree in my book. Yup. I watched the whole video. Like you said, the split might make a nice look to the trunk. Big chop. Still looking cool. Great job on this tree.
Sam. You are no amateur. You are one true Bonsai Master. With the many ways of doing bonsai, I think growing the tree in a natural state is one of my favorites also. The split down the trunk, just like the old days in tv, not recorded but live. Mistakes were made and the comedians and straight person took over from there. I like the way you repaired the split. Fingers crossed that the repair with the wood glue takes. Simply a magnificent tree.
Excellent video mate. Including accidents - v good. Making a natural miniature tree not a Japanese cliche - vv good. I use vet tape for splits and under wire to avoid scarring. The clue's in the name, it's what vets put on dogs paws etc. Sticks to itself, stretchy and easy to get off. Better than pva.
I would wrap a wire horizontally around the top of the split and let it meld together. With it wired tight the branches could then be bent as though it hadn't split. Good transformation though.
I think you're going to have a great looking tree there. The mell are a temperamental bloody tree at the best of times. Too much nitrogen. Not enough acidity. And they drop like bloody flies. But when they flower they can melt your bloody heart.
Nice job on the Melaleuca bonsai Bloke , the end result for its first hair cut doesn’t look to bad buddy , the split down the middle of the trunk shouldn’t hurt it mate , the growth on the either side is there with cambium etc , how is it nowadays ? great video as always .👍
Time is when you can do the tree. How right you are. Sometimes things come up and we fall behind. Better late than never. After all. Landscapers are putting trees and plants into the ground throughout the whole spring, summer and fall, and they grow. Might take awhile but they do start to grow and to live.
Late to the party again, but worth it for 50:01! So glad you didn't bend there! (I know that real life is different to the computer screen, but I would be inclined to shorten the second trunk as well) Love the content, and would love to head west for a visit one day soon - still chasing an olive . . . !
i need to stop cutting the long new growth on my trees in the spring, because im zapping their energy doing it for the past few years.. but i dont like seeing long straight new growth on a lot of these trees i have.. blocking out the light and using its water for the branches im not going to keep.. but clearly some of these trees are giving me a lot of dirty looks lately, and i dont blame them
Hi Sam I’m a lot like you I just keep it simple and enjoy my trees thanks for the video awesome job
I like your attitude. A 'mistake' can lead to an interesting feature..

The chop at the end was the right move, I think. Was hoping you'd do it.
I thought it was going to be more dramatic.💥
Lmao I think you did a great job, definitely an improvement!
Thanks Sam!
I love the end result, bloody ripper 👍
Good choice in the big chop at end mate really nice start I think to
Gud day watching Philippines
I’m in on the idea of making trees look like trees. You should start an International Club. I’d join.
There are no mistakes, just happy accodents 😊 thanks for sharing the accidents as well

I found that out with papaya. They do not like their roots to be disturbed.
Either way. Sort or long video. As long as you can get your information across is what counts.
👍😊👌👌
