That was awesome. I keep telling my daughter Samantha that I knit and crochet faster listening to disco. Now I see my error. I should be playing the Flight of the Bumble Bee when stitching. And here I thought Dueling Banjos might help. Loved it!
The old Shetland Islander knitter could knit 3 stitches per second. They used a knitting belt to stabilise the right-hand needle and honed their technique to minimise all movements
@@sweetgeorgia Agreed! Those ladies had smoke coming off the tips of their needles!!! They were truly a wonder to watch. I'd love to know how many women kept that style and tradition of Shetland knitting, especially those delicious ethereal shawls, alive. I took up crochet as a child because I used to sit, mesmerized, as my Nanny (paternal Grandmother) did it. So I plopped down next to her one day and asked her to teach me how to do it. She didn't hesitate to drop what she was doing, grab an extra hook and some yarn and get me off and running. I taught myself how to knit in my early 20's. I'm now 47 and I ALWAYS feel her spirit with me whenever I'm doing anything that involves yarn. It's usually the love of family that keeps tradition alive. I know that teaching me to appreciate and love working with yarn was the best gift my Nanny ever gave me. It's as if she literally left me with a part of herself. ♥
There's a video in existence of one of them knitting and someone calculated their speed. I can't remember it now but it was extraordinary. Maybe 200 stitches a minute.
OMG....I SO agree with the irritating music comments by the ladies. If you played "Flight of the Bumblebee" during a knitting speed competition I was in, I would probably stab you with my needles. And I don't consider myself a violent person. But knitting fast when being watched is hard enough without that super intense music!
TY for your works.....very entertaining!! ((((( The chosen music reminded me of my piano trek through the classical path.....my kids would crawl on my back at times during my practice sessions......I would 'carry on' and think I could knit, too through anything; LOL!!
Love this! But I can't join any competition. The adrenaline is too much for me. Btw, I really love to learn Lisa's knitting style. Less movement and very fast
The lady in the middle is so fast, you can barely see her hands. Edit: I was talking about the lady with the yellow shirt. I commented this before the last group. Blew my mind when the lady with purple pants said this.
Yes, continental style is much faster because it is accomplished with much less hand motion. In my opinion it also produces a much more even and smooth fabric.
I just get this fast knitting how can you enjoy look at their faces no smiles there, humans race around too much i like to knit at a pace and enjoy what i knitting i dont call speeding is fun
My speed is not particularly fast, I enjoy every stitch, sit relaxed (not hunched over). But my projects are done sooner than the fast knitters because I knit back with my left hand and don't turn my work.
I can't remember if it was 50 or 100 or something like that... something where it was relatively easy to count and not too many times to flip back and forth...
This still makes me smile . There was something extra special in about VKL 13’. I remember people talking about the people they’d met way more than their purchases - for weeks after :) Hoping for another year like it this year ♥️
A camera view from above would have been cool … Off topic … the second group … woman 2nd from left - her friends or family should have suggested different clothing, or more flattering sitting style, maybe?
They are using 2 knitting needles, not one crochet hook. Do you really think the competitors, announcer, audience, and the title would call it knitting if it wasn't?
My Grandma (1900-1981) would have blown you away, she knitted Yorkshire ganseys while watching coronation street on telly, she was FAST. I miss her.
Same for me in 25 now and still knit and crochet well watching coronation Street learned at 4
I practiced knitting before I was born with my umbilical cord!
No wan cares
I agree, my gran didn’t even look just held good conversation while counting then suddenly a jumper emerged. I miss her too.
I love that this actually exists
I looked up competitive knitting, was not disappointed!
Woulda been nice to have overhead cameras that zoomed in on the hands.
I couldn't agree more with you on that
That was awesome. I keep telling my daughter Samantha that I knit and crochet faster listening to disco. Now I see my error. I should be playing the Flight of the Bumble Bee when stitching. And here I thought Dueling Banjos might help. Loved it!
The girl that won moved her hands the least. That's the technique.
Yep. Wonder how an experienced continental knitter would compete.
this is by far one of the most exciting things i have seen - weirdly i really like this
i'm entering next year - don't even try to stop me
Honestly I don’t know anything about knitting, but I kinda expected them to slap two sticks together and boom. A sweater.
lol. If only. :)
LOL!😃Too funny!
Blitz Aviation
Lol!!
me too hahaha
What's that spell the Weezleys use?
The mother of Ron Weezley cast to have the needles knit by magic.
All you need is the right wand & an incantation
The old Shetland Islander knitter could knit 3 stitches per second. They used a knitting belt to stabilise the right-hand needle and honed their technique to minimise all movements
So fast!! Yes, I think the ultimate way of becoming a faster knitter is to work on minimizing all movements.

i'd consider you a violent person
It's America. They're always loud. Urgh.
I could easily win the slowest knitter...
+hundimzug Ha, ha. You would have to beat me. "I" am the slowest knitter, sadly.
Chris Smith
lol No, no, I don't think so lol
+hundimzug We should have a contest. . . LOL. You are funny.
Chris Smith
OK But I am still sure you are bluffing ;)
+hundimzug Aww, it's okay. You'll get faster with practice! ^^
This was great! Those who participated looked as if they were having so much fun. No doubt, they do not speed knit when working on a project.
Fun fact: we all search for this 😂😂😂
I'm shocked that I could tell who was knitting the most -- the gal who won - moved her fingers/hands the least motions. Wow!
Ahhh, then there was Lily Chin! LOL Loved meeting her here in San Diego! SWATCH SWATCH SWATCH. Thanks, Lily.
TY for your works.....very entertaining!! ((((( The chosen music reminded me of my piano trek through the classical path.....my kids would crawl on my back at times during my practice sessions......I would 'carry on' and think I could knit, too through anything; LOL!!
I love knitting its fab to know its still going on and growing.
Pretty fast. But the old Shetland knitters could knit three times as fast: three stitches per second.
Sarah Johnson I watched a video about them. It was incredible to see them knitting that fast and walking around like it was nothing.
@@qltygrl3187 And they have the pattern in their heads!
Love this! But I can't join any competition. The adrenaline is too much for me. Btw, I really love to learn Lisa's knitting style. Less movement and very fast

I had no idea that this even existed. I certainly cannot knit half as fast as these gals. Wow
Damn! I wanted to see some variety in knitting styles! Like an irish cottage/scottish-style knitter!!! I do spy a flicker though. That's cool.
I feel pumped up.Where do I take the beginner course.
this belongs on ESPN
Knitting is Zen. That music was mind jarring. The winner got CROCHET hooks?? She's a knitter!
I knit similar to the one who did 120. So there might be hope for me yet !!
This gives my life meaning.
I was sure this DID NOT exist, so I searched it...........once again UA-cam plugs a hole in the universe.
The ultimate sport
Why am I watching this ? It’s 5 am 😂😂😂
Lady with skirt put your leg down! So ladies, pants, shorts, or longer skirts. Excited to see knitting competition.
Incredibly immodest and shamefully inappropriate.
nice job to thw winner, Lisa! !!!! tfs!!!
Is this theme music "dance of the bumblebee"?
It's the "Flight of the Bumblebees". The event organizers chose to run that music during the knitting competition.
The girl wearing purple pants wasn't even speed knitting!! Lol! She was soo sloww! !
But great competition
2 ladies on the end just wanted to joke around, the lady in the middle was just there for fun and the 2 ladies on the right were really into it.
I’m thinking they are continental knitting, since yarn is on their left?
Yes, indeed. They are all knitting continental in this competition.
Yes, continental style is much faster because it is accomplished with much less hand motion. In my opinion it also produces a much more even and smooth fabric.
Well in second part lady on left (silver boot and shawl) is knitting English?
Enable cc please.
It seems they all are continental knitters.. So English knitters like me shdnt even think about such competitions.. Lastly I found one more Knitter 😉
I just get this fast knitting how can you enjoy look at their faces no smiles there, humans race around too much i like to knit at a pace and enjoy what i knitting i dont call speeding is fun

So what is her technique?
How many stitches are casted on ?
I can't remember if it was 50 or 100 or something like that... something where it was relatively easy to count and not too many times to flip back and forth...
Thanks.
I watched the Maine 1st fastest knitter contest and they casted on 50 and knitted for 4 rows.
That would be a good way to do it too!
This still makes me smile . There was something extra special in about VKL 13’. I remember people talking about the people they’d met way more than their purchases - for weeks after :) Hoping for another year like it this year ♥️
No close up couldn't really see anything?????
I love the knitting but I hate the Flight of the Bumblebee (background music)
If you can knit it slowly, you can knit it quickly
Good job!
I was here.
I am going for a cup of tea and a lie down.
The Queens Needles Season 1 on Netflix 🤔😂😂
I just died
Yikes! That woman in the second round with a skirt on giving everyone an eyeful. 👀😳
I could do those stitches with my eyes closed
ARHhhHHhhHHHHH the MUSIC !!! bangs head on door repeatedly LOL
Lol, it's what they played during the competition... Flight of the Bumblebees... :)
Great music! 😀🐝🐝🐝😀
Is there drug testing?
One of these ladies needs to knit herself some bloomers.😳
I make 130 stiches in one minute
A camera view from above would have been cool …
Off topic … the second group … woman 2nd from left - her friends or family should have suggested different clothing, or more flattering sitting style, maybe?
How can you knit with your leg up like that lol
My aunt knits faster than one of them!
Come on!You need to pull it together! omg
I didn’t see what was the prize. The man speak to fast
Riveting
5,000 stitches? there is no way ms.showing her croth pants had that many
I think Vogue should have chosen women to oversee the competition, instead of men!!!!!!!!!!
Why shouldn't men knit? There is NO gender requirements for knitting and crochet
Not American style
Hahahah
Any eagles fans?
American knitting is slow.
Not what I would call exciting viewing.
I don’t understand the need to show off. Being the fastest knitter.
It's just an activity for fun
they are not fast knitters!
Actually no it’s the old people in SpongeBobSquarePants
they are very slow slower than a snail
this is late, but this is CROCHET!!! NOT KNITTING
Queen Shelley Hughes Not it's not. What are you talking about? They are Knitting in the round on circular needles.
It's definitely knitting. I do both knit and crochet.
They are using 2 knitting needles, not one crochet hook. Do you really think the competitors, announcer, audience, and the title would call it knitting if it wasn't?
They know what they are doing. Do you know what you are talking about?
Do you do either? All that’s on your channel is dieting.
It's not very sexy though.
I disagree! The lady in the black and white stripped top and red scarf on the right is hot!
Horrendous music!
Actually they all are pretty slow.
Yeah I was thinking the same. I am an occasional knitter, but I knit purl in that pace.
If you guys want to see some action, look up “Australian knitting competition 1971”; those ladies meant BUSINESS! 😵💫🧶
Actually they all are pretty slow.
