Marty's Mamma is everyone's Italian Mamma! The world is a much better place for it.
100%…. I would even add, everyone’s mamma period… she’s universal
@@esporevI was gonna say the same thing
@@esporev no not even close some of us have evil parents..
Make me miss my old friends
Any mom who likes to cook is my mom in law.
She was PERFECT in Goodfellas, you could tell she wasn’t even acting, that was just her and that’s why it worked so well. It felt like you were just watching a caring mother be a mother❤️
She completed the family as they all were truly family.
she's also in Casino

Big ups for ATLiens, doesn't always get the love (maybe because Aquemini is slightly better) but it's still absolutely one of the best albums of the 90s
I never knew she was Scorsese’s actual mama! She’s a true master of the craft of acting, literally a natural
Italianamericans, 1974 Scorsese
It's here on YT, it makes me happy watching it from time to time.
@@wilee.coyote1841 YES! Such a great doc 😊
And I'm just realizing now, how much he looks like his Ma'
IKR, I love her😊
His father is in it too. He's the one who shoots pesci
The scene in Goodfellas where the boys go into the kitchen and interact with her is one of my favorites in the film. Such a simple scene but it adds depth to the characters.
Same. And i never knew that was Scorseses mother. Shes a natural.
Yea like Henry realizing that his two best friends are remorseless killers who could eat a Hardy meal after beating a man to death they knew for years prior, when you put it in perspective and take away street code or man code bullshit, it makes no other sense than to rats these psychopaths out, but Hill in real life was nowhere near the level of cool Ray Liotta portrayed him as, here's a fun fact, the real Pauly fucks Karen Hill they have an affair, and then the real Tommy hears about it and then gose to try and rape Karen, with friends like that how could ya rat on a them.
Your right one of my favorite scenes as well. I got that painting in my living room.
It's so real ❤
Yeah Tommy needed a shovel and took the knife just in case😂😂😂
His mom had the most important quality for the movie she was authentic
His Father too ! That scene when Deniro played off of him on the phone, when he said "He's gone.. Ah, he's gone, and there was nothing we could do...That's it.". That was very realistic and all Martin told him, was not to say "He's dead."
@@Valkonnen
His father also played Vinny, the guy who put too many onions in the sauce.
@@vincepurpura8905 I Know. I bought his Moms China cabinet when Vinnie Vella was living in her apartment . My store was right around the corner from the apartment where Marty Grew up and I knew all of the characters like Vinnie Vella and Catherine Narducci.
She is one of the reasons this film seems real at times
Look who’s here look who’s here
@@johndough4289his parents weren't acting, they were being themselves. Those two scenes give it such authenticity.
I didn’t know she was his mom at first. When I first saw the film, I thought, it was really like a mother just being a mom. And that’s what it was.
@jessevang7618 same me too it's a trip she is his mom. She also was in the movie casino she was the mom of the big mouth guy in the store
@@friscoHub415 damn, she was
It's so sweet she's there to support him until he gets a proper career.
Well played sir hahahah
This had me chucklin out loud 😂

Wonderful. You can see Pesci made her genuinely smile and laugh with his quick witted comeback. ❤️😅
What are you talkin' about, Ma? I get a nice one almost every night.
She looks at the camera like "damn he got me there" 😂😂
I felt that too lol
When he says "and every morning I'm free", her smile is electric! So contageous
Her laugh when pesci kisses her is so wholesome and sweet.
Catherine Scorsese: the unsung heroine of the Scorsese Cinematic Universe.
Yeah no thanks we don’t need any more Disney or WB defined “cringe cinematic universes”. They’re just his films.
@@zetterburger I was being flippant, but you're also not wrong.
Get into it! 😂😂
Marty's mom is the person you wish you lived next door to
I wish she was my neighbor
I imagine she’d offer you a cannoli for mowing her lawn
Fuck next door. I wanna live with.
“One dog goes east one dog goes west SO WHAT?” Is one of my favourite lines in goodfellas, I never knew this was his mum aww ❤
"And this guy's over here like what do ya want from me?"
When she said “Mahty” I was warm inside. What a beautiful way to immortalize a loved one ❤
I had no idea about any of this. It's amazing how perfect she is in that role! It's not even acting for her. 😂
She really adds a lot to the movie imo. Them sitting for a meal with her with Billy in the trunk is absolutely shocking the first time you see it. It’s the amount the last things you expect to happen at that moment and there’s something about it that really shows the dissonance of the life they live. Her authenticity creates a texture to the world in the film as well. There’s no other scene that is as warm and wholesome in the movie and the juxtaposition is really phenomenal film making.
Me too and I remember that scène feeling so familiar and real.
His dad is in the film too. When they are in jail and the old man making the sauce is his dad. I PUT 3 SMALL ONIONS IN!
Well she is the mother of a rich gangster.
Awwwwww I never even knew that was his mom. I absolutely ADORED that scene in Goodfellas.
It gives nuance to the characters. You remember that they're not just heartless gangsters - they have families and doting mothers too. Great scene!
Lowkey got sad when she said “god be with you” right before Tommy leaves her house when he’s about to “Get made” or be made
And papa Scorsese is Vinny, the old guy making the sauce in prison
@@fixer1140I didn’t know that.
@@fixer1140nice!
She comes across so natural because she’s not thinking of her lines that get in the way of the acting. Because it’s complete improv on her part, she’s truly able to embrace the moment and act in it.
She was so outstanding in Goodfellas. I had a hunch that the scene must have been improvised as it seemed so natural. She didn't need to act as a mom, she was the mom in the scene.
Her character made it clear that these guys weren't vampires who killed and robbed people then went back to their lairs. They were guys from the neighborhood
They would still slit your throat if you were late in paying back any money you owed them.
Who killed and robbed and went back to their Pizzeria?
@@hughesey009The point is, obviously, they weren't some kind of out-of-this-world monsters. They were people. Wicked, violent, and ruthless people. But people.
@@fulalbatross Ted Bundy was "people" too.
@@chickenlover657 well he was actually a “person” not “people”
This is one of my favorite scenes with Ray Liotta. The smile he gives when she's handing out hugs. The way he answers her after he she says, "Henry, what's the matter? You don't talk too much." Katie is a perfect name for her personality.
The warmth in his eyes is so beautiful.
❤ I'VE ALWAYS LOVED RAY LIOTTA. SUCH A GREAT ACTOR, MAY HE REST IN PEACE 🕊❤
@@katymcginn4644 I loved him too as an actor ❤️ Gone too soon 😢
When I watch this part of the movie it reverses the age in the men.. Ray was 13, Joe was 18, DeNiro was 22.😂
Mama Scorsese is awesome in everything !
She's even in godfather 3 right? The lady that says zaza is ruining the neighbourhood.
He’s not awesome at making bad films tho
You’re right, he isn’t awesome at making bad films. Even when he tries to make bad ones, they somehow always turn out good.

I remember reading that Scorseses parents were actually the only ones on set for goodfellas that knew how to properly press the long spear point collars they wore and they did it regularly just to help out. Incredible.
She is perfect in that scene.
This woman gave birth to the greatest living director on the planet. You don't direct a woman like that, you put the camera on and let her do her thing.
He isn't the greatest living director.
@@vladislavno he’s definitely up at the top, and widely known as one of the best. You can know who Martin scorsese is without even watching his movies. With actors, that might be more common, but directors? You’ve got to be good to be a house hold name that everyone knows, everyone has heard of, everyone knows his movies, they were a staple and a huge part of peoples lives.
@@vladislavno So who do you think is the greatest?
@@vladislavno Yeah I'm curious as well. Lemme guess, "QuEnTin TaRinTiNo".
@@chickenlover657 doesn't matter. It's not Scorsese.
She was incredible in this. I never thought she was his real mom.
This movie is perfect on so many levels. Ive watched it a unhealthy amount of times😊
"Little did they know, Henry would do hell of a lotta talkin' later"
BAM!!! EXCELLENT 👍
🤣
Wow. Excellent spot. Never thought of that line as foreshadowing. It doesn't carry the same weight as Jimmy congratulating Henry as a kid for not snitching, but still.
All his talking Didn't save his brother Joe.
A year before he gets out of prison, I end up with his niece. Lucky me. Bad omen. Thank God we get along better now that we have grandkids
I didn’t know that was his mom. She is great. Seems so authentic to anyone who comes from an Italian American background, because she IS authentic.
Thats crazy she was literally just being herself and it worked out so well
A great director brings out the greatness in his actors. Or he is smart enough to stay the hell out of the way and catch the magic as it happens.
God Bless! That’s the most adorable thing! I watched this 5 times ❤
Her laugh after Joe Pesci's line was a genuine laugh...She the type of mother that can talk about whatever comes to her mind. Which is why Martin can say "action" and his mother is just herself.
When she basically breaks the 4th wall by smirking into the camera when Tommy says ‘I settle down almost every night’ is priceless.
She’s not about to break the 4th wall actually. There are people sat around the table and she is talking to them/him
She is looking at everyone at the table. People like you need to stop trying to create reality around you. It doesn't work that way. Reality doesn't need you to say what it is. It simply exists by itself.
@@michaels.330 Heavy, man.
@@annwhitely1111 there are four people at the table. She’s there, Tommy is next her, Henry is directly across from Tommy one the left side from our point of view and Jimmy in on the far right from our point of view… she looks Directly AT THE CAMERA before she shifts her eyes toward Jimmy… there is nobody at the table between Henry and Jimmy where the camera is. We could all use a woman like Catherine Scorsese in our lives
This is so beautiful you truly loved his mother❤
Wow. This is just amazing. Nice knowing the scenic motivation behind these memorable films.
For her timing to be 100% natural is so amazing to me
Her laughing like that is perfect 😂
She is the ingredient that adds a level of authenticity. These guys had mother’s who loved them and were normal just like your own mom, but in the dark about what their sons did (intentionally or not)
As a kid watching his mom in the film I really felt at home for a second, like she was so sweet and funny, I guess she reminded me of my grandma. ❤ I love the scenes with her in any of his movies.
Damn son, I didn't even realize that was Scorsese's mom or even that all of her parts were improvised. I would love to see a supercut of all her film parts and all of the alternate takes for them. I did wonder just how this elderly woman was able to tie some of these scenes together with Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta in a way that feels entirely organic. I guess she was just being exactly like her authentic self and there was really no acting even happening. What an incredible legacy.
Yep totally, she was technically so necessary.
Italian moms and Mexican moms and grandmas are golden in terms of motherly love
She is also in the movie Casino

"I love you... I wanna be with you"
Marty is a lucky man to have had a mom like her.
I am too.
Miss you mom.
Her non-pretentious portrayals always enhanced her son’s films so much. ❤
I found that scene heartearming and didn't know that it was improvised. Now I admire that even more and understand where the realness of that scene comes from.
Wow... that's why she was so authentic!! Because she was herself... loved her! She makes me want to give my Nana a big hug and kiss! I miss her so much
Damn! That was such a good scene. Scorcese's mother is a natural actor.
Your Mom is adorable! I saw these movies years ago and I loved her, never knew who she was.
That's wholesome. Also the scene where tommy borrows the knife, such a weird contrast from the moms little world in her house to what those guys are all actually doing
I can't love this anymore than I already do. It's so pure and real. She wasn't even acting.
Marty, you had the award that topped an Oscar, your Mother. I could sit and listen to her for hours.
I miss Ray Liotta.. what a gorgeous guy! This is one of my most favorite movies!
I wish my mother were like this in terms of sweetness
She is the mama everyone wishes they had!☺
You're spot on!
Yep cares about your health and relationships without being too nosy about it.
I do have that mother
I love this. That woman is so genuine!
"One's going east and the other's going west, so what?"
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite scene of her is in Casino in their Delicatessen and her reaction to her son swearing 🤬 😅 "take it easy...you'll give yourself a heart attack" with the hands
Cant believe this was improvised? It looked scripted. I thought Henry was quiet🤫 analysing Tommy on how he can be a 2 face with his mother acting innocent in front of her but when he leaves her he turns into a Monster with the Mafia family.
He looks so much like his mom
Wow that was his mom ❤️ loved her
The real genius of this scene is that you are left asking yourself 'How well does this mother know her son?'. Does this sweet woman have any idea that she's cooking for a bunch of stone killers? Disturbing.
I had a grandmother just like Mama Scorsese, the kindest, gentlest person I ever met.
Yup. She is later seen saying how proud she was of Tommy for getting made, implying that she knew damn well.
Just like the taxi episode with Louie and his mom , when she blows smoke in his face. It's my all-time favorite episode 😂 she was a natural, just like this mom.
She is one of those mothers that child deserves ♡♡♡
She really gives the movie a soft touch and makes the characters more relatable
She reminds me so much of the Italians from her generation here in New Orleans.
Just really great, friendly people. Many opened restaurants, and most all of them were great cooks.
Something about having her in the film to say wha ever just makes the scenes unique and her so much more wholesome.
Turns his mother on doesn't sound right 😂
Reminds me of my very Italian great aunt out in Massachusetts. She's a spitfire.
She was great . The interaction was so real because it was !!!
What an absolutely iconic role amongst such an iconic movie. R.I.P.
Mom and dad were both in Goodfellas, ultimate respect
Is the older woman commenting possibly Thelma Schoonmaker?
The way she responds to her son cursing in Casino was hysterical.

She proved, you don't need acting lessons or acting school. Amazing.
"And all Marty does is he just turns his mother on"
Wait what?!!
They left out the best line in the whole scene! It’s right after they cut it here! She reminds me of every Italian friend’s Mother in North Jersey. I love her.
I remember when my step-father left us a few months before Thanksgiving and it was just mom, me and my brother(ours girlfriends), so we invited our friends and their families over. And it was the best holiday I’ve ever had
It’s clear that Liotta wasn’t as comfortable improvising as everyone else in that kitchen scene. When I first saw it I didn’t understand it’s contribution to the movie but later after finding out more, it became one of my favorites in the movie.
To be fair I think his uncomfortablity is within the character since he's got a what he thinks is dead guy in the trunk of his car.
You completely misinterpreted Liotta’s mood in the scene. His silence is as amazing as the improvisation of the other actors. Unlike his 2 companions he’s concern about what they’ve done and thinking of the repercussions. A lesser actor would of felt the need to jump in there and try to shine.
I think it’s to highlight their personalities immediately after murdering a guy.
Tommy is manic and unfazed by it, highlighting his psychotic nature.
Jimmy is calm, showing how experienced he is with situations like this.
And Henry is very very quiet, almost unable to enjoy the dinner and conversation after witnessing what happened
@@darudesandstrom1067 Exactly.
His silence is greefing not being a family man that he thought he wanted but he indeed longed for.

This was probably one of the best scenes in the entire movie, almost unbelievable she wasn’t an actress before
That's his mother?? Aww!! I love her in this movie. She's wonderful. You'd never know she wasn't an actor.
She was wonderful in Goodfellas, a very convincing Italian mother who actually is an Italian mother. lol
