    my 6 year old cat was diagnosed with GI large cell lymphoma last month. she has been on the most aggressive chemotherapy ever since. yesterday we got the news that the mass in the intestine has fully disappeared! the mass was around 7cm long and she was previously 5.5kg and dropped to 3kg within a few weeks. she is now 4kg and has had no symptoms, eating well, playing, running around. still on chemotherapy for 4 more months, but we hope our baby can stay with us for longer.
    please take your animals to the vets if they show symptoms, even if you think it may not be lymphoma, it can be. it is best to catch it sooner than later. praying for everyone who is at this video for the same reason i am. i wish you all and your furbabies the best ❤️❤️

    My cat of 12 years started vomiting and not eating all of his food Tue/ Wed of last week. Took him to the vet on Friday, he was diagnosed with high-grade Lymphoma Friday afternoon. He looked miserable after that. He was put to rest yesterday. The disease took him way too fast. I got to spent a couple of more days with him before he had to go. I thanked him for all the years of unconditional love he gave me and how he always kept me company. He passed peacefully in my bed, next to my pillow which is were he always slept, while i held him in my arms. He was my best friend.

      @Ana Paula Have you tried some remedies like coconut oil? Just giving a little a try might help since it's a natural anti fungal with miraculous things. Even turmeric has benefits. I would try a little just before you give up. You can find info online about it. And you can get these things at your local grocery store.

      Strongest animal bond I've ever had was with a cat. It's mutual respect with boundaries, and earning that respect and trust is truly something special...you get to see the surprisingly complex emotions cats have. And not in an anthropomorphic way so much as just a mutual understanding. You become part of the clowder, and they become part of the family. I lost my best friend to this disease...he was a feline, but just a genuinely awesome and super intelligent cat.

    It's good to know all the symptoms and how it's determined if it's high grade or low grade, but you know that not addressing your cats vomiting immediately could end up taking their life is a hard pill to swallow. I have to agree with the other commenter about veterinarians not taking it seriously. You as a veterinarian needs to take ownership and start encouraging your colleagues to take it as seriously as the owners do because when we take our time money and effort to bring a frightened and sick cat to the vet, we expect those symptoms to be taken seriously. And if you know the chronic vomiting is a sign of lymphoma than you ought to be doing the tests to rule it out instead of waiting until the last minute when there's really nothing that can be done!

Her pupils became very dilated and she became very weak and was stumbling around. I tried other remedies and different things to help her but it turned out to be just too much for her little body. By then she had lost half her body weight and she only started out at 5 lb. I'm still heartbroken when I think of her because she an extra special Kitty that I took in at the age of 13. "Pet owners make excuses for cats vomiting'. How about vets making excuses? All the vets I've gone to didn't seem too concerned with my cat. vomiting and they made the same excuses you say pet owners make. I suspect pet owners say what they say because they hear it from their vets. So it'd be nice if the members of your profession took a little responsibility. My cat has a serious condition because all the vets that saw her were dismissive of her symptoms and didn't do all the necessary tests in a timely manner. Also, all information here in your video is not unique. There are various online sources who say the same things. I thought you'd say something here that challenges the mainstream information, but you just duplicate what's already there.

    • @anonymousemoo5622
      @anonymousemoo5622 3 роки тому +11

      Agree. That was quite heartbreaking for me to hear too. I mentioned the vomitting to my vet and the poo being stinky (and not diarrhoea as we see in a "sick cat" but not good form) and they suggested it's IBS and I needed to try Ulsanic first, Animalax for the fur balls and change in food. My cat is 12 so that is a risk factor. I feel so upset for not knowing better, if I look at stats it is more often Lymphoma than IBS so why they all pushing IBS first? Rather say cancer first then I would have done the scan immediately, like for instance when you see a weird tumour on an animal's skin nd you go to the vet they immediately go aggressive and say cancer. They don't say ok let's try some meds then food etc.

    • @anonymousemoo5622
      @anonymousemoo5622 3 роки тому +2

      The fur balls - really messed with my thoughts on vomitting because that was his initial problem and then you read online many cats get them etc. Then one day it's every now and then food as well and you think ok but maybe his tummy is upset because of the fur balls.

His cancer started coming back late last year and I sadly had to put him to sleep on Tuesday. He was just too tired. Huge loss in weight even with a huge appetite, over active pooping outsode of the box. One of our cats is suspected of having this. He's a beautiful longhair who just turned 10 a few months ago. He's always been a bit of a slow and picky eater, taking his time and only eating certain foods. He began losing weight gradually over the course of this past month and a half. At first, we thought it was due to his picky habits, but no matter what food we gave him, new or his favorite, he would only take a few bites before going back to sleep. It got to the point where you could feel his spine and hip bones when you pet him. He was doing alright until this Monday, when he suddenly stopped eating completely and would hide and not move for hours. He also vomited once that day, a clear liquid. He looked to be in pain as he was in a constant crouched position, meowing for hours and not wanting anyone to pick him up. I took him to the vet yesterday (Tuesday) and was told he had a fever and was dehydrated. The vet said other than that everything seemed fine, as his vitals, blood, and organs came back normal, except for high lymphocytes and low protein. She then suggested we do an ultrasound since it may be something to do with the digestive tract. They quickly found a tangerine-sized mass in his intestines and enlarged lymph nodes. She said it is likely to be lymphoma, but we will not know until the results come back tomorrow. He was put on pain medication, a steroid, and an appetite stimulant. I am terrified, and I just hope that his prognosis turns out okay. Him and his brother have been with me for so long, I cannot imagine losing either of them so soon.
    Update: We got the diagnosis. Large-cell lymphoma. I am so devastated. We will be seeing an oncologist soon, but the vet said at most he only has one month left.

      In truth im in the same boat. 2 months ago my cat was happier than ever. Wanting to be held, and always eating, and living his normal life. The last month and a half he has been eating less, now nothing at all, was on steroids and an appetite stim and just would not eat period still, and all he does is sleep for the most part, and when he would walk he seems unbalanced. He had blood work and x ray done and was found to have a mass in his abdomen. the blood work was fine, but the mass had biopsy done, and in the end they found inflammation, but no cancer or anything and we spent $4000 yet no definitive answer. so they wanted to do surgery and remove the inflammation to discover if its cancer or not and that would be another $5000.. i swear vets are the worse and money grabbers.

    This video makes a lot of sense in hindsight and I could not recommend enough the advice of considering it abnormal if your cat vomits more than 1-2 times every month and get it examined by a vet.
    My 2-year baby cat Purrcella developed acute lymphoma and within a few days of the first sign, her condition deteriorated significantly to the extent that I had to put her down. It started out with a severe UTI, and later manifested as weight loss, and acute anemia by the time it was diagnosed, the disease was in a late stage and she was beyond the stage of being saved.
    She was completely normal for months, including her weight and activity, and the only thing I see in hindsight as a sign was vomiting every 1-2 weeks which I thought was her eating too fast as she often used to eat too fast. This was however the only sign and the vet had not seen it as significant enough as there was no other symptom. Unfortunately, in the late stages of lymphoma, she was vomiting very aggressively apart from other signs of organ failure like fever, UTI, and severe anemia. Her vomiting reflex during her last time was so strong that she used to discharge waste during vomiting.

    My little guy, Taro, was adopted bout 1.5 yrs ago from the pound. He was a measley 6 lbs cat who the pound had said was about 1 yr old. He would have a hard time keeping any food or water down, diarrhea, and lethargic. Yet he was vocal, attentive and so, so sweet. When I took him to the vet, he had abnormally high white blood cell count. Turns out, he was a senior kitty, at least 10+ yrs old and has cancer of the lymphocytes. 😞
    We did chemotherapy, tests, steroids, I took out loans... And now, chemo is not working and he is on palliative care. I now weigh the decision to euthanize or to wait until he can no longer take it. What is the right decision? Is it selfish of me to try my best to keep him alive? Or would it be better to let him pass comfortably? Sigh... He is an affectionate buddy who fills my days with his talkative meows. He loves it when I get chicken strips and give him pieces free of seasoning. So the thought of letting him pass never occured to me till now. Is it up to me to make that decision for him? Argh...

    I hope someone can give opinion. For how many years do you think a senior cat can live with intestinal Lymphoma (if that’s what they have ) after diarrhea starts, and no chemotherapy/just steroids? At age 14 1/2 my Chausie started having diarrhea…… the Vet said “IBS” because cats usually are allergic to chicken. He switched to Selective protein rabbit, monthly got depo-Medrol and B-12 injections $$$ for 3 years. Last year Got new doctor, and changed to prednisolone 1/2 tab and a chicken fiber response…….; He’s been loosing weight, turned 18 in May, prednisolone not working so it was increased, then he lost so much weight and lost appetite I thought he was gonna die. Gave fluids, bloodwork labs all”surprisingly normal” poop and urine cultures normal. After a day of not eating, I force fed a little organic Turkey baby food, his appetite slowly came back ate that for a few days, controlled watery diarrhea with Diagel, now he is eating the wilderness cat food morsels without Carrageenan and walking around looking in fridge like usual. No doctor Ever mentioned Intestinal Lymphoma can look like IBS or cause IBS. They just tell me that cancer can only be confirmed with Biopsy, but he’s too old for that. ……I’m waiting for a gut cleanse fecal transplant product to treat him as a last resort. ….. I suppose it can only really help if he just has IBS. So back to original question….. sigh. @@bettysmith7045 Thank you Betty. His symptoms started about a year ago with occasional vomiting of white foam, diaharrea, loss of appetite and hiding. Then he would feel better for a while. The vet thought he had IBS and changed his diet to sensitive stomach cat food. His weight was steady. I did not do an ultrasound, wish I did! About 2 weeks ago I noticed a decline that steadily got worse until 2 days ago. When I brought him into the vet, they found a large mass with ultrasound on his stomach. Bob was nine years old and I did not want to put him through any pain and suffering as the vet stated it would ultimately be fatal. I let him go peacefully and will keep his ashes. She keeps losing weight, even though she eats a lot. Now after being sick for so long, she's starting to just have diarrhea all over my house - like she has no control anymore. He’s been sick for a year, I clean up poop every day, but he seems happy even though very thin. I know there will come a day, probably soon, where he will stop eating, but i will cherish my moments with him. For people with multiple pets extreme treatment options (in this case it doesn’t seem to give them very much longer life) are just not an option. Our specialist vets in my town are cost prohibitive.

      Unfortunately routine blood test do not show inflammatory bowl disease or lymphoma of the colon. My cats routine labs were always normal but when I noticed weight loss 8 months from her last appt we knew something was wrong. She had to have X-rays , ultrasound , Ct and biopsy of colon to finally get a full diagnosis. Very. Very expensive. I spent thousands of dollars already and I have not even started the chemo that was recommended today. Oncology isn’t in until next wed bc of holidays so there will be more bills. I started prednisone today and she vomited all of it up all Uber the place about 20 min after I gave it to her. From what I’m reading prednisone and chemo is the way small cell lymphoma is treated but not sure what’s going to happen since she vomited all of the prednisone up. It’s just a mess. I’m worried sick about her but it’s a real struggle giving her liquid meds so that’s a fight , then she vomited all over the house bc cats can never just vomit in one spot then the cost of everything. It’s not fair.

    Thank you so much, Dr. Sue! When you mention, "thickened intestines", my understanding is that it can be either lymphoma or irritable bowel syndrome, is this correct?
    My cat was 'diagnosed' with lymphoma a few days ago by the emergency vet. She said she's 99% sure but she isn't an oncologist and said I would need a biopsy/see a specialist and that the other cause could be FLV (I think it was) but he's only 11 as of April 5th and she doesn't see it happen with cats his age, often.
    He has large lymph nodes, thickened intestines and fluid in his abdomen. He's been losing weight gradually for a year but all of a sudden it seemed he became 7 lbs. He had chronic diarrhea but no longer has that after switching his food and he hasn't been vomited recently either. His weight, being very picky with food and refusing to eat often, and lethargy are his current symptoms.
    I have an appt to see an actual oncologist, soon, but also don't want to just give up on him. I'm hoping that doctor will be accurate in whether radiation or chemo are an option. The first one said I should make arrangements to put him to sleep...I'm kind of horrified that she would even say that without even being an expert?

      If your cat is still alive, try to get a 100% diagnose. I never got mine despite seeing 7 vets. They only did guess work and all told me to put her down. In the end she had so much breathing problems that I couldn't stand looking at her suffering anymore. She was skin and bones but with a bloated chest. But despite that she tried to never give up. She went outside, had a fit body, always was interested and full of love and trust. Even when she got the injection, she tried to fight off the sleep and looked at me in devastation, why do I not help her, why am I just watching her crying. Never have I felt such a pain in my life. All I have are symptoms(breathing problems, a big mass in her chest on xray attached to her heart in the size of her heart, high white blood cells, swollen lymph nodes on her throat, but also: negative felv and fip test, no diarrhea or vomiting, getting better on and off with antibiotics and prednisolone but in the end stopped eating and was too sick for anaesthesia for more testing, I still should've tried since death means the end) and I can't stop thinking that I killed her without knowing what it was and if she could've got well again with the right treatment, even if just for a few months. She was not ready, neither was I, but I took away her life.

      It's been 2 weeks for me now and I still can't forgive myself. All symptoms she got fit to a bad case of pneumonia(she got treated for, but maybe not long enough), but also lymphoma, and I still can't stop thinking about whether I did all I could have done or not. Money doesn't matter to me, I would have paid anything if only at least one vet would have cared for her. But no one spent more than 5 minutes at her case, just seeing her breathe was enough to tell me to put her down immediately, the first time 3 months ago. But she got better. And then she got worse. Ups and Downs within a few days, going from perfect health to I can't let her suffer anymore. 3 days before she got worse again, she fought off the neighbor cat and had no issues at all, just to lay on the floor screaming one day later because she couldn't breathe. Was it a tumor? Was it just the worst immune reaction of a lymph node anyone ever saw on x-ray? Would she have gotten better again if I stayed strong and went to another vet? I will never know, and I could not get her obducted just for the sake of finding out. It wouldn't matter anyway. She's gone. I took her life away without being sure. Everyone told me I had to do it for her and that everything else would be selfish, but in her last minute, I knew that it wasn't what she wanted. She just wanted to get better again, like the other times it happened, and being able to fall asleep in my arms with a full belly. I would not have those regrets if she gave me the signals that she gave up and is ready, but she wasn't, and I should have seen and respected that.
