The confidence in Bishop Casey was certainly misplaced. When he fell from grace and fled the country, I remember being told that a letter was sent to priests asking if they could contribute £100 a man to help support the poor bishop. That request fell on very deaf ears.
My god he acted as judge prosecutor and jury. Dictating to the whole of Ireland and no one knew what he was really doing..pity he wasn't charged years ago but this cunning man had all corners sealed there would be no courthouse ever in his way his disgusting life was bad .
I was walking along on the footpath in Old Galway town with my brother in 1979 and a very fast-moving black BMW drove past and very near to us, we got a big shock and a few moments later someone said to us, that was Bishop Casey, I guess he was in a great hurry. I also heard very good things said about this man, Yes he made some mistakes, but most people make mistakes during their lives
He used to drive around like Lord Bollucks! He was fla - ing all round him(a Cork expression) and I believe the Bishop on Father Ted was based on him. It didn't go down too well with the hypocrites and do gooders of Ireland at the time. What a complete c@#t.
You know she's going to write a bloody book about it..
