"They (battleships) like to just keep pushing to this objective" except for the majority of the battleships I meet in battle (on my team) which just prefer to camp all day and stay at max range 24/7...
Hey Ichase, remember me from your Alaska Video? Well I am here to say that this is literally the perfect example of how the Alaska will possibly work! I feel that the Scharnhorst is so closely related to the Alaska. But there is a difference. Scharnhorst: 18 in side armour and 11 in guns. Alaska: Heavy Cruiser Armour and 12 in guns. Basically same secondaries. So yes this is a very good and possible candidate for how the Alaska will be in this game. :)
Same with the HMS Warspite, she scored a hit at 24 km, but the range ingame is really low and you can't equip a range module like with the NM/Arizona. At least the guns are accurate...
Loved the fact that in a Scharnhorst you sunk an aircraft carrier, just like she did in history. Nice rewiew as well Chase :) this is really a beautiful ship
Hmmmm, that's some nice looking German engineering. And torpedoes, I'm gonna love this. Although my bank account says NO! But money doesn't buy happiness right?
+WindmillStalker really I think my collection of premiums does the same thing as coke and hookers Krispy Kremé doesn't qualify because I didn't even buy her or bother to look at her
Well, these cruisers had been partially designed to cut off trade convoys in the atlantic from reaching their british customers. Trade convoys are guarded by destroyers, armed trade ships and a few cruisers. So essentially a battle group suited for this task needs to be fast and at least one ship which can hold the pace of a cruiser but outgun and outlive any cruiser. And that's what this ship is, a bigger and meaner cruiser than had been built up to this time. I once had a fight 1vs1 with an ARP Kongo in my New Orleans (Kongo obviously a Division Fail) and won it with relative ease because she showed me her broadside and I presented solely my bow, letting almost every shot of her ricochet - her secondaries made me worry, though. At the start I had just 8k HP left. So I used my six barrels up front to pummel her with AP - end of story. I guess playing a Scharnhorst would be roughly equal. Like, for instance, taking a T9-heavy cruiser into a T6-battle. Speaking of heavy cruisers, I'm still a bit sad that the Deutschland-class didn't make it into the game. That would've been a good T6-cruisers due to it's paper armour, relatively slow speed and powerful, but few guns. If the Dunkerque will be T6, this would absolutely justify the placing of the Deutschland-class, since the Dunkerque had been developed to best these ships and hunt them down.
That harrassing --> decisive engagement pattern, I think that's what happens with the Tirpitz as well? In a way, these two premium German BBs are very similar.
always love your reviews ichase :) the message that popped up towards the begining of the review reminded me you had been unwell in the last few days. It's great to hear your voice back to its usual excellent standard and i hope you are very much better now. If not, get well soon and rest easy, keep doing your great vids and i'll keep doing my bit by adding 1 view and 1 thumbs up to each of them :)
Thank you for the awesome support ^^ much appreciate it. I'm recovering, voice is luckily not affected any more, but some not so fun side effects from the antibiotics, oh well, at least it's working :)
tis what we like to hear :) just always remember to look after yourself otherwise how will you be able to create such great and informative videos for all ~46k subscribers, not including all the hundreds you must get a day :) looking forward to your Dunquerke review and any other videos you have in the works
Great review as always. Looking very much forward to getting this ship. I'll admit I'm bit puzzled why there wasn't more focus on her secondary guns and secondary gun builds on her, though. At tier 7, she's at the first tier where Manual Secondaries becomes good, and she's loaded with all HE guns with good fire chance, without a doubt best at her tier. In brawling range (7.6km), she can light up another battleship from stem to sterm really quickly, forcing them to use damage control and putting them into a position where they won't be able to fix the flooding from the torps right after. Plus having hyper accurate HEs would be DDs worst nightmare.
Sounds like I'm going to love this ship. The way you describe to play her is how I play my Tirpitz. Since the dispersion is awful on that, I'll be use to this one. :)
Sigh, I'm looking for another Nikolay at higher tier. I simply cannot find the battleship with 4 or more triple batteries of accurate, high caliber weapons. I'm looking to replicate same feeling of superior Russian gunnery. I mean, huge, accurate salvos.
Just killed a Scharnhorst with Saipan divebombers. 2 flights, 8 hits 34k damage. it is very vulnerable to Bombs and i didnt really loose many planes either. The float fighter is not a match for Saipan bombers.
According to the "Encyclopedia of the world's warships" (Hugh Lyon, 1978) , the Scharnhorst's main belt armour was 170-250mm thick. The entry says "The German Admiralty was wise to insist that they (the Scharnhorsts) did not engage even an old capital ship, for their armour...was totally inadequate against heavy calibre shells." This makes sense given that they were designed in response to the French Dunkerques, which had medium thickness armour. It makes no sense at all that the Scharnhorsts were better armoured than the Bismarck class, but it seems to have become an established fact (or at least an internet fact, no guide to truth.) From an engineering perspective, the idea that the Scharnhorsts were 3 knots faster than the Bismarcks, and had significantly better armour, on 10,000 tons less displacement, is frankly incredible. The 350 mm figure is clearly wrong.
The Tirpitz is a good cruiser killer, with its lack of penetration, it can and should be targeting cruisers, not battleships and it can turn its turrets fast so it can deal with cruisers coming close and its secondaries are extremely deadly
ichase, try this build. basic survivability, torp armerment, superintendent, adv fire training, and demo expert, 16 fires and a dead izumo and iowa :P scharn is a good HE ship
I mean to stir no trouble or cause a flamewar, but I just discovered your channel and I've got to say, this review was much better in comparisons to Jingle's review. In his it seems like he just says don't buy unless your skilled, shows a few battles of him killing a few cruisers, and that's that, but you actually show its playstyle. Keep up the good work :)
I honestly only ever watch the Historical part of Jingles ship reviews anymore. It has become obvious that he often times does not know as much as he should, especially about WOWS as a game. iChase, Notser, Aeroon, Flamu, and VoulezVous - even PointyHairedJedi are ALL far more knowledgeable about the game, and as such provide MUCH better and more comprehensive reviews on the strengths and weaknesses of any given ship! Jingles tells good historical background, apart from that - I have a hard time watching him when about every 2 minutes or less he says something incorrect - and I have a hard time not writing a comment saying "Actually Jingles, if you had taken a few minutes to look at the stats you would have known *this* is a totally incorrect statement!" And UNLIKE iChase's, Notser, Aeroon, PHJ, and to a lesser extent Flamu, Jingles NEVER ANSWERS ANYTHING! I still find entertainment value in some of his videos, but I don't watch him even 1/3 as much as I used to.
I wonder about Scharnhorst's Fire Reduction modifier, because the Tirpitz effectively serves as a floating barbecue for my Atago, and ESPECIALLY my Kutuzov! As in my Kutuzov I can keep firing at them from EXTREME range accurately, where if and when they try to fire back all I need to do usually is change speed and course as I sail. But overall? TAKE MY MONIES NAO WARGAMING!!! She has a listed gold cost of 9500, just 500 more than that of the Atlanta, so she should cost riiiiight around $42 - $44 without any discount or bundle. So I should be able to afford her, I never bought the Tirpitz as she never appealed to me that greatly, I generally do not like Battleships, but Scharnhorst is a Battlecruiser, with INSANELY fast turret traverse, good speed, decent protection - and very nice HIGH VELOCITY 283mm guns that do consistent AP damage, with torpedoes that will be usable and effective at times! Sounds Like VERY MUCH GOOD TIMES TO BE HAD!! XD
Nice review and at least you sound a lot better than in the smith review vid, I'hope you recover from that very quickly! Any idea when you may review the Dunkerque (As being Dutch we still call it Duinkerken ;) )
Thanks :) I'm recovering, antibiotics have some not so great side effects, but at least it doesn't affect my voice (yay!) Dunk review will come with comes :P
WOW! I Am LOVING WG's newer bundles! Scharnhorst alone = $42.99 Scharnhorst + 1 month premium + ALL the equipment you recommend = $47.99! A month of premium alone is $12, and all 4 pieces of equipment costs around 5 million credits, all this for just FIVE dollars more! I WILL be pulling the trigger on that bundle later today!
Another thing iChace... Have you think a serie about I like to call "What if..." like "What if... Scharnhorst vs Tirpitz" Both have similar armour and guns and I have had my ass handed to me by Scharnhorst because her loading time. What if New York vs Texas... ect. (Those we just a decree's of comparison. Such a close comparison's are not needed) Think about it, OK?
lol the carrier sniping right off in this match, ive noticed that in alot of ur games.. and behold.. half the time non of the attacks sink the enemy first go. lol
what you didn't consider with the captain skills is manual AA, which is also an option for the Tirpitz. I currently don't use, but you can really buff up your AA with that, since it only affects high calibre AA guns an that is exactly where your AA strengh is concentrated.
That AA buff isn't all to helpful because Germany didn't really have reliable dual purpose guns unlike the Americans which all of the ships have great AA Germany is a maybe but not a yes
Commander_Dixon what the Germans had and what is implemented are two different stories. The Tirpitz' short and medium range AA in WoWs is pretty bad, while the long range AA is fairly decent. that's why I said manual AA is an option for the Scharnhorst and Tirpitz.
@iChaseGaming Just curious. At about 19:00 you get set on fire and let the fire burn. I know you can heal some of your damage back but I usually put fires out right away. Saving the repair for maybe losing a turret or torps or something?
My wallet hates Wargaming.. it really does. Will be interested to see how she compares against Gneisenau. And if the first hull Gneisenau will have the same 13" guns with the 15" ones being a B or C hull (which would make sense to me).
Gneisenau will not have the 11" 3x3 guns. She will have the same 15" guns as the Tirpitz in 3 turrets with a setup of 3x2. Even though this isn't historically accurate it still remains Wargaming's goal to make profit. If she came with both types of guns there would be no point in a premium Scharnhorst, all you'd be buying is a name.
Gneisenau's 38cm guns are accurate, in a way. The Kriegsmarine did plan to fit the Scharnhorst Class with 38cm guns, however, WWII took a different route, and the refit never came to be. Also, as an interesting fact: The Soviet Unión purchased 38cm guns, along their turrets, from Germany, in order to use them in their Khronstadt and Stalingrad battlecruisers, which never came to be either. So, if we see a Soviet BB line (which we probably will), do expect to see the Khronstadt or the Stalingrad, maybe they'll follow the same route as they're taking right now; take one of the designs, get 38cm gun turrets on it, and sell it as a Premium, while the other one gets different weaponry, or vice-versa - I'm only speculating this, because both designs were similar in terms of purpose and armor.
***** There would still be ways to differentiate them and make the primium desirable moreover than just having the named ship. Visa vis New York and Texas, Wyoming and Arkansas, Tirpitz and Bismarck, all having identical main armament but slightly different configurations lending to different play styles. Such as the epic AA on the Texas, the lack of any AA on the Arkansas, etc.
Great review as always :) I have one question, if I had to buy either the Scharnhorst or the Atago which one would you recommend? my play style is that of a bb brawler and need a ship that gives me lots of credits.
Ships looks awesome. Btw. I havent heard any youtuber pronounce Tirpitz right yet. Its pronounced "Tierpitz" as in Tier Ten etc. The "pitz" part is right :) Keep up going strong at those vids!
Great vid as always Chase! If I have the Tirpitz already (and I love her) is it worthwhile to buy the Scharnhorst? Is there a different enough playstyle to warrant it or do they play very similarly?
Do you know how Scharnhorst was sunken. Really brutal stuff. Huge loss of life. It was sunken out of northern Norway, in freezing waters. Here in Norway they made a documentary on the Sharnhorst.
The USN fans will just have to wait for the Alaska's *grin*. I like this ship. It's going to force players against it to pay attention. Awesome ship for those that know when to be aggressive and when to fence at a distance.
Damn fine looking ship. Probably going to pass on this one, bought too many premiums and I think the price tag will be a lil too high. There's a lower tier German premium in the works as well, right? Konig Albert? That one might be for me. I *would* like to have a German trainer when the new line comes out, something other than the Emden. Thanks for the thorough review!
Those 11-inch guns are looking pretty good, I must say. Although, I can't quite understand why her sister Gneisnau doesn't have an option for those 11-inch guns, instead wielding 15-inchers. I mean, I'm all for 15-inch guns, don't get me wrong. But why not have the option of those 11-inch guns? The Scharnhorst-class battlecruisers (as we all know) were originally fitted with 11-inch artillery. Ah well. Still waiting for the German BBs as (im)patiently as ever. Great review, iChase. o/
Thanks :D I think they wanted to make Gnei and Scharn different :P also Gnei fits the tech tree gun size progression well so I think that's why they went with that
I suppose that makes sense. Now I'm trying to come up with some sort of comparison involving the Mogami, which comes stock with 155mm guns and has the option of 203mm guns. Most people tend to stick with the 155mm guns, because a) faster RoF, b) more guns per turret, which means c) more chance of setting fires? Despite the 203's potentially better AP performance and faster turret speeds, setting fires is all that really seems to matter now. I don't know. Myoko's still the farthest I've reached up the Japanese cruiser line, which all only get 203mm guns, except for Mogami. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
keep on bringin that stuf......i think your video about scharnhost makes me spend some mroe bucks to WG. one Question====>which mod u use on the scharnhorst video?
So I played the scharnhorst last night for the first time and I noticed that she was having problems pinning battleships. So I had the bright Idea lets pretend Im shooting HE and shoot my AP shells at the superstructure. Results are a 10k damage salvo on and amagi and 7-8k salvos on a bismark. This ship is OP as fuck in the right hands.
AWWW YISSSS THANK YOU iChase for releasing this as soon as the NDA is lifted. anyway 1 question when i brawl with her, should i shoot enemy at main belt, or the upper belt armor? can she citadel a nagato, colorado or other bb equal/higher tiered? please answer me, it would made my day
one more iChase. i heard about an AP normalization change coming in 0.5.10 how is this going to affect her, will this be a huge nerf for her or just some minor change i wouldn't notice? people say her normalization will be nerfed from 8 degree to 6 degree. will you do some update video if this does greatly affected her?
+iChaseGaming i would swap aft for manual aa as that is what makes german bb aa dps good a derpitz without it is fresh meat for a cv one with it was is kinda scary to equal tier cvs. even t9 loose quite a few planes.
I struggle with the Scharnhorst. When fighting cruisers I seem to mostly overpen for little damage. Should I be using HE on cruisers instead? I did citadel a Kirov with HE the other day.
iChase, I subscribed your channel for almost two weeks now, but I cannot receive notice of any of the videos you posted. I searched so hard on Google to find this one. Such a great video! I always have a question to ask you: for a Yamato, is scout plane a better choice or catapult fighter?
iChase, for a Yamato, is scout plane a better choice or catapult fighter? By the way, I love you PG 13 joke in Nautical Tales, the one you did at midnight :)
Actually what comes to my mind is, how good is the KMS Scharnhorst in the Credit income role? Hearing that at the moment the Tirpitz is the best Ship to get Credits. Also @Ichasegaming good review on the ship, found it gratifying, would appreciate to see some high tier playing with it tho. Greetings from Germany ;)
iChase, how do the main guns perform against other Scharnhosts? when the public gets their hands on them, it will be like when the Tirpitz first went on sale all over again
So between Scharnhorst and Tirptiz, which would you recommend to get? Considering their unique perks compared to their tech tree counterparts(Geneisnau and Bismarck).
I think that in a two carrier match with two enemy Texas's in sight you should really be firing HE in the first volleys. It would really help your team to take out as many of those 40s as possible. A New York class's superstructure won't handle the HE any better than the AP, and you won't be getting any citadels anyway. Also If he had gotten basic fire training he would have shot down quite a few more planes in support during that opening attack on CV. The mid range sucks so you have to buff it as much as possible.
YEAH Scharnhorst i've been dying for a review on her, she's the queen of the German navy. I can't wait to buy her. by the way chase i was wondering, if they're having the Scharnhorst as a premium ship do you think they'll introduce the Graf Spee as a premium? As always awesome video i've been catching up on all your videos, your sail'n chat #18 sounded pretty crazy.as always can't wait for your next video.
+FreakinBoom the Spee probably won't become a premium since it is already confirmed that Prinz Eugen will be the first tier 8 premium cruiser of the german line. The chance of having two hippers as premium is ridiculously low.
Hi iChase! Looks like a player called Aquitanic appeared in that first clip...perhaps next time we play at the same time, I won't be on the enemy team 3 or 4 times in a row again. xD
IChase what do you think about focusing scharnhorst on secondaries? Changing concealment on manual secondaries, and give him additional module for secondaries?
iChase, how do you feel German BBs will fitt in to the already wierd BB world? With this agile ships, isnt it a risk that people will only play German BB´s amd they loose out om balance?
Guys, guys, Im just sayin that the Scharnhorst reminded me of the Alaska and that I want the Alaska in the game. Im not trying to instigate an argument about stats, nor do I want to be in one :P
I wish WG would module the strength of the hulls in WoWS along side the armor because the Germans and Russians didn't have the ship building experience of the Brits, Americans, and even a few French ships. While German ships didn't often sink out right from hits they often caused so much damage that parts of the ship failed to work which was compound by WW1 lay outs of the machinery and building techniques they both used. Same goes for American torp fail rates and Brit with their generally poor habitably and low sea ranges.
Fun Fact: Graf Spee once disguised as a Scharnhorst to confuse British naval intelligence during her rampage in the Atlantic.
they even put on a fake turret
+ancient wisdome, and it was MADE OF CHEEEEEEEEESE!!!!!!
(Jk im just bored.)
That is not true. The Graf Spee should look like a english cruiser, so they can sneaking up enemy cargo ships and get in close range.
Werent they tryying to look like frogs cruiser?
that's something the germans did pretty well. In WW 1 one cruiser disguised herself as an english cruiser and even was rearmed and refueled in a commonwealth port.
Holy shit, that turret traverse on a BATTLESHIP?
Take my money take all my money PLEASE
ikr, its faster than some cruisers, especially the mogami. not that thats hard....
Scharnhorst was designed as a battlecruiser ;)
Well, the turrets may turn fast, and they will also reload fast... but with those "small" shells, there will be alot of bounces vs angled armour. Even on some cruiser armour...
Burn them to death then, with HE, until they show you their broadside.
burn to death and HE not too fair and not nessecary.
if i see good sharn AP good any ship ,just one tip if enemy BB angled aim her supertructer with AP belive me i playing cruisers and this tactic most of the time work.
WHOOOOO! SHCARNHORST!
*looks at emtpy wallet*
*sobs in my corner*
Awww Kitsune :( *pat pat*
Cookie? :,(
DerLoLAp ...cookies? I like cookies! =D
+Kitsune legend how about a free smith
I will be the first one who bankrupted for building a german fleet.
this ship fixes my problems i have with battleships: slow speed slow turret traverse long reload
When I saw the vid go up my first thought was "Oh Jingles will be such a salty old sailor now" :D
Lol, the content creators for NA are bound by a very strict NDA and we don't release content without the go ahead
well jingles and rita don't care or just don't know. They even don't like it when a WG employee plays stuff that's under NDA. Pure Kindergarten.
Thats WoT now WoWS though. Totally different crews. World of Tanks NA is all about making themselves the employees superstars. They don't care at all about community contributors. WOT EU and it looks like WoWS NA are the exact opposite.
Huh? What are you on about?
you mean me? Well first Ritas blogpost about that livestream from a WG NA guy, where he played a premium tank that's still under NDA, at least in EU and than Jingles video where he also complains about the same thing and that NA youtuber put so many WoWS videos online about german BBs while it is also under NDA. Between all of that, they can only come up with how bad WG NA is, etc..
What a ship! I finally got her today as my first premium. Never had so much fun in this game. Best ship ever.
Wargaming: Introducing the Scharnhorst! She can...
Me: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
that is one nice slick looking battleship!
I'm going for a secondary build. Should be fun once my Roon captain gets their 15th point.
just got this during the sale and i love citting cruisers. need to update the setup on this as they have changed since this review was made.
You have the MODs pegged right on the for her. She plays like a BC. Good speed, very good rudder shift and dispersion I can work with. I love her.
Overall, the gameplay shown here is exactly as I imagined it to be for this ship, and I am very much going to consider purchasing this!
"They (battleships) like to just keep pushing to this objective"
except for the majority of the battleships I meet in battle (on my team) which just prefer to camp all day and stay at max range 24/7...
Then even easier :P no worries, just push out their flank and kill them from behind
well... since she hit HMS Glorious at over 26 KM I think they have screwed the range and dispersion something fierce
Same with the HMS Warspite, she scored a hit at 24 km, but the range ingame is really low and you can't equip a range module like with the NM/Arizona. At least the guns are accurate...
That’s how all ships in the game are
Loved the fact that in a Scharnhorst you sunk an aircraft carrier, just like she did in history. Nice rewiew as well Chase :) this is really a beautiful ship
Thanks :)
I'm glad i took your advice and bought this ship, most fun i've ever had in a BB.
that moment when the pensacola, a similar tier cruiser has worse detectibility than a battleship
Hmmmm, that's some nice looking German engineering. And torpedoes, I'm gonna love this. Although my bank account says NO!
But money doesn't buy happiness right?
No money doesn't buy happies
Money buys hookers and cocaine though, which is pretty much the next best thing
+WindmillStalker really I think my collection of premiums does the same thing as coke and hookers Krispy Kremé doesn't qualify because I didn't even buy her or bother to look at her
Money buys Scharnhorst.
Money can't buy happiness.
But it can get you pretty damned close.
Well, these cruisers had been partially designed to cut off trade convoys in the atlantic from reaching their british customers. I threw a 20oz gold bar at my screen now I need a new screen. Thanks Chase!
quick go trade the gold bar for a ultrawide, curved monitor and change, then buy a Scharnhorst :D
That harrassing --> decisive engagement pattern, I think that's what happens with the Tirpitz as well? In a way, these two premium German BBs are very similar.

I'm starting to see why the super testers thought this thing was OP before it had its stats changed
Great review as always. Looking very much forward to getting this ship.
I'll admit I'm bit puzzled why there wasn't more focus on her secondary guns and secondary gun builds on her, though. Secondary build is totally viable too :) depends on the playstyle of the individual player

Was really hoping for an alternate 9 11 incher turret setup for the Gneisenau. The Myogi didn't exactly win me over with its 6 gun layout.
by far my favorite ship to play, although I tend to give up on AP against BBs and just bring the HE.
Really nice video Chase. I recommend your channel to everyone I know who plays because of the consistently high quality. gg
Thank you ^_^ appreciate the support!
Awesome review! Definitely going to try and purchase the Scharnhorst. BTW did they also added the Gneisenau on world of warships? Thx
I was so hoping that she would be a Prem, and have the 11.1 inch trips instead of the 6-15 inches.
Just killed a Scharnhorst with Saipan divebombers. 2 flights, 8 hits 34k damage. it is very vulnerable to Bombs and i didnt really loose many planes either. The float fighter is not a match for Saipan bombers.
Those Secondaries look to be really good...
Chase please make review for the dunkerque if its available :)
Hell yea
+
Not yet :P
When can we expect a Dunkerque review Chase? I've been waiting a long time, I don't know how long I can hold out XP
According to the "Encyclopedia of the world's warships" (Hugh Lyon, 1978) , the Scharnhorst's main belt armour was 170-250mm thick. From an engineering perspective, the idea that the Scharnhorsts were 3 knots faster than the Bismarcks, and had significantly better armour, on 10,000 tons less displacement, is frankly incredible. The 350 mm figure is clearly wrong.
The Tirpitz is a good cruiser killer, with its lack of penetration, it can and should be targeting cruisers, not battleships and it can turn its turrets fast so it can deal with cruisers coming close and its secondaries are extremely deadly
RIP Nagato's pre-nerf rudder shift. And they made the secondaries smaller...
ichase, try this build. basic survivability, torp armerment, superintendent, adv fire training, and demo expert, 16 fires and a dead izumo and iowa :P scharn is a good HE ship
Chase does better reviews, but i enjoy watching jingles a lot more. Hes more funny and chill imo
Jingles tells good historical background, apart from that - I have a hard time watching him when about every 2 minutes or less he says something incorrect - and I have a hard time not writing a comment saying "Actually Jingles, if you had taken a few minutes to look at the stats you would have known *this* is a totally incorrect statement!"
And UNLIKE iChase's, Notser, Aeroon, PHJ, and to a lesser extent Flamu, Jingles NEVER ANSWERS ANYTHING!
I still find entertainment value in some of his videos, but I don't watch him even 1/3 as much as I used to.
Dysphoricsmile
well said
I wonder about Scharnhorst's Fire Reduction modifier, because the Tirpitz effectively serves as a floating barbecue for my Atago, and ESPECIALLY my Kutuzov!
Great vid Chase! When might we see the German BB tech tree overview?
WOW! I Am LOVING WG's newer bundles!
Scharnhorst alone = $42.99
Scharnhorst + 1 month premium + ALL the equipment you recommend = $47.99!
A month of premium alone is $12, and all 4 pieces of equipment costs around 5 million credits, all this for just FIVE dollars more!
I WILL be pulling the trigger on that bundle later today!
You take my Scharnhorst away from me over my dead and bleeding body. I love this ship :-)
I just found Ichase on a game, YAY!
I took your advice Chase---I threw money at the screen but I didn't get my Scharnhorst
Furutaka has with the stock Kannons 22 seconds reload
lol the carrier sniping right off in this match, ive noticed that in alot of ur games.. and behold.. half the time non of the attacks sink the enemy first go. lol
guys... I JUST GOT THE SHIP FROM SUPER CONTAINER! OMG
No one cares
Katyusha Voroshilov guys... I JUST GOT THE SHIP FROM CREDIT CARD! OMG
Katyusha Voroshilov guys... I JUST READ THIS COMMENT
Khanh Nguyen OMG
Nice
what you didn't consider with the captain skills is manual AA, which is also an option for the Tirpitz.
+Commander_Dixon You can go look up the stats for the KM BBs on the WoWS wiki. The Bismarck has around the same AA DPS as the N. Carolina.
Commander_Dixon
what the Germans had and what is implemented are two different stories.
WOWs really needs to do the British fleet next, and or German DDs. Hopefully French, and or Italian in the next year.
Next year will appear the british ships, I'm sure of that, the Nelson Class will be my favorite ship.
I would like to see the Gneisenau's speed on the Scharnhorst
My wallet hates Wargaming.. it really does.
Will be interested to see how she compares against Gneisenau. And if the first hull Gneisenau will have the same 13" guns with the 15" ones being a B or C hull (which would make sense to me).
11" guns
Very different playstyles, kind of unique and should be a good buy
Do you know how Scharnhorst was sunken. Really brutal stuff. Huge loss of life. It was sunken out of northern Norway, in freezing waters. Here in Norway they made a documentary on the Sharnhorst.
Yep, Battle of the North Cape, sunk by a British Task Force around HMS Duke of York, sad loss of life :(
The USN fans will just have to wait for the Alaska's *grin*. I like this ship. It's going to force players against it to pay attention. Awesome ship for those that know when to be aggressive and when to fence at a distance.
Thinking it will be out by the end of the week.
in summary this ship is perfect to wonder around with Atlanta and Cleveland (and Tirpitz).
Thanks for the thorough review!
how good is the penetration on cruiser armour ? heard the 283mm bounced on angled cruiser of equal tiers ? that true ?
18:09 RIP that minekaze lmao
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Good or bad, she sure is pretty.
Keep up the good work, Chase & good to hear you sounding better.
Thanks :) yup recovering, luckily doesn't affect my voice much so videos can still be made :)
Thanks for all of the info as always!
You're welcome :)
Thinking about it is like the Atlanta small guns quick reload tier 7
Maybe I am confused but... Wasn't Scharnhorst faster than Tirpitz? Why in game this is exactly the opposite?
Balancing reasons probably
hmm.... ugly. Will they eventually follow the "Iowa" balancing process? :-p
keep on bringin that stuf......i think your video about scharnhost makes me spend some mroe bucks to WG. one Question====>which mod u use on the scharnhorst video?
This sounds like a review of a up armord york (not a bad thing i loved that wierd ship)
AWWW YISSSS THANK YOU iChase for releasing this as soon as the NDA is lifted. anyway 1 question when i brawl with her, should i shoot enemy at main belt, or the upper belt armor? can she citadel a nagato, colorado or other bb equal/higher tiered? please answer me, it would made my day
If up close, AP main belt if broadside. Against equal and higher tier BBs she'll struggle with citadels, so at range harass them with HE
thank you iChase, i cant wait for her. anyway hope you're feeling better now
one more iChase. i heard about an AP normalization change coming in 0.5.10 how is this going to affect her, will this be a huge nerf for her or just some minor change i wouldn't notice? people say her normalization will be nerfed from 8 degree to 6 degree. will you do some update video if this does greatly affected her?
25:40 You basically describe what a Battlecruiser is; to take out cruisers.
Project 1047 battle cruiser was based on the scharnhorst.
+iChaseGaming i would swap aft for manual aa as that is what makes german bb aa dps good a derpitz without it is fresh meat for a cv one with it was is kinda scary to equal tier cvs. even t9 loose quite a few planes.
I think i found a sentence with 7 reallys :D But nice review anyway :) ... now I just need money
I struggle with the Scharnhorst. When fighting cruisers I seem to mostly overpen for little damage. Should I be using HE on cruisers instead? I did citadel a Kirov with HE the other day.
those things that you can citadel by using HE only limited to CLs and CVs
iChase, I subscribed your channel for almost two weeks now, but I cannot receive notice of any of the videos you posted. I searched so hard on Google to find this one. Such a great video!
I always have a question to ask you: for a Yamato, is scout plane a better choice or catapult fighter?
Thank you for the support, that's strange...I wonder if the notification system is broken or something?
iChase, for a Yamato, is scout plane a better choice or catapult fighter?
By the way, I love you PG 13 joke in Nautical Tales, the one you did at midnight :)
Good review, I have a question, amagi is a good battleship?,should I buy? I do not like his armor
She's a premium ship, her credit gains should be pretty good :)
As for higher tier play, she goes from more battleship play to basically being a super cruiser
iChase, how do the main guns perform against other Scharnhosts? when the public gets their hands on them, it will be like when the Tirpitz first went on sale all over again
Should do fine, might not citadel, but penetration damage shouldn't be too hard to get. Also HE is always the answer for anything AP won't work on lol
Ok so similar to how a Tirpitz fights against itself, thx for the heads
So between Scharnhorst and Tirptiz, which would you recommend to get? Considering their unique perks compared to their tech tree counterparts(Geneisnau and Bismarck).
Ooooh...good question, I think personally if I wanted something very different I'd get the Scharnhorst, just feels more fun to me
I'm just going to wait to the French Battleship comes up because I want that French battleship that thing turns like a cruiser and goes 29.5 knots
When the time comes I'll have a video for that too
iChaseGaming that ship is awesome
I think that in a two carrier match with two enemy Texas's in sight you should really be firing HE in the first volleys. It would really help your team to take out as many of those 40s as possible. A New York class's superstructure won't handle the HE any better than the AP, and you won't be getting any citadels anyway.
Also If he had gotten basic fire training he would have shot down quite a few more planes in support during that opening attack on CV. The mid range sucks so you have to buff it as much as possible.
You can get citadels on new york class though, he even showed that you can at one point
Pomeranian At under 6k, not at 18
HaqqAttak I assumed you meant at all
Is that a seal clubbing division down under?
If the next season of ranked battles come out the same as the last season will this be a popular ship for midrank ranked battles?
I would think so, she should be quite dangerous in ranked
YEAH Scharnhorst i've been dying for a review on her, she's the queen of the German navy. I can't wait to buy her. by the way chase i was wondering, if they're having the Scharnhorst as a premium ship do you think they'll introduce the Graf Spee as a premium? As always awesome video i've been catching up on all your videos, your sail'n chat #18 sounded pretty crazy.as always can't wait for your next video.
Not sure about the Spee to be honest. You're super welcome and it's good to see familiar names in my comments section :D
+FreakinBoom the Spee probably won't become a premium since it is already confirmed that Prinz Eugen will be the first tier 8 premium cruiser of the german line. The chance of having two hippers as premium is ridiculously low.
Hi iChase! Looks like a player called Aquitanic appeared in that first clip...perhaps next time we play at the same time, I won't be on the enemy team 3 or 4 times in a row again. xD
Hahaha, yeah, hopefully not :P was good meeting you in battle though
IChase what do you think about focusing scharnhorst on secondaries? Changing concealment on manual secondaries, and give him additional module for secondaries?
Yup, secondaries work too, just depends on your individual playstyle
I think it is also good idea, mainly because you'll fight on a short/mid range
Is it a good idea to get the IFHE commander skill on the Scharn?
iChase, how do you feel German BBs will fitt in to the already wierd BB world? With this agile ships, isnt it a risk that people will only play German BB´s amd they loose out om balance?
I have a feeling German BBs are going to be quite brawl-happy ships, but we'll have to see
The Scharnhorst reminds me of the Alaska Class Large Cruisers, a ship I desperately wish would be made available.
Alaska's armor was only good against 8 inch heavy cruiser guns. This ship has 11 inch guns that will probably destroy the Alaska.
true but the Alasa would do the same with her 12 inch/50s which had better performance than the 14 inch/50s of the New Mexico class BBs.
Alaska-cruiser grade armor
Scharnhorst-battleship armor
Guys, guys, Im just sayin that the Scharnhorst reminded me of the Alaska and that I want the Alaska in the game. Im not trying to instigate an argument about stats, nor do I want to be in one :P
+Joseph Boccarossa :)
That game... That was a spanking in its truest form, seal clubbing's galore!
Chase thanks for another great Review,
You're welcome ^^
do you know that someone made a Know Your Ship episode starring Scharnhorst?
Yeah, that would be me too lol
they should really do the Alaska like this as well.
I hope this is the direction they take with battlecruisers :D it's a lot of fun and brings a new dynamic to the game
